Chapter 122: MATERNAL FAMILY: GENERATIONS UNITED

"Tia, my dear. How have you been? It’s been a while since I saw you. And Allie, you’re growing so handsome. Oh my, I can only imagine how the ladies—" The old lady of the Hemsworth Viscounty was interrupted.

"Roxy, let’s allow them to come inside. They are probably tired from the journey." Her husband, Zender Hemsworth, quickly said to save his great grandson from embarrassment. He had Ivory colored hair, just like Maxim, and orange eyes.

"Grandmother, Grandfather." Catherine greeted the couple. She then turned to the former Viscount, the father of Ross Hemsworth and her mother’s brother.

"Uncle," then, she turned to his wife, Rulia Hemsworth. She had copper brown hair and blue eyes. "Aunt."

"Welcome, Cath." The couple smiled.

"Alistair, when did you arrive?" Catherine asked the Duchess.

"We arrived just a few hours ago." Alistair smiled at her friend and sister in-law.

"We can’t keep standing here, let us head inside now." Rulia said, leading them inside the house.

The families headed inside the mansion. It was only Aristia and Viscountess Vasily Hemsworth outside.

"So I guess I will call you aunt then, now we’re not here as teacher and pupil." Aristia smiled as the others walked inside while they still stood outside.

"It seems so." Vasily replied, looking down at her and returning the smile.

Aristia actually had no idea that she was related to Vasily. She only found out a few days ago when she was first informed that they would be leaving the capital and heading to the Hemsworth Fief to celebrate the anniversary of the old Hemsworth Master and Madam.

Back then, Aristia had wondered why they were required to go, until she found out that they were her maternal family.

[I can’t remember if that was mentioned in the book. I guess it’s possible that something like that was mentioned.] She had thought.

Her great grandparents, Zender and Roxanne Hemsworth, had two children, her granduncle and grandmother; Carter, the firstborn and only son, and Claire, the second child and only daughter. Carter got married to Rulia and they had a child, Ross, her uncle.

Claire, on the other hand, got married to Edgar Anton and gave birth to three children; Maxim, her uncle, the firstborn and only son, Catherine, her mother, the second child and first daughter, and Evelyn, her aunt, the last child and second daughter.

Aristia was surprised to find out that Catherine and Evelyn were twins. But Evelyn was no longer with them. She hadn’t been for a very long time, but that was a story for another time.

Maxim got married to Alistair and had three children; Liam, the firstborn and only son, Lauren, the second child and first daughter, and Lilith, the youngest child and second daughter.

Catherine got married to Wilson and gave birth to two children; Aristia, the firstborn and first daughter, and Alaric, the second child and first son.

Ross Hemsworth was her mother’s cousin. He was younger than Maxim and older than Catherine. He married Vasily but they had no children yet.

The old Master and Madam of the Hemsworth family were celebrating their anniversary with their large family the way they always did every year.

"Let us also head in." Vasily took her hand after some thought and they walked into the mansion.

"... join us for dinner. The children must be hungry." They heard Roxanne Hemsworth say.

"Yes, grandmother." Catherine walked forward and linked hands with her. Alistair did the same on the other side of Roxanne as they headed to the dining room.

The servants had laid a spread of a variety of food on the long dining table. It looked like a feast was going on.

The table was long enough to contain twenty people. It was used for feasts and gatherings where there were a large number of people.

"Do you still cook, Rin?" Great grandma Roxanne asked as Catherine pulled back the chair behind her for her to sit. "I miss the food you make."

"Yes, grandmother," Catherine nodded. Then, sat down on her own seat that Wilson pulled back for her. She smiled at him and turned back to Roxanne and added, "Tia also cooks."

"She does?" Granduncle Carter raised his eyebrows, turning towards his niece.

"Yes, the food she makes is very delicious." Lauren added. She had eaten food made by Aristia during their visits to the palace around the time of the Kingdom’s anniversary banquet.

"At such a young age?" Rulia stared at her grandniece in surprise.

