Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength -
Chapter 228 - 227 Destroying the Array
Chapter 228: Chapter 227 Destroying the Array
Ronald’s eyes were firmly fixed on the ground in front of him.
And before him, the black fog, ever so willing to do the heavy lifting, rushed forward without a moment’s hesitation.
The churning black fog did not hesitate even for a second.
In an instant, the Array on the ground was completely covered by a ’violent’ force.
However, the result was somewhat different from what Ronald had anticipated.
He tried to manipulate the black fog to pry the circular object out from the center of the Array.
But the object was firmly attached to the wooden floor of the room; the force provided by the black fog was simply not enough to achieve such a goal.
Ronald instinctively looked back over his shoulder.
An unknown threat could appear at his side at any moment.
Now was not the time for hesitation; he had to take matters into his own hands.
His gaze darkened.
Ronald immediately recalled a portion of the black fog to wrap around his hands, then took two steps to reach the center of the Array in the room.
On the ground before him lay the circular object, shining with a metallic luster, seemingly unaffected by the previous activity of the black fog on its surface, simply maintaining its function.
So, Ronald bent down, intending to try and pry the object from the ground with his hands.
The result was the same as the futile attempt by the black fog.
The circular object stuck to the ground, almost no gap around it to get a grip on, and its smooth surface also made it difficult to exert force.
It couldn’t be lifted by hand...
Facing this situation, Ronald decisively stood up.
He looked at his feet.
Considering the long journey ahead, he wore traveling shoes purchased from Greenwich, particularly thickened at the soles.
—They were quite suitable for kicking things.
Thus, targeting the circular object on the ground, Ronald shifted his center of gravity to his heel and then stomped down hard.
Bang—
A rather pleasing thud followed, and even the black fog hovering over the ground was shaken away a bit.
Facing the results of his own kick.
Ronald nodded in satisfaction, then followed up with several more continuous stomps.
Bang bang bang!
Enhanced by "Divine Comedy," his physical strength was now quite satisfactory.
After a series of fierce kicks, the circular object at the center of the Array was still intact, but the surrounding floor had loosened due to Ronald’s full-force kicks.
Although an Array had been carved into the floor, it was still just a normal bedroom.
The wooden strip flooring laid on the ground had started to deform after continuous blunt impacts.
So, crouching down again, Ronald’s fingers tightly gripped the deformed edge of the floorboard, then exerted force upwards.
Creak—
Crack!
Soon, the plank in Ronald’s hand broke off with a snap.
As the structure of the Array on the ground was damaged, the central circular object also dimmed, losing its previous metallic luster.
"..."
Looking at the board he just pulled out, Ronald glanced back over his shoulder again.
The image that met his eyes let him breathe a sigh of relief.
"Huh—"
"Finally succeeded."
The inexplicable walls that had appeared in the room before had now just as mysteriously vanished behind Ronald. If no other incidents occurred next, at least the crisis of the room’s structure was resolved.
While contemplating, Ronald crouched down again.
He intended to try once more to remove the circular object from the ground.
However, the result was unexpectedly smooth.
Pat—
Just as Ronald placed his hand on it, the object loosened by itself before he could exert any force.
As if in tandem with the breaking of the Array.
This core object also lost the stability it had before.
"..."
In the silence, Ronald picked up the round object.
The egg-sized item no longer emitted light, its color and texture akin to brown sedimentary rock.
Had he not been certain that this was the core of the Array just moments ago,
Ronald would have dismissed it as an ordinary stone by the roadside in any other circumstance.
Ronald carefully recalled the knowledge he possessed.
There was nothing related to this.
Although he had crammed knowledge for a time in Greenwich, the limited time and content of the books left Ronald somewhat lacking in the field of mystical knowledge.
And this was about the level of an ordinary person involved in the mystical side.
Furrowing his brow, Ronald lightly shook his head,
"So, what is this then..."
Thump thump thump—
Just as Ronald was lost in thought staring at the stone in his hand, a series of hurried footsteps sounded from the hallway outside the bedroom.
Soon, Raphael’s voice also rose outside the door,
"Ronald, did you succeed?"
"I couldn’t find anything related downstairs at all!"
As his words ended, that guy’s figure appeared from behind the damaged door.
But compared to the last time Ronald saw him,
Raphael’s clothes were notably wrinkled now, especially that pair of overalls, one strap of which had even been torn off. Raphael was now holding the two ends of the strap together, tied in a dead knot, to keep the clothing from falling off entirely.
Of course, what was even more eye-catching
was the red lipstick mark on his neck.
Just as they heard through the wall before, the out-of-control maid downstairs had indeed been very enthusiastic with him.
And in front of Ronald, Raphael took two steps into the room.
His gaze swept around the room, quickly focusing on what was in Ronald’s hands.
From any angle, this brownish stone seemed the most suspect.
Thus, Raphael straightforwardly asked,
"Ronald, is this the core of the Array?"
Ronald nodded in reply,
"At least before I broke the Array, this thing was placed at the very center."
"And it used to shine with light."
Raphael raised an eyebrow but didn’t rush to take the stone from Ronald’s hand to inspect it; instead, he took two steps forward first to survey the Array on the floor.
Although Ronald had forcibly removed a piece of the flooring,
the overall structure of the Array seemed intact, which did not impede Raphael’s observation.
After staring at the ground in silence for a few seconds, Raphael then crouched down, preparing to touch the engravings of the Array on the floor.
The next second, a surprising scene occurred.
The moment his fingers made contact with the Array on the ground, the lines carved into the room’s floorboard suddenly turned gaseous and dissipated, vanishing completely before the two men in the blink of an eye.
"..."
Facing a scene reminiscent of sublimation, Raphael was momentarily stunned before he murmured,
"So, it’s like this, huh..."
Standing beside Raphael, Ronald acted on the principle of asking when he didn’t understand and immediately said,
"Raphael, what did you make out?"
