Chapter 451: A deactivated portal
Once that Plane World gets discovered, the secret about the Mythic Units’ Creature Dwellings... yeah, there’s no way to keep that under wraps anymore.
Which meant—
This was a wake-up call for Ethan.
He had to break out of Sylvanwood as soon as possible.
He needed to claim more territory, conquer more lands, and bury Sylvanwood deep within the heart of his domain—so far in that even if the borders were breached, no one would be able to reach it. That was the only way to keep the Plane World and the Mythic Units’ Dwellings hidden, to minimize the risk of exposure.
He had to cover his tracks—completely.
"But why us?" Vaelric grumbled, clearly unhappy. "We Storm Dragons are warriors too. We want to fight!"
"Because you guys are the best at reshaping the environment and rewriting Nature’s Edict," Elynn replied coolly, not missing a beat. "That’s the only way to keep the Plane World from being discovered. Sure, the Gold Dragons can do it too, but their magic skills aren’t on your level. So, like it or not, the Storm Dragons are the best fit for this job."
"If it were anything else, maybe we could talk about it."
"But this involves the Plane World’s secret. There’s no room for negotiation. We’re not in a position to take risks—not yet."
"Alright, alright..." Vaelric sighed, finally backing down after hearing Elynn’s reasoning.
She was right. The Plane World was the real issue here. If word got out, Emerald Castle would become a target for every power out there. And once that happened, things would spiral out of control fast.
They couldn’t afford to gamble. There was no margin for error.
They had to go all in.
"But if that’s the case..." Elynn frowned, her brows knitting together. "Master, even with Princess Seraphina here, we’re still short on troops."
"Don’t worry about that. I’ve got it covered," Ethan said with a grin, shaking his head. Then, with a wave of his hand, he summoned all the unit rewards he’d been stockpiling in his system space.
"These are the new standard units I just got. Let’s see... huh? Where’s the Green Dragon?!"
Ethan froze, his expression turning puzzled.
Because as he looked over the summoned units, he realized something strange—there were no Green Dragons. Not a single one. And not just that—there weren’t any Gold Dragons either.
All he had were Ancient War Trees, Behemoths, Ebonite Colossi, Ancient Behemoths... and Storm Dragons.
"What the hell? What’s going on?" Ethan muttered, rubbing his chin, clearly confused.
There was no way the system just ate his rewards, right?
That’d be ridiculous.
"ROAR!"
Suddenly, a thunderous dragon’s roar echoed from the sky. Everyone looked up—and saw Auremax descending from above.
"You’re back too?" Vaelric’s face darkened, his eyes narrowing. "If you’re not holding the front line, what if those Inferno Devils find an opening?"
"Something happened. I had no choice but to return," Auremax said, shaking his head, his expression grim.
"What happened?" Ethan asked.
"There’s a deactivated portal in the eastern borderlands. It suddenly activated—and a flood of Green Dragons and Gold Dragons poured out. And not just that... there were Ace Units among them, just like me. They seem to have come from a faraway place, transported here through the portal. And, my lord... they want to speak with you," Auremax said, turning to Ethan.
Ethan went quiet for a moment, then his eyes lit up with sudden realization.
"I get it now..."
He’d figured out how the system distributed unit rewards.
If it was just standard units, they’d be sent straight to his system space. But if the reward included Ace Units—like Vaelric and Auremax—they wouldn’t just appear in his inventory. They’d arrive in person, from somewhere else.
Of course...
There was probably a test built into this too.
If he wasn’t strong enough—if he didn’t meet the standards those Ace Units demanded—then even if the system gave him the reward, he might end up with nothing at all.
But honestly, Ethan wasn’t worried about that at all.
With the strength and foundation of Emerald Castle as it stood now, how could a few Ace Unit–level Green Dragons or Gold Dragons possibly pose a threat?
Not a chance.
"Auremax, how many Ace Units are among those Green and Gold Dragons?" Ethan asked.
"Three in total," Auremax replied without hesitation. "Two Green Dragons and one Gold Dragon—all Ace Units."
"Alright then, let’s go meet them," Ethan nodded, then turned to the others. "Vaelric, take your kin and guard the Plane World. And listen—don’t let so much as a fly or a bug sneak in there. Got it?"
"Yes, my lord!" Vaelric responded firmly.
"Elynn, I’m leaving Emerald Castle in your hands. Also, keep a close eye on the Plane World. Once you’re sure everything’s stable and secure... we’ll begin the transformation."
"I want to turn that place into Emerald Castle’s secret base."
"Understood, Master! Don’t worry, I’ll handle everything," Elynn nodded without hesitation.
"Oh, right—almost forgot," Ethan said, as if something had just come to mind.
He reached into his system space and pulled out ten Awakening Stones of Arcane Genesis—orange-grade.
"Elynn, these are orange-tier Awakening Stones of Arcane Genesis. They can massively accelerate the evolution progress of any Tier 1 to Tier 12 Ace Unit. And for regular units in that same tier range, they give a 90% chance to evolve into Ace Units."
"Take them. I’m putting them in your hands."
"If you see anyone who needs them—or who’s a good fit—go ahead and use them."
In Ethan’s eyes, the real value of these Awakening Stones was in cultivating new orange-tier Legendary heroes. And were those important?
Absolutely.
Every faction—big or small, even the major alliances—needed a solid number of orange-tier Legendary heroes to form their mid-tier and upper-mid-tier backbone. After all, Crimson Ultimate heroes were still incredibly rare.
...
So, in most situations, across most battlefields...
It was the orange-tier Legendary heroes doing the heavy lifting.
That said—
Given Ethan’s current power and status...
Orange-tier heroes? Honestly, they didn’t matter all that much to him anymore.
At this point, it would take at least a Crimson Ultimate hero—even a D-rank one—to get his attention.
Which is why he chose to delegate.
He handed over all the orange-tier Awakening Stones to Elynn, letting her decide how to distribute them.
He wasn’t going to micromanage.
"Thank you for your trust, Master. I’ll use them wisely," Elynn said, a little stunned at first, then clearly moved.
"I know you will," Ethan smiled.
Then, he picked a spot within Emerald Castle and constructed the Twilight Abbey of the Forsaken. Once it was built, he had Seraphina enter and receive both the Rebirth and Sacrifice buffs.
After that—
He and Auremax took off.
Together, they flew toward the eastern borderlands—toward the portal Auremax had spoken of.
