New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World -
Chapter 39: WHAT IF THEY DON’T?
Chapter 39: WHAT IF THEY DON’T?
"It is not the same thing! It is easier for you, even though you are also a princess because uncle is the Imperial Prince, and you are his daughter." Beatrix almost yelled. "But me, I am the daughter of the King." Her voice reduced by a notch.
Aristia was surprised by Beatrix’s outburst. It wasn’t only her, even Ivan, Serina and Alaric were too. Beatrix had always been the calm one among the sisters.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as she went to sit beside Beatrix, holding her hand in hers.
"You need to let them know, Bea. They are your parents and they love you. How will you know if they’ll agree if you don’t ask first? How will they know what you want if you don’t tell them?" She reasoned gently, not giving a shit if the situation appeared odd; a five year old comforting and advising a six year old.
But it didn’t matter.
[The novel explicitly stated that the children in nobility developed faster than others, but members of the royal family were blessed with higher intelligence and developed even faster mentally. Explains why Alaric most times speaks like a five year old.]
That was also part of the reason why Aristia’s way of speaking did not seem strange to those around her.
Beatrix seemed to seriously consider her words, so Aristia said to further convince her. "I’ll tell you what. How about you tell uncle and aunt. If they agree, then it’s a good thing."
"What if they don’t?" Beatrix was still uncertain.
"If they don’t, I will take you with me to our mansion, and you will train with me," she smiled.
Her answer made not only Beatrix, but Serina too, giggle.
"I don’t see what you all find so appealing in training but as your sister, I will support you both." Serina tucked her hair behind her ears and stroked the hair of her doll.
Even though she didn’t necessarily have that much of an interest in those sports, she would support her sisters.
"I will also support you." Ivan chimed in. "If mother and father don’t agree, I’ll tell them I don’t want to be King." He said jokingly.
His words made them all laugh.
[Sheesh, take it easy on the threats children.] Aristia held back a chuckle.
Alaric also added. "I will also support you, Trixie."
Beatrix smiled widely. Their encouragement fueled her confidence. Even if it was just words, just knowing that they were supporting her and trying to cheer her up made her feel much better than before.
She knew her parents loved her, but she wasn’t sure how they would react if she told them that particular interest. But now, she was going to try first.
After she thought of this and had calmed down, her actions earlier dawned on her and she turned to Aristia.
"I’m sorry for yelling at you, Tia." She apologized, feeling bad. Aristia was just trying to help her and she had said such words to her.
"Don’t worry," Aristia shrugged. "I’m not offended, really." She said to reassure her and make her feel less guilty.
[She’s just an upset kid.]
Beatrix sighed in relief, then said to all of them;
"I really appreciate you all trying to convince me. And if they don’t agree to let me take those classes, then Tia, I will have the servants pack my clothes and go live with you. Then, I can also join you to take those classes." Beatrix had determination in her eyes as she pumped her fists.
[Uhh... She’s joking right? She looks very serious. Who even gave her that idea? Oh... Yeah.] She paused. [They should agree, right? Well, if they don’t then I really don’t mind having a sister.]
Beatrix reminded her of one of her twin nieces, Mae. She was the introverted one between the two. She could talk to her parents easily, but she was kind of shy in some aspects, like expressing her feelings and talking about what she wanted. However, she was also the closest to Aristia.
Meanwhile, Beatrix was hoping that her parents would grant her request because truth be told, she really couldn’t act out her words and get the servants to pack her things and leave the palace for the mansion without their consent either.
The topic changed as Alaric inquired.
"Brother Ivan, can we go see your daemon now?" He asked again.
"Sure," Ivan closed his book, placed it on the couch, and got up. "Would you like to join us?" He asked his sisters.
"Yes." Aristia, Beatrix and Serina replied in unison.
"Let us go, then." He said, turning towards the door.
Aristia got up too, holding Alaric’s outstretched hand as they left the parlour of the Crown Prince’s part of the palace.
On their way out of the palace, they met the adults.
"Are you heading outside the palace?" Rowaine asked curiously upon seeing the direction they were headed.
"Mam..." Beatrix glanced at her, seeming to want to say something, but she hesitated and kept silent in the end.
Aristia held her hand with her other hand comfortingly, making Beatrix turn to her in surprise. She tried to say through her eyes that it was alright. Beatrix didn’t have to say it right now or even today. She could whenever she was ready.
She wasn’t sure if Beatrix understood what she was trying to convey, but thankfully, she seemed to because she nodded and stepped back.
"Yes, mother. Alaric wants to ride the horses," Ivan replied.
"Is that so? I hope you don’t mind if we join you?" Catherine asked rhetorically, glancing at each of the children.
"Not at all, aunt." Ivan shook his head with a small smile.
"We might as well use this opportunity to meet your daemon." Wilson said.
They headed to the stables together with the adults.
Even before they arrived, a beautiful black stallion strutted majestically up to them. Specifically, to Ivan.
Ivan chuckled and stroked its mane tenderly. "You sure are happy to see me, Shadowfax."
The Prince’s horse was called Shadowfax. He chose that name because of its colour that was just as black as the dark night, and could easily blend into the darkness. Even its eyes were black. The horse was regal and stood proudly.
The horse huffed, before it turned from Ivan to stare at the newcomers beside the familiar faces of his master’s family, already coming to the conclusion that they were related to his master.
"What a remarkable horse." Catherine stated, surprised at the larger than normal horse.
Ivan smiled proudly as he placed a hand on top of his daemon.
"Brother Ivan’s daemon is huge." Alaric said with awe, going towards the horse but stopping just a little distance away from it.
He glanced at Ivan, and when the latter nodded, he walked forward until he was just an inch away from the daemon. The height difference between them was very big.
[I’m talking very very big.] Aristia thought.
"And pretty," she added aloud, admiring the beautiful horse.
[I’ve never seen such a fine steed.]
She was probably the only one who would use such a term as ’pretty’ to describe such a scary looking horse.
Beatrix and Serina turned to stare at her dumbfoundedly. What was pretty? Were they looking at and talking about the same thing? They wondered in disbelief.
They were not the only ones who found her words absurd.
"I am not pretty, little girl," a voice huffed. They all froze and turned to see the owner of the voice glaring at Aristia. It was Ivan’s daemon.
