Chapter 80: DOES THE MARQUIS NEED MY HELP TO WOO HIS WIFE?
Seeing that no one had noticed, Charlotte’s head whipped to the side to find the culprit.
Marquis George Oswalt.
George chuckled again.
The expression on Charlotte’s face returned to its passive gaze and she looked away. Hence, she failed to catch the way his eyes had dimmed in disappointment.
Marquis George had managed to catch his wife’s actions. He paused at the expression on her face. She looked especially cute when making that face.
He unknowingly chuckled when he noticed the blush rising on her face . It brought up feelings of nostalgia in him as he was reminded of the times before she started to have a passive expression on her face.
Then, she turned to him. He sighed inaudibly in disappointment when that passive gaze returned and she turned away.
He wondered if he should still go ahead with giving her his doughnut. It was delicious, but she wanted it. What he didn’t know was if she would take it. He was almost convinced she wouldn’t eat it. Maybe she would if he had not already taken a bite out of it.
Nevertheless, he did it. He picked up his doughnut and put it into her plate.
Charlotte felt the movement in front of her and looked down at her plate, only to see that a half eaten doughnut now sat innocently on her plate.
She turned to her husband inquisitively, but he only glanced at her and looked away, talking to the nobleman who was sitting beside him.
She didn’t want to eat this doughnut that the Marquis gave, but if the Queen saw the unfinished doughnut, she would think that it was hers and that she did not appreciate her goodwill of sharing her gift.
She obviously couldn’t tell the Queen that it was her husband who had put the doughnut into her plate and so he was the one not appreciating the Queen’s goodwill. She was caught between a rock and a hard place and it was all because of the man who actually dared to look innocent at the moment.
She discreetly turned to her husband again with a barely noticeable glare. Even she herself had no idea she was glaring at him. But the man pretended to not see her.
She turned to the doughnut in her plate and sighed, feeling conflicted. She then picked up the doughnut, and took a bite with a bit of apprehension. After that, all bit of hesitation vanished as the taste of the doughnut spread on her mouth.
In less than a second, the doughnut had taken all her attention and she forgot about the grudge she just had for her husband.
The Marquis who had been pretending to be concentrating on his conversation with the person beside him, witnessed this scene from the corner of his eyes and sighed in relief. His lips curled up unknowingly.
It wasn’t only the Marquis who noticed this scene.
Rowaine had also been paying attention to her subjects and happened to see what happened. Her sister in-law had told her about Marchioness Oswalt’s situation.
’Oh?’ Her eyes revealed a look of interest.
Another person who noticed this was Catherine. Alistair Anton, Avery Eldridge and Clarisse Kiran also witnessed this. They exchanged gazes and nodded knowingly.
Somewhere in the table, Viscount Ross Hemsworth, a handsome man with Ivory hair similar to that of Maxim and Claire Anton, and dark blue eyes, stared at the Marquis speechlessly. His hand which had just dropped a doughnut in Vasily’s plate paused.
Was the Marquis mirroring his actions? Did he need him to teach him how to woo his own wife?
He turned to Vasily who gave his a bashful smile, and chuckled. He didn’t have time to teach the Marquis how to woo his wife. He had his own wife to take care of.
Meanwhile...
At the children’s table.
When the children heard the Queen’s words, they were greatly interested. Aristia smiled subtly. The servant distributed the snack and after the king had taken the first bite, everyone followed suit.
She took a bite with relish as she listened to the children sing praises about the doughnut.
No one dared to ask for the recipe because it was something that had been given to the Queen as a gift. Asking for it would be equivalent to asking for the Queen’s gift.
After the doughnut in the form of an appetizer, the main feast began. There was nothing much being discussed between the children, so Aristia tried to listen to the Nobles’ discussions, mostly that of the women.
Even then, nothing interesting enough to hold her attention was being said. The noblewomen would occasionally gossip, talk about jewelry, or boast about jewelry and dresses.
[Typical.] Aristia sighed.
She focused on her food instead. Oh, she loved food. She loved food so much!
Her cousins kept putting food into her place, and she kept putting food into Alaric’s plate.
She was almost bored to death enduring the jealous gazes channeled at her, and thinking that there would be nothing worth holding her interest when suddenly, someone asked a question.
"Brother Zachary, you must be excited to attend the academy next year?" A pretty girl with reddish brown hair and hazel eyes asked. She was Priscilla Essylt and was seven years old.
She was pretty, but as she asked the question, she blinked exaggeratedly in a bid to look cute. It made her expression look a little unnatural.
"Yes, I am." Zachary Splane smiled.
"You have brother Landon to help you," Priscilla said.
Landon Splane, a dirty blond with dark green eyes nodded in agreement. He looked a little similar to a little boy Aristia had taught a lesson.
[He looks a little familiar. Ah, he’s the older brother of that brat, Zachary Splane. But the color of his hair and the shade of his eyes are different. I wonder if they have the same stinky attitude.] Aristia thought.
But she tilted her head at Priscilla’s words.
[The Academy?] She wondered, confused. She searched her memories to see if she could recall if she had missed something.
[The only information provided about this was when it was mentioned that Aristia attended the Academy. Not much was provided about it. Anyway, I can ask Viscountess Vasily when my lessons begin. What’s important now is that my plan to boost the restaurant worked.] She was truly satisfied.
"Are there anymore doughnuts remaining?" A girl asked the person beside her.
"I don’t think so." The other girl replied.
[That’s right. Want it. Desire it. So that when the time comes, you’ll be more than eager and willing to spend your money. Mwahahahahaha.] Aristia cackled evilly in her mind.
She even almost rubbed her palms together with an evil look in her eyes, but managed to stop herself in time. But she couldn’t manage to stop the wide smile that crept upon her face.
She had no idea that her smile actually looked creepy and that Zachary Splane just happened to witness the look on her face. He subconsciously shivered, but when he blinked, the expression he had seen on her face was no more, and her expression had returned to normal.
He rubbed his eyes, but her expression still remained the same. He looked around but no one seemed to have noticed. He lowered his eyes to his food. He wondered if his eyes were playing tricks on him again.
"Princesses, the palace is very beautiful." A girl said to the Princesses.
"As expected of the Royal palace." Other children praised.
The princesses knew what they wanted to achieve. They wanted them to invite them to the palace. Aristia smiled. She wouldn’t give them the chance.
"We are happy to hear that. It is the hardwork and effort of our ancestors." Serina said simply.
"Yes. The Great Kings of old," a child said.
"I would be very happy if I got a chance to visit the palace," another girl said dreamily.
Aristia almost laughed on seeing their efforts. [They really are trying very hard.]
The princesses kept silent and only smiled, making the situation a little awkward.
"I heard that a new building is being constructed here in the capital." A teenage girl said to ease the awkward air around the table.
Aristia’s ears perked up. Wasn’t that the restaurant? She looked at the person who had raised the subject.
It was a girl with cerulean hair and pink eyes. She was fifteen years old and was the younger sister of Viscountess Vasily Hemsworth, Irene Everett. Just like Vasily, she was also beautiful.
"That is true. I almost forgot." Leon Everett replied his older sister. He had the same cerulean hair color as Irene and their mother, but he had the same eye color as Vasily and their father, azure. He was eleven years old.
"Sister Irene and brother Leon don’t know because they have not been in the capital but were in the academy. This new building started being built six months ago. We don’t know what purpose it will serve yet." Priscilla said.
"I don’t know what aim the owner is trying to achieve by being so secretive." A scorn filled voice said.
