Chapter 142: UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE
Chapter 142: UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE
"T-the princess manifested aura!" Captain Hugh lowered his voice when he uttered the second part of his sentence. However, it still came out strongly.
"W-what? Impossible!" Catherine covered her mouth in disbelief, but from her husband’s and the Captain’s reactions, she could tell it wasn’t a joke.
Her eyes moved to Aristia, then to her husband, then to the captain and back to Aristia.
"Who has aura?" Aristia’s expression was a little dumb. Her parents could have laughed at the novel expression if not for the seriousness of the situation.
Alaric’s mouth was just wide open. If Aristia was not shocked out of her mind, she would have laughed at the expression on his face.
Owen had gotten up from the bench when he had seen Wilson and Catherine rushing over. Now that he witnessed this and heard the captain’s question, his eyes narrowed. He had confirmed his speculation.
Back in the restaurant when Aristia was warning Dahlia about her office, he had noticed something that resembled aura but it had been so faint that he hadn’t realized what it was.
The training obviously couldn’t continue after the shocking discovery so they left the training ground and headed to the parlor to discuss the matter.
"How is it that your daughter possesses aura, Wilson?" Captain Hugh Lancelot asked immediately his backside touched the seat, not even wasting a second more.
"That, I do not know. This is the first time this has happened." Wilson replied, shaking his head and looking lost in thought.
Neither of them knew how it was possible. They were all trying to make sense of the situation.
[So I have aura? How the hell is that possible!] Aristia was just short of screaming out the questions.
From what she knew, girls did not possess aura. So how was it that she suddenly did? There was also no mention of such a thing in the book.
"Why do I have aura?" She asked aloud, her gaze switching between Wilson and Hugh. She was hoping to find answers, but judging from the look in everyone’s faces, they were equally confused and astounded.
[Looks like I might not get much answers about this today. If I get any answers at all.]
She turned to Wilson when he started to speak,
"Keep this a secret, Hugh." Wilson quickly regained his composure.
None of them would be able to get an answer by just sitting there and asking each other questions when they were all equally clueless.
"You have my word." Captain Hugh nodded solemnly.
They all knew that it wouldn’t be good if anyone else found out about it.
Captain Hugh soon left because Wilson had decided to cancel the training for that day until he figured out what was wrong. Whenever his eyes met Aristia’s, he stared at her as if she was an enigma.
The family had breakfast together but no one brought up the incident. Instead, breakfast was quiet with a strange air hanging in the room.
Owen kept shooting glances at Aristia while he ate. In fact, they all did.
It made Aristia feel a bit uncomfortable.
Aristia had history class next. Viscountess Vasily had returned to the capital with her husband the day before.
She would continue tutoring the noble children under her tutelage until she wouldn’t be able to due to the pregnancy.
[I find it funny how I’m just going to class as if nothing happened this morning.]
Viscountess Vasily was being served tea and snacks when she arrived. Aristia finally understood why Vasily received the treatment she received when none of the other tutors were.
[Because she’s Mama’s cousin’s wife.]
The maid bowed and left, closing the door behind her.
Aristia stared at Vasily. Her baby bump was faintly visible as she had entered the fourth month of pregnancy. Vasily took a sip of her tea and smiled at Aristia.
"Would you like a cup of tea?" She offered to pour her some tea.
"Yes, please." Aristia nodded.
[I might need it after what happened earlier.]
Vasily poured the tea for her. It was a refreshing cup of rose tea. Aristia relaxed as soon as it washed down her throat.
"Thank you, Visc— aunt Vasily." She placed down her teacup.
Vasily’s smile widened before she asked. "Do you remember where we stopped in our lesson?"
Aristia nodded, "Yes. You said we’d discuss the cultures and traditions in each part of Amberale and the natural resources found in them."
"That’s correct," Vasily nodded. "The different parts of Amberale— north, south, east and west— possess distinct resources, cultures and traditions." She began her detailed explanation.
Vasily explained that the eastern part of Amberale was rich in natural resources and wildlife. Because of the presence of large forests, it was a source of timber, wildlife for hunting, and various herbs, plants, roots for medicinal and other purposes. It provided a natural habitat for wildlife important for hunting and gathering.
Most of the medicine in the kingdom was produced in the East.
The East was also home to revered scholars and wise sages. Eastern lands were religious and believed in mystical practices, ancient rituals, and arcane knowledge. They believed that the dense forests were inhabited by those attuned to nature, such as woodsmen and druids.
They also believed in forest spirits and deities; the dense forests of the East were believed to be inhabited by a myriad of spirits and deities. These beings were revered as guardians of the forest and its inhabitants.
The eastern cultures abounded with a lot of myths, legends, and folklore. Those stories often featured heroic figures, shape-shifting beings, and magical creatures.
Artistic craftsmanship was also popular in the East, with skilled craftsmen creating intricate wood carvings, woven textiles, pottery, and jewelry inspired by nature’s beauty. The common easterners were mostly hunters, gatherers and farmers as a regional occupation.
Vasily moved on to the South.
The south had access to the ocean, and primarily benefited from maritime activities. It offered access to trade routes, fishing activities and coastal trade.
Because fishing was very common, it provided a steady supply of seafood for local consumption and trade. Additionally, the southern coastline served as hubs for trade, bustling markets, and economic prosperity since it could support port cities and trading hubs— encouraging commerce, shipbuilding, and naval activities. It had bustling ports and shipyards.
The southern region had a more temperate climate conducive to agriculture as it had typically warmer climates with fertile lands for agriculture and farming.
Another noteworthy factor was that southern cultures also accepted and was filled with cultural diversity due to trade routes and interactions; the southern cities were filled with various cultures and traditions since it was close to the sea where travelers from different lands followed when traveling to different kingdoms.
Because of that, there were different tales and beliefs about adventurous spirits, explorers, and tales of distant lands. The southerners also valued freedom, independence, and the spirit of exploration.
The rich folklore of the South included tales of merfolk, sea monsters, and legendary sea captains, stories of bravery, exploration, and encounters with mythical creatures. They also believed in sea deities and spirits.
Craftsmen in the South specialized in crafting maritime tools, nets, ropes, and sails. The common southern inhabitants were mostly skilled sailors and fishermen, relying on the ocean for sustenance and trade. Besides fishing, the people of the South harvested other sea resources such as seaweed, shellfish, and salt.
The North was rich in mineral resources such as iron, copper, and even precious metals like gold and silver. It also provided a natural barrier and defense against potential invaders from the north.
It was cold and harsh due to its colder climates, rugged terrain, and harsh winters.
It possessed cold dense forests, icy tundras, and mountainous landscapes that they believed may be inhabited by creatures or beings of myth and legend.
Northern cultures valued traditions and a strong sense of honor. That was also why most in the nobility preferred to be straightforward instead of the roundabout ways of the people in the capital.
Craftsmen in the North specialized in crafting items such as fur-lined clothing, intricate wood carvings, leather goods, and metalwork.
Northern folktales was rich with tales of mountain spirits, legendary beasts, mythical creatures, and heroic figures. They also talked about the spirits believed to inhabit the mountains, forests, and rivers.
"The West of Amberale is border—"
*Knock* *Knock*
Vasily stopped at the interruption. Her gaze rested on the door.
"You may enter."
"Forgive me for the interruption, Princess, Lady." A maid entered with a tray and bowed in greeting. "Madam has asked me to serve the princess and the lady with snacks."
"How kind of Her Highness to do so. Put the tray on the table."
The maid bowed and headed for the table in between Aristia and Vasily, then she placed the tray on the table. She refilled their teacups that were now empty, bowed and left.
After she left, Vasily continued her explanation.
