Chapter 146: DIDN’T WANT HIM TO GO HUNGRY
Days Later.
"I’ll wear this to the tea party. What do you think, Tia?" Catherine asked Aristia.
They were going to attend a tea party hosted by Marchioness Kiran. Catherine was asking her for advice on which dress to wear for the tea party.
Aristia nodded, looking at the light green dress Catherine was talking about. "It’s very good." It complemented her dark hair.
Catherine turned to the maids and nodded at them. The maids then proceeded to dress her up and prepare her for the tea party while Aristia left the room.
Aristia herself was dressed in a sea blue dress with short sleeves. It was summer and the sun had begun its work.
After Catherine was done dressing up, Aristia held her fan and entered the carriage with Catherine and Alaric.
"To the Kiran Mansion, Coachman," Catherine knocked on the carriage partition.
"Yes, Madam," the coachman replied. The carriage started to move, heading to the Kiran Mansion.
Inside, Aristia sat beside her mother, with Alaric perched between them.
The carriage rode steadily, moving in the direction of the Kiran Mansion.
As they approached the imposing gates of the Kiran Mansion, the guards quickly opened the gates and the carriage entered.
The carriage came to a halt in front of the mansion, and footmen stepped forward to assist them.
Aristia descended first since she was sitting beside the door. Her sea blue dress shimmered in the afternoon sunlight, complementing her grey hair and purple eyes.
Catherine followed next, her hand gently guiding Alaric down to the ground.
As soon as she released his hand, Alaric went around her to Aristia and held her hand, the both of them looking around.
It wasn’t their first time in the Kiran Mansion as Catherine usually took them for tea parties there, well, the original Aristia, and Aristia had just been to the Kiran Mansion a few months ago.
The Kiran Mansion’s garden could be seen as soon as one entered the gate. It was colourful and exuded a pleasant fragrance.
A servant that looked to have been waiting for them bowed immediately she approached them.
"Greetings, Your Imperial Highness, Princess, Prince. Please, this way."
She led them to the grand hall of the mansion.
Aristia could hear the voices of noblewomen and children floating through the air and mingling with the melodies of a distant harp playing softly in the background as they approached the Hall.
The Kiran Mansion’s grand hall was adorned with delicate lace curtains that billowed gently in the soft breeze, ushering in the pleasant summer afternoon.
Round tables draped with white cloths were arranged neatly around the room, each of them adorned with petite vases of freshly picked flowers.
The aroma of freshly brewed tea and the faint smell of pastries lingered in the air, coupled with the perfumes of the different ladies present.
Each table had silver tea sets, delicate porcelain cups, and empty plates.
Marchioness Kiran greeted them warmly when she saw that they had arrived.
Her smile was radiant as she welcomed them. "Princess Catherine, Princess Aristia, and Prince Alaric, what a pleasure it is to have you join us," she exclaimed with genuine warmth, her eyes twinkling at her friend.
Catherine returned the greeting graciously and joined the conversation with Clarisse Kiran, her other friends, and other noblewomen present.
"Tia, look!" Alaric tugged at her sleeve, drawing her attention. He pointed excitedly towards a table filled with a towering display of sweet food. "Can we have cakes?"
Aristia chuckled evilly, looking in the distance for a few seconds before looking back at Alaric. "Of course, Al. Let’s go and pick some delicious treats," she replied, leading him towards the tempting sweets and pastries.
That was actually the first thing that had caught her attention as soon as she entered the hall, and she was happy that Alaric was the same too.
It made things easier for her.
[I’m just looking out for my younger brother. He’s hungry and as his older sister, I have to make sure he’s fed. How sad would he be if he was left hungry? He’d probably be very grumpy!] She defended.
They took plates and together, they carefully selected pastries and cakes before returning to Catherine’s side, and the three of them moved to sit at a table with a clear view of the gardens.
Aristia sat on the chair beside Alaric while Catherine sat opposite them.