Aristia looked up from the food. Why were they talking about this? It was time to eat, not to chatter about who could cook and who couldn’t. Would it be disrespectful if she just started eating?

She held back a sigh and looked up. She put on a bright smile, looking somewhat shy. "I learnt from Mama."

"It was almost like she knew it naturally. She saw some books that talked about cuisines of other kingdoms and decided to make some dishes. They were absolutely delicious." Catherine explained.

"That is quite impressive." Great grandpa Zender said thoughtfully.

"I wonder if I can get a chance to taste food made by Tia." Great grandmother Roxanne said.

It was obvious she didn’t quite believe their words. It was understandable because who would believe that a five year old could make such delicious food?

The people sitting at the table who knew better all kept silent. There was no need; great grandmother Roxanne would understand when she found out.

The dining table wasn’t at all quiet. It was very lovely as conversation flowed from each member of the family.

"Haha, I remember that sister in-law made you wait three years before she agreed to join you in conjugal ties. Am I right, cousin?" Maxim asked, recalling the past with a slight smirk.

Aristia’s ears perked up to listen to what her uncle was talking about.

[Conjugal ties? Isn’t that like marital ties or something?]

Maxim was speaking to Ross Hemsworth. He was teasing the latter. Ross only glared at him while the other adults chuckled.

"Did you have to follow mother’s footsteps?" He grumbled to Vasily. Then he looked at Maxim, "I suppose it is quite a good thing, isn’t it?" He asked and Vasily paused.

"Yes? I suppose so..." Maxim replied, unsure. His smirk fell and he now had a guarded expression on his face as he waited for what Ross was about to say.

"Since it is such a good thing, perhaps sister in-law would have loved to do so?" Ross asked slyly, now the one wearing a smirk on his face.

Maxim froze and his expression changed when Alistair smiled mischievously.

"I suppose I should have done so since my lord wishes it." Alistair said, and Catherine voiced her approval.

Ross smirked at Maxim as Wilson glared at him. Looks what he had caused. The husbands forgot in that moment that they were already married to their respective wives and so would not have to wait for a number of years to get married since time couldn’t be reversed.

[Are noble families in the medieval times this comical?] That was the thought running through Aristia’s mind. She was amused at the situation.

Vasily chuckled when she understood what her husband meant, and laughed even more when she saw Maxim’s predicament.

Ross and Vasily were betrothed when she was fourteen years old and he, nineteen. She hadn’t debuted into society as a lady then. They were supposed to marry when she was sixteen years old but Vasily vehemently refused. She insisted that she would only marry when she turned nineteen.

The reason was because she admired Rulia Hemsworth, Ross’s mother, who had gotten married at the age of nineteen.

In noble society, the females got married at sixteen and could also get married at nineteen, but it wasn’t common as it was considered late. Vasily received taunts and disapproval because of her decision, but she ignored them all. No one could understand what she wanted to imitate in Rulia’s action.

Because of Vasily’s decision, Ross had to wait for three years before they could get married. He had always liked her and couldn’t wait to marry her when she came of age, only to find out that he had to wait three extra years.

[Way to go grandaunt and aunt Vasily! Although quite early, at least they passed the legal age of adulthood back on Earth.] Aristia voiced her approval in her mind. She couldn’t imagine a sixteen year old Vasily getting married to a twenty one year old Ross.

[That’s underage, thank you very much!] But she soon realized that that was the case with her parents, and every other couple in nobility, well most of them.

[Like I would let that happen to me.] She rolled her eyes secretly while staring at her food, and scoffed as inaudibly as she could. But she still managed to draw the attention of the men present as their possession of aura and daemons enabled them to have more sensitive hearing than others.

However, she was so quiet that they thought she had coughed.

They paused their conversation and looked at her with worry. "Are you alright, Tia? Could the cold be getting to you?" Rulia asked.

"Have some water," Liam pushed her glass of water toward her.

"Mm, I’m fine." She nodded in reply to their question, accepted the glass of water and thanked Liam, "Thank you, brother Liam," then she took a sip of water, going with the story they had formed in their heads.
