New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World -
Chapter 38: BEATRIX’S UNIQUE INTEREST
Chapter 38: BEATRIX’S UNIQUE INTEREST
"Only five years old and already thinking about the kingdom. You should think more about yourself and what you want. Leave the big matters to the adults, alright?"
Even though Fedor said that, he knew that she had helped them a great deal. He was amazed. She, a five year old girl, had easily provided a solution that would have put them, the men, rulers and adults, in a helpless situation trying to come up with a solution but failing.
"I understand, uncle Fedor," Aristia nodded to show she understood. She knew that he meant well. He only wanted her to think more about herself as she was a child and didn’t need to be burdened by worrisome matters.
[I already know what I want though—to make money. It’s that simple.]
Ivan, Beatrix and Serina watched the adults and Aristia as they conversed. They understood that there could be a famine caused by locusts and that the adults, thanks to Aristia, had found a solution. Even Alaric could understand.
They were both surprised and amazed. They had never heard of storehouses or graneries or anything similar at all.
After lunch, the men got together to discuss the measures to take against the famine and the way they would go about handling the famine if it were to occur, the women went to the garden to have a conversation, and the children were left alone.
"Brother Ivan, can we ride the horses now?" Alaric asked hopefully, looking up at Ivan.
"Not now, Allie. We just had lunch. It wouldn’t be good to ride a horse," Liam reasoned.
"Okay. Later then," Alaric replied chirpily, not in the least bit discouraged.
The imperial palace was very large. In the palace, there were different wings. There also existed wings in the palace referred to as cold palaces, for unfavored concubines.
The irony though was that Amberale’s kings rarely ever had concubines, only sticking to one wife, regardless of their feelings and relationships with their wives. So the existence of a part of the palace called Cold Palace was funny to Aristia.
The king lived in the main wing of the palace with his wife, and their children stayed in their own wing.
They had moved to the Crown Prince’s wing after lunch. His wing of the palace mostly had dark tones, with grey being the major colour.
In fact, grey was the major colour of the whole palace! It was marvelous it didn’t make the palace look dark and gloomy.
Now, they were hanging around in the parlor with nothing to do.
Ivan was reading a book, Beatrix and Serina were playing with similar looking dolls, one with grey hair and grey eyes and the other with grey hair and white eyes.
They were similar to the doll Aristia had seen in her room with grey hair and purple eyes. A replica of original Aristia.
Her eyebrows twitched slightly as she remember that Alaric too had one male doll with grey hair and black eyes, dressed in royal clothes and holding a cloth sword, meaning that Ivan probably had one with his features.
[Family dolls, huh?] She thought speechlessly.
"Tia, could you complete the story you were telling me last time?" Alaric requested.
"Story?" Serina asked with curiosity.
"Tia tells me stories before we go to bed. They are very interesting and help me fall asleep." Alalric explained with excitement.
"Then tell us a story Tia. But... I do not wish to fall asleep, though." Serina placed her doll on her lap and turned to Aristia.
"A story can be told even in the daytime, when you do not wish to sleep."Aristia informed. "I was telling Al a story about a girl who walked into the forest and found a cottage deep in the woods. It starts like this," She paused, trying to create momentum, before she continued,
"Once upon a time there were three bears, who lived together in a house of their own in a wood. One of them was a little, small wee bear, one was a middle-sized bear, and the other was a great, huge bear." She used her hands to demonstrate the sizes and increased and reduced the pitch of her voice when she thought necessary.
"One day, after they had made porridge for their breakfast, they walked out into the wood while the porridge was cooling. And while they were walking, a little girl came into the house. This little girl had golden curls that tumbled down her back to her waist, and everyone called her by Goldilocks. So, Goldilocks went inside. She opened the door and stepped into the house. She saw three bowls of porridge on the table; one of big size, another of medium size and the last of small size. She tasted the first bowl of porridge and exclaimed that it was too hot, tasted the second and complained that it was too cold, then she tasted the third one and said that it was just right..." as she told the story, Ivan had stopped reading his book and they all paid rapt attention.
After all, they had never heard such a story before.
After she had ended the story, Beatrix praised, "That was a good story Tia, but I have never heard of it. Did you come up with that?" She asked. She was expecting it, since Aristia had also come up with a solution for the famine.
"Uh... yes, I did. It is called a fairytale." Aristia had no choice but to claim credit. She couldn’t just say;
’Oh no. it’s just a story from the world I lived in before being shoved into this book world’ with a smile right? No, she couldn’t.
"I like the sword training classes." She mentioned out of the blue, changing the topic.
Beatrix perked up. "Sometimes we watch Ivan train. I think it is interesting."
"Bea, do you like the classes Ivan is taking? Would you like to take them too?" Aristia asked.
"I... No, I just—" Beatrix waved her hands frantically, but was interrupted.
"Do not listen to her. She has always been interested in those classes." Serina cut her off with a revelation, waving her hands dismissively to Beatrix words.
"Serina...!" Beatrix called, horrified, but Ivan also cut in.
"That is true. It has been a secret until now. Well, it still is a secret since Mother and Father don’t know about it. No one knows about it except for us." Ivan added, picking his book back up.
Beatrix was left speechless at being exposed.
"We have tried to convince her to tell Mama and Papa, but she does not listen." Serina said to Aristia who nodded in understanding.
She had just confirmed something; Beatrix liked the classes, but because she was afraid of the reaction of her parents and the society they were in, she didn’t dare to say it.
[Ah. I took what I had for granted. Well, who wouldn’t? That world’s structure was the normal way for everyone there. No one would guess that they’d be transported to another world, and thus begin to cherish the rights and freedom available.]
It was way different from her world where people were free to study what they wanted. Well, to some extent.
[Who’s being told (expected, pressured) to be a doctor, say aye!]
She looked at Beatrix who actually looked a little nervous. "Bea, why don’t you tell Uncle and Aunty?"
"They will not consent to it. Those classes are not meant for us to take." Beatrix shook her head.
"They didn’t say that when I informed them that I took up those classes, did they? No. They didn’t." Aristia reminded her.
"It is not the same thing!"
