Chapter 344: Storm Dragon’s Trial (Part 3)

As we talked with the Storm Dragon at Rose Peak, she told us that she had been taking care of the relic after Kyoko asked her to.

Apparently, the dragon had a familiar contract with her back then, and her last order to the dragon was to safekeep the relic until another sage like her would come looking for it.

We thought that we had completed the trial after climbing the mountain with no magic, but the dragon said that she had one more thing she needed to see before giving us the relic.

Suddenly, the dragon’s body was wholly covered in black clouds, hiding her appearance from us for a brief moment, and after the clouds dissipated, she was standing in her human form.

The Storm Dragon was a Legendary Beast, so it wasn’t strange that she would be able to turn herself into a more human-like figure.

She was quite tall and had long white hair with golden eyes, wearing nothing but a thin white dress that was pretty revealing.

There were still a few electrical currents flowing and crackling around her body, but that was a side effect of her vast amount of MP.

Vespera, seemingly knowing what the dragon wanted to do, stepped aside and left me and Melina to face the woman, who slowly approached us with a curious gaze.

Her face was pretty emotionless, but I could tell that her eyes were interested in us.

She didn’t say "inspect" or anything to check our stats. She just stared at us and was able to look at all of our information, so Melina and I did the same and inspected her.

<Storm Dragon

Legendary Beast

Able to create storm calamities.

Can control the weather.

Immune to all poisons and illnesses.

Extremely dangerous.>

Honestly, the information we got wasn’t the most detailed, but that was as good as it could get when inspecting these powerful beings.

I remembered it happened to me with Vespera, where I wasn’t able to look at all her information until she became my familiar.

The dragon placed her hand on her chin and started thinking about something while switching her gaze between me and Melina.

"Hmmm, you..." said the dragon, pointing at Melina, making us perk up with anticipation.

"You will be the one to complete the trial. Else, I can’t give you the relic..." the dragon continued.

"What? I thought we had already completed the trial," I replied.

The dragon calmly shook her head and explained that climbing was only the first part of the trial.

Ever since we arrived at the Rose Peak area, we noticed that the dark purple rock from the mountain was being warmed up, which made us believe that it was an active volcano.

Even though the shape of the mountain wasn’t even close to resembling a volcano, we attributed it to being one of those things that we could only find in this world.

However, we were wrong, and it turned out that the energy that was heating up the entire mountain wasn’t a volcano’s lava but the dragon’s own energy.

Whenever the dragon slept, her MP would act on its own. Some of it went into the mountain to keep it warm, and some went into the environment to generate rain for the surrounding areas.

As the dragon explained her powers to us, I couldn’t help but think that dragons were a necessary component when it came to this world’s environment.

I mean, the woman could literally conjure a storm strong enough to destroy a city, but she could also summon rain in places suffering from drought.

The last part of the trial was to withstand the energy that was flowing inside the mountain and control it.

She had chosen Melina to do it, but the dragon gave us an example first since we weren’t sure what it was that she wanted her to do.

As the dragon stood in the center of the plateau, strands of electricity started to flow around her violently, making her stretch one hand forward.

Suddenly, it felt as if the MP that kept the entire mountain warm started to flow from that one spot, which was overwhelming as it was the highest amount of MP I had ever felt coming from one place.

Still, just as the energy shot out, it spiraled around the dragon’s stretched arm, turning into an orb of condensed electrical magic.

After the torrent of MP calmed down, the dragon raised the orb and shot it upwards into the sky, producing a massive electrical blast that sounded as loud as ten tons of TNT blowing up above us.

"If you can do that, the relic is yours..." said the dragon calmly.

Failure to condense the energy could result in a person’s death, so this wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

I was feeling a bit nervous, but Melina looked pretty confident about being able to do it, and while I trusted her, I still couldn’t help feeling worried for her.

After Melina stood in the center of the plateau, the dragon snapped her fingers, and the torrent of MP started to come out once again.

Melina extended both of her hands forward, and she seemed to struggle for a moment, making me get into position to push her out of the way if it got too dangerous.

Still, she gritted her teeth and adjusted her own MP levels, making the energy flowing out of the mountain start spiraling around her extended arms.

It took her triple the time that it took the dragon to condense the energy into an orb, and as the MP that was coming out of the mountain dissipated, Melina was sweating and panting tiredly with the powerful lightning orb gently floating above her palm.

Melina sighed with exhaustion, pointing her palm upwards and releasing the orb, lighting up the sky with a flash and producing a loud explosion.

Right after she released the spell, she fell to her knees, and before she could hit the ground with the rest of her body, I rushed to her side and managed to catch her.

"Heh, did you see that?" she asked, barely able to speak from her exhaustion.

Honestly, I didn’t think I would have been able to do that on my first try, but Melina had a skill called "Magic Assimilation," which she had been using all this time to learn magic from me.

It allowed her to learn any spell that she saw as long as she understood the concept of the magic that was being cast.

In other words, the only person in this world who was capable of condensing that energy on their first try was Melina, who only needed to watch the dragon doing it once to understand it.
