Chapter 120: GRATEFUL TO THE PRINCESS
Chapter 120: GRATEFUL TO THE PRINCESS
"I’ll have tea with her highness after our lessons." Vasily said.
[Uhh... I don’t think that will be possible.] Aristia thought.
When she was leaving her parents’ room after trying out the clothes, she had noticed Wilson’s impatience.
He had obviously been waiting for her and Alaric to leave so that he could get ’busy’ with his wife. She just didn’t know how long they would be busy.
After her classes that day, Aristia and her family left the mansion towards the evening, heading to the royal palace.
When they arrived at the palace, they headed straight in.
"Tia, Allie!"
Ivan had just been entering the palace and saw them.
He went towards them, greeting Wilson and Catherine. "Good evening uncle, aunt."
"Ivan, how are you?" Catherine asked.
"I’m fine, aunt. Father and Mother will enter the banquet hall in a few minutes." He explained as they walked deeper into the palace. "Mother is in her chambers and Father is..."
"Here." Fedor appeared from the corner. He was dressed regally as always, with a red tunic and gold buttons and cufflinks, and gold patterns.
His hair had been geled back and he wore black trousers and polished black shoes.
He smiled widely at the sight of them. "My brother and his family. Good to see you here today this year. Welcome,"
"Brother in-law," Catherine greeted.
"Good evening, uncle." Aristia and Alaric greeted.
"Good evening, my lovely niece and nephew." Fedor replied, rubbing their heads before looking back up at Wilson and Catherine. "The banquet will begin in a few minutes."
He looked back down at Aristia. "Trixie and Rinnie are still getting ready in their rooms."
Aristia nodded and left.
Alaric didn’t follow after her, instead he went to stand beside Ivan.
Aristia stopped in front of the princesses’ room.
She slowly pushed it open only to be met with the sight of a group of maids moving about busily.
She couldn’t see the people they were moving around, but she could guess it was her cousins.
One of the maids turned around at the sound of the door opening and showed a bit of surprise when she saw who it was.
"Your Highness, the third princess." She bowed, causing other maids to turn too.
"Third princess," they greeted, bowing.
"Hello," Aristia said, closing the door behind her and walking towards her cousins.
"Tia!" Beatrix and Serina exclaimed. They were both sitting on chairs while maids moved around them, getting them ready for the banquet.
They were about to get up and move towards Aristia when the two maids doing their hair stopped them.
"Princesses, please stay still."
Beatrix and Serina obeyed, but their smiles stretched wide on their faces as they watched Aristia coming towards them.
"Hey, Bea. Hey, Seri." Aristia gave a small wave.
"Hey, Tia." The sisters said simultaneously.
Aristia came to stand in front of both of them, watching the maids do their hair meticulously.
But Serina’s voice stopped them.
"Do my hair the same as Tia’s."
The maids nodded, undoing the one they had been in the process of doing.
Finally, the maids clipped their hair with a delicate hairpin.
"Done," the maid tending to Serina quipped. "Would you like to take a look in the mirror, princess?" She asked, sounding a bit dreadful.
"Okay," Serina shrugged.
The maid quickly gestured to another maid who brought the mirror forward.
Serina gazed at her reflection in the mirror. "Perfect," she said.
Her hair had been done in an updo, but had a few strands let down at the sides of her face; simple yet elegant.
The maids silently breathed sighs of relief.
This was the sixth hairstyle they had done for the princess. She had rejected the five of them, and they had no other choice but to keep redoing it until she was satisfied.
There was no such problem with Beatrix as she was okay with anyone, but the sisters had to match so any hairstyle Serina rejected, they’d have to redo her sisters’. It was a lot of work for the maids.
Thankfully, the third princess came and the second princess immediately liked her hairstyle. It saved the maids the trouble of trying more hairstyles.
They silently looked at Aristia with gratitude.
Aristia, not knowing why the maids were staring at her gratefully, turned her attention back to her cousins.
They were wearing similar clothes— for events where they had to attend, the princesses only chose to wore dresses Aristia had designed.
Now, they wore an ankle length grey gown with long, white sleeves. This gown was just like a modern one and didn’t flay out at all. Instead, it flowed straight down.
The gowns’ neckline was a v-shape, but there was a white v-shaped fabric sewn on the space instead of it remaining open.
A matching black shawl was draped upon their shoulders to lessen the cold, and now they had matching hairstyles. If one didn’t know better, they would think they were triplets, just that Aristia was a bit shorter.
The maids quietly left the room, leaving the princesses alone to their business.
Aristia went around them to sit on the bed.
Beatrix and Serina turned around to face her.
But before anyone could say anything, a knock sounded on the door.
"Princesses, it is time for the banquet to begin. Her majesty requests your presence," a maid opened the door and entered, relaying the message to the three girls.
"Oh, we’ll be right there." Beatrix said.
