My Wife Turns Out to be an Empress of the Dynasty -
Chapter 767 - 767: Arthur Endures Humiliation
"Is this all the strength the Bright Clan Divine Son possesses?" Gu Lan sneered, his voice dripping with disdain after sending Arthur stumbling backward.
Arthur's expression darkened immediately, and his anger flared up like a blazing fire, but deep down, he understood all too well—he was no match for Gu Lan now.
With his energy surging once again, Arthur gripped his sword tightly and took a leap, retreating to several thousand feet away.
"I'll settle the score with you sooner or later!" His voice was as cold as ice, but his movements were swift as he fled.
Gu Lan didn't intend to kill him. A lesson was enough. He knew well that if Arthur wanted to escape, he wouldn't be able to stop him. The most important thing was, killing Arthur would definitely provoke Bright Clan's revenge, something he was not ready to face with his current strength.
Once Arthur had disappeared from view, Gu Lan let out a long breath, his own aura slowly retracting. He floated down to the ground, landing before Shanggu Yulong.
The oppressive force from the sky had already dissipated, and Shanggu Yulong had also retracted his aura. His face was pale, and there was an unmistakable look of shame in his eyes. If it weren't for Gu Lan, he would have most likely been killed by Arthur.
Looking at Gu Lan, Shanggu Yulong bowed respectfully.
"Thank you!"
Gu Lan waved his hand dismissively. "No need for thanks. The grievances between us are now settled. From today onward, your Upper God Clan shall not step into this place again."
Though victorious, Gu Lan had noticed many issues during the battle. He understood that continuing to fight against these individuals was a losing game. If he kept facing them, Divine Son Arthur would undoubtedly find another opportunity to set him up. He could handle most of the people here, but Bright Clan was another matter entirely. It was not an opponent to be underestimated.
As the head of the Upper God Clan, Shanggu Yulong was not a man to break his word. They had made a pact with Gu Lan before, and he would honor it.
"From today, my Upper God Clan will never again cause trouble here. Please rest assured, my lord," he said, his voice sincere.
With that, Shanggu Yulong and the remaining few members of his clan turned and left. This battle had cost them dearly—many of their strongest fighters had fallen, and they had lost hundreds of elites.
Once they were gone, Gu Lan turned away without a second thought.
Ding True Man quickly approached, holding out two pills in his hands.
Seeing the pills, Gu Lan's face showed some confusion. Before he could speak, Ding True Man respectfully explained, "Master, these pills can help restore your energy."
Gu Lan didn't take them, his expression flat. "These won't help me."
Ding True Man understood, his face falling a little, but Gu Lan's strength had indeed been partially replenished after absorbing the energy in the formation earlier. The pills, although effective for others, were practically useless to him.
"I've already recovered a great deal," Gu Lan added, stepping lightly into the air as he prepared to leave.
Ding True Man, still in awe of his master's abilities, followed closely behind.
Soon, they returned to the Royal School. As they arrived, Zhongren, Gu Simu, and the others hurried over to them.
"My Lord!" Zhongren greeted.
"Father, are you injured?" Gu Simu's voice was laced with worry. She had felt the terrifying power of the battle earlier, and it had left her shaken.
Gu Lan smiled lightly, reassuring her. "Don't worry. That guy couldn't hurt me."
He was glad he had made adjustments to the formation before the fight. If not, things might have taken a much darker turn.
With that, he turned his attention to Zhongren. "Come with me."
Zhongren's face was puzzled but he didn't question the command. His energy spread, and he quickly followed.
Gu Simu tried to follow as well, but Gu Lan stopped her with a glance.
"You can't come."
Gu Simu was not pleased by the command, but since Gu Lan had spoken, she didn't argue further. She just nodded, looking concerned but understanding.
Gu Lan didn't waste any more words. He leaped into the air, and Zhongren followed closely behind.
In no time, they reached the area where the formation was still active.
When Zhongren saw the formation before him, his eyes widened in disbelief. He stood still, shocked by the immense power emanating from it.
"This power is... incredible!" he exclaimed.
Zhongren had studied formations for many years, but this level of power was unprecedented for him. He had never encountered such overwhelming strength.
Gu Lan's face broke into a meaningful smile as he observed the formation. The energy contained within it was undeniably potent, and having control over it would be immensely useful to him.
"You're proficient in various formations. Can you find a way to take this formation down?" Gu Lan's voice was calm, but there was an unmistakable edge of command to it.
Zhongren was taken aback, his expression flickering with a mix of surprise and concern. He pondered for a long time before finally nodding gravely.
"It's possible, but my lord, I will need your assistance," he said.
Gu Lan's expression remained unchanged as he nodded slightly. He released his energy, allowing his aura to spread out. As long as he could take control of the formation, everything else would fall into place.
Meanwhile, far from the Royal School, Arthur had returned to the Bright Clan's grand hall. As soon as he stepped inside, his aura flared up again, and his face was grim, exuding an aura of icy rage. The Bright Clan's elite members, who had been standing around the hall, looked at him with a heavy sense of unease but dared not speak.
Arthur's cold voice shattered the silence.
"A bunch of useless fools, you can't even handle a simple task!"
His eyes locked onto the group of people standing there, and they immediately dropped to their knees, sensing the brewing storm in his gaze. None of them knew exactly what had happened, but they could tell from his demeanor that things had gone terribly wrong.
One of them cautiously asked, "What exactly went wrong, my lord?"
Arthur stepped forward and grabbed him by the throat. With a single squeeze, the man's face turned bright red, and he struggled for breath, unable to comprehend the situation. In an instant, his life was snuffed out with a sickening crack as Arthur crushed his windpipe.
The others watched in silent horror as Arthur coldly surveyed them, his anger barely contained. Despite the fury boiling inside him, Arthur knew Bright Clan could not afford to lose more of its subordinates right now. They needed every capable hand.
"You'll have a chance to redeem yourselves," he sneered, his voice dripping with venom. "Bring me Gu Lan's head—by any means necessary!"
Having suffered humiliation at Gu Lan's hands, Arthur was determined to get revenge. He would stop at nothing to make Gu Lan pay for what he had endured.
As the others trembled before him, they quickly disappeared into the shadows, leaving the hall in silence. Arthur's anger was palpable, and his cold, murderous gaze never left the spot where they had just stood.
"Don't you dare fail me again," he muttered under his breath, already plotting how he would make Gu Lan pay for his insolence.
Outside the hall, the sounds of footsteps grew distant, replaced by a chilling scream that echoed throughout the palace grounds.
The tension in the air thickened, and the saga between Gu Lan and Arthur was far from over. What would become of their fates? Only time would tell.
