New World with Four Husbands -
Chapter 101: A betrayal of a friend
Chapter 101: A betrayal of a friend
"What is she doing here?"
Coco’s hand paused in the middle of the air as she was about to take a bite in her chocolate sandwich, her eyes shifting from the bread to the man who had just got off the staircase.
"Good afternoon, Alhai." Zaque greeted the third husband and placed the fourth chocolate sandwich on the place, "I invited her here."
The silver haired mediator narrowed his teal eyes towards Coco and frowned, "How long has she been here? Why did you invite her here without hearing the others’ thoughts about this?"
Coco decided to ignore them and took a bite on the chocolate filled bread, the sweetness spreading in her tongue which made her melt.
The chocolate spread that Zaque and Heiren tasted like nutella.
It was as if they were once workers for the factory and had memorized how to make the chocolate spread, replicating the exact edition of the delicious and sweet spread that makes Coco want to ask them to make her a whole jar for herself.
She is willing to buy all the ingredients and not care how much it will cost.
Coco was enjoying the sandwich and taking a small piece of it to give it to the garden fairy who looked like she was also melting from how delicious and sweet the chocolate spread was.
Even if she didn’t sing praises for the chocolate spread because it was made by the first and second husbands, the way she shook at every bite and closed her eyes to savor the taste was a big give away.
As the two ladies enjoy their chocolate sandwich, Zaque and Alhai are having a conversation.
"She was hurt yesterday." The red haired mediator stated as he picked up another slice of bread and spread the chocolate on it, "I decided to bake something for her as an apology. She had already told me that she won’t stay for dinner so don’t worry about it."
Alhai frowned. "I can’t believe you.. I thought we already agreed to this? She’s not welcome here unless she apologizes to us. Yet, you’re apologizing to her?"
Zaque’s body grew stiff as he froze, his eyes staring at the chocolate spread with a blank expression, "I have known her for three whole years and have been married to her longer than the three of you have."
Alhai felt a change in the air around them, making him shudder involuntarily.
"What are you trying to say?" Alhai questioned him, eyebrows furrowed as he took a step back, the back of his foot hitting the bottom of the stairs.
"What I’m trying to say is, the person in front of me right now is someone else and not the woman we had married." Zaque said, his voice monotone as he raised his gaze to look at Alhai, "Or, to say the least, she had changed."
Alhai’s jaw clenched tightly, his fists clenching at his sides as he felt anger coursed through him.
He could feel the weight of his supposedly friend’s betrayal, the hurt and disappointment he felt overtaking his ability to think rationally, he was struggling to keep it together, the feeling of betrayal strong.
His body was tense, his muscles coiled tightly with his shoulders stiff as he struggled to contain the anger and pain that threatened to spill over, ready to lash out.
Though, despite the words that caused such feelings to rise had been exchanged, there was also a sense of sadness in Alhai’s, the knowledge that the betrayal had come from someone he had considered a friend only adding to the pain.
"After all the things she had done to Heiren? To Quizen? To me? To you..? You still decided to trust her blindly again?" Alhai’s voice was void of emotion, but the shakiness of it couldn’t escape anyone’s ears.
Zaque pursed his lips, his eyes looking away from Alhai’s scrutinizing gaze.
"I’m not fully trusting her, but I’m telling you that she has changed. She’s not the same woman we had married. I understand that you’re mad at me for saying this, but I decided to take a risk and trust this person." Zaque said, his hand tightening on the bread knife.
"Ha." Alhai scoffed and shook his head, "The others will hear this and will express how much they are against it."
"Yes, and I know that they might hate me for being like this, too." Zaque placed the sandwich he had just made to the plate which was empty again because Coco had grabbed the last one, "But that’s okay, Al. You can take your time trusting her because I already took and had mine—"
"Oh! Thanks, Zaque!" Coco grinned widely towards the red haired mediator, unintentionally cutting off the conversation, "Man, this chocolate spread tasted like the one from mg world. It’s sweet and addicting."
Alhai and Zaque stopped themselves from speaking further and turned to Coco instead.
She looked happy while munching on the sandwich she was eating, her emerald irises gleaming with delight and satisfaction as she took another bite.
"Do you mind making me a whole jar of this chocolate spread? I’ll buy the ingredients if you don’t mind." She spoke with so much enthusiasm, almost like she was up in the clouds.
"Oh, and—" Coco cut herself off and took more bite, chewing the piece inside of her mouth before huffing, "Lala wasn’t saying anything, but she’s enjoying this, too."
Zaque shook his head as a small smile creeped to his lips. "I don’t mind, but I will have to ask Heiren about it."
"I see, I see.. Well, hopefully, he would accept the offer because I will pay you lots for making me one." Coco stated, sighing heavily as she shoved the last piece in her mouth.
Alhai felt his frown deepening.
Why does she look sincere with the words she just spouted? She hated those chocolate spreads that Heiren and Zaque made before.
Just what is she trying to do this time?