The maid left and Beatrix turned to Aristia and Serina.
"Let’s go, then."
The three princesses left the room, heading towards the banquet hall.
The other members of the royal family were waiting outside the doors to the banquet hall.
When the princesses arrived, Catherine and Rowaine looked them over, checking to see if everything was as it should be.
Once the Chamberlain saw that the princesses’ had arrived and received the Queen’s approval, he signalled to the guards at the door.
The guard bowed and then opened the door, saying in a loud, booming voice.
"Now entering, the blessed royal family of prosperous Amberale. His Majesty the king, Her Majesty the Queen, His Highness the Crown Prince, and her Highnesses the first and second princesses."
"Now entering, His Royal Highness the Imperial Prince, Her Royal Highness the Imperial Princess, her highness the third princess and his highness the second prince."
After the guards announcements, the royal family members entered into the Grand banquet hall.
All murmurs and chatters ceasef and all in the banquet hall bowed.
"Greetings to the family blessed by the great Lord Nerin, the royal family of Amberale. May the blessings of Lord Nerin continue to shine upon you."
"Youay rise," Fedor’s voice held power, commanding reverence.
The lowered heads in the banquet hall all raised up.
The clatter of the banquet hall resumed again, everyone going about as they had done before the royal family made an entrance.
Aristia and her family integrated themselves into the banquet hall, and Ivan and the twin princesses followed along instead of seating in the throne-like chairs arranged for them on the raised platform.
On seeing that they had entered the banquet hall, the children they usually got along with immediately approached them, Aristia’s maternal cousins included.
"Your Highnesses," the children greeted when they stopped in front of them.
"Hello," the royal children waved.
"Oh, I love these new dresses." Nova Kiran said, moving to stand in front of the princesses.
"Yes. It’s not a design I’ve seen, but it’s very pretty." Alicia Eldridge said, smiling shyly at Aristia.
"Thanks," Aristia said, lightly punching Alicia’s cheeks. She just couldn’t resist doing so. Alicia was just so cute.
Alicia opened and closed her mouth, not knowing what to say.
Aristia’s action stunned a lot of onlookers. Did the third princess just... pinch the cheeks of Marquis Eldridge’s daughter?
Lauren pouted. She went over to Aristia and linked their arms together.
"Cousin~" she drawled out as if she wanted everyone to hear and know that Aristia was her cousin.
Aristia’s brows twitched. Had Lauren forgotten that Alicia was her cousin? She was speaking as if she only had one cousin which was herself.
Just then, Aristia heard a lady nearby say to her companion,
"Can you believe what I heard?"
"What did you hear?" The other lady asked, curiously.
"I’m telling you, you won’t believe what I heard." The lady said instead of answering.
"Just tell me what you heard?" The other lady became a bit impatient. Why was she keeping her in suspense?
The first lady answered. "I heard that..." She lowered her voice. "The Vanilla Courtyard serves doughnuts."
"...!"
The second lady was stunned. She looked around and quickly lowered her voice.
"What did you just say?" She asked.
When she saw that the other lady was not joking, her face morphed into disbelief.
"The Vanilla Courtyard serves doughnuts? The same delicacy we were served on the kingdom anniversary banquet? Her majesty’s gift?!" As she asked the questions, she unknowingly forgot to control her voice.
Her voice was loud enough to be heard by the people standing around.
Whispers rang out and a few ladies approached the two.
"Are you sure of what you heard?" One noblewoman asked.
"The Vanilla Courtyard serves the Queen’s gift? How impudent! Does her majesty know about this?"
"You know... I think I heard something similar." A lady said.
"Yes, yes. I went through the menu and I came across a dish named doughnut. It never crossed my mind that it was the same as her majesty’s gift..." Another young lady sighed.
"But... how did The Vanilla Courtyard get the recipe for the Queen’s gift?"
The question asked by another aristocrat stunned the aristocrats conversing and those listening.
That was true. How did The Vanilla Courtyard get their hands on the Queen’s gift?
"That could mean..." A noblewoman trailed off.
But the others knew what she left unsaid. The owner of The Vanilla Courtyard was the same person who had gifted the queen.
"I heard from my daughter that they had been served another new delicacy in the princesses’ tea party. The princesses said that it was also a gift given to them. Perhaps it’s the same person who gifted the queen that gifted the princesses." One of the noblewomen whose daughters had attended the tea party hosted by Rowaine for Beatrix and Serina the previous year said.
In that case, it wasn’t wrong for The Vanilla Courtyard to serve the delicacies since it belonged to them.
"So they serve doughnuts..." One of the listeners said.
She couldn’t wait to visit the restaurant and order the treat her mind had always been in.
Many shared similar opinions, especially knowing they were other new dishes the restaurant served.
Aristia exchanged gazes with her cousins and smiled. The Vanilla Courtyard would soon be very busy.