Catherine looked on with affection as she poured fragrant tea into cups decorated with intricate floral patterns. Aristia took a bite of cake, while Alaric nibbled on a biscuit.
[Is it bad that we started eating the moment we arrived?] That thought passed through her mind as she ate.
"Oh, Tia, try these biscuits. Allie seems to like it," Catherine encouraged.
Somehow, she could tell what Aristia was thinking even though Aristia’s expression was bland.
[I guess I’ve got my answer.] Aristia thought, nodding at Catherine. All the non-existent guilt she didn’t feel vanished without a trace.
"Thanks, mama." She smiled widely, before taking a biscuit and nibbling on it.
Alaric and Catherine watched her silently as she ate unhurriedly, and like they expected, Aristia couldn’t hold on any longer.
She popped the biscuit into her mouth, not able to keep up with her pretense of eating elegantly and nibbling on the biscuit like a chipmunk.
Some children came over to their table, looking for Alaric.
Aristia quietly observed the adults conversing in hushed tones about current affairs and upcoming social events while Alaric was engrossed in a discussion with other young boys around his age and older, since his intelligence was on par with most of them.
From the bit Aristia could hear from not listening, he was telling them about adventures of his favorite storybook heroes.
The boys were listening with interest and amazement, so were the other children surrounding them. They hadn’t ever heard those stories and were extremely curious about where he got the books. Alaric gave them the same answer he had given those in the North.
Aristia took another sip of tea, before turning her attention back to Alaric, who was still proudly telling stories to the other children.
Catherine soon left the table to mingle with the other noblewomen, specifically, her close friends, the madams of the three noble families; Anton, Eldridge and Kiran.
Aristia sighted Lauren and Lilith on the other side of the hall, just at the same time as they saw her. A smile appeared on her face.
She turned to Alaric who was still telling the other children stories, then she stood up.
"I’m going to see Laura and Lily." She told him. She watched Alaric nod before she left the table.
She was moving toward them just as they were coming toward her.
"Laura, Lily." She called out as she approached them.
"Tia." They both smiled brightly.
"You came, princess Tia," Aristia saw Nova Kiran coming from behind the two with her little brother Juno. Paige Kiran was in talking to another girl a distance away.
Aristia observed that the group of friends were all present for Marchioness Kiran’s tea party, even their children. But she didn’t see Alicia Eldridge even though her mother was present.
[Why is Alicia absent today?] She thought, looking around to make sure. If Alicia was present, then she would be with Lauren and Lilith.
Marchioness Charlotte Oswalt wasn’t here too and neither was Wade, even though she had recently been accepted into the ladies’ circle of friends.
[I wonder how Charlotte is doing. Wade too.]
"What about Alicia?" She decided to ask the burning question, her gaze alternating between Lauren and Nova who were Alicia’s cousins.
"She isn’t feeling well," Nova replied. She had asked her aunt, Alicia’s mother, the reason why Alicia wasn’t present and that was what Marchioness Eldridge had told her.
"I see." Aristia nodded in understanding.
"Let’s go to the other side," Lauren suggested. There was a lot of adults in the part of the hall they were standing in.
They moved to the other side. Even then, Aristia could still make out some of the women’s conversation because of her possession of aura. She was still getting used to the feeling of people’s voices being a bit magnified.
"Lily, you can go to Al if you like. He’s telling stories from his storybook." Aristia leaned down and told Lilith. She would be more interested in those stories. Then, she leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "I’ll make you yours soon. I’ve not forgotten."
Lilith’s eyes lit up with excitement, "Really?" She left in the direction of Alaric’s table when Aristia nodded, Juno following after her.
Aristia felt bad. Lilith enjoyed listening to those fairytales a lot. It slipped her mind to make another copy for her.
"What about Liam?" She turned to her cousin and asked with knitted brows. She hadn’t seen Liam either.
"He decided to stay back at the mansion and study." Lauren shrugged.
Aristia only nodded.
At that moment, some girls approached them.
