Chapter 326: A Devil’s Betrayal

After I ran over to the location where Melina and Yoru were fighting, I rushed to Melina’s side, thinking that Drakzen was going to prevent her from finishing off Vyrazul.

However, Drakzen ended up turning around mid-way and going to the opposite side, where Yoru stood next to Minotaur’s corpse and kicked him away.

Melina crashed down on the courtyard with her electric spear, and the impact created a massive wave of dust and dirt that blinded my surroundings for a moment, so I used wind magic to disperse it quickly.

Behind me, Vyrazul had her entire torso blown out from the indomitable force of the Thundering Spear, leaving only her head and legs that were slowly turning to dust.

Somehow, the succubus was still conscious, and after she realized what had happened, she glanced at the other side of the courtyard, where Drakzen was standing on top of Minotaur.

"Drakzen you bastard!" Vyrazul’s head shouted as tears formed under her eyelids.

"You promised me it would work!" she continued.

Drakzen gazed at Vyrazul’s head lying on the ground and gave her a wicked smile.

"It will work, Vyrazul. It’s unfortunate, but you are now a required sacrifice..." he replied, shocking the female devil in her last moments.

Right after making his comrade fall into despair, Drakzen pulled out an obsidian potion vial with a cork, which gave me a strange feeling.

"You know, I wasn’t able to get all of Salamandra, but this will do as a replacement..." he said, opening the bottle.

As soon as the cork went off, the blood of Minotaur started to leave his body through his wounds and face, which was honestly pretty disturbing.

’Is he extracting the beast’s blood?’ I pondered as the blood trails were floating and pouring inside the seemingly infinite black vial.

Right before I could rush towards Drakzen, I felt another surge of demonic energy coming his way and saw Jackson crashing down with his spear right on top of Drakzen’s location.

With the tip of his spear hitting the ground and generating a massive blast, I thought that he had stopped the blood extraction process.

Nonetheless, Drakzen was able to avoid the attack and completely drain Minotaur from the blood that remained in his corpse, leaving his body slowly disintegrating like Vyrazul’s.

"Well then, everyone. As always, it was a pleasure..." said Drakzen, his words directed at everyone in the courtyard.

Shooting a final glance at Vyrazul’s crying head, he gave her another wicked smile before commenting again on how unfortunate it was that she had to become a sacrifice. Still, his expression said otherwise.

Jackson and I launched ourselves at him, and right as we swung our weapons to hit him, Drakzen completely disappeared from the area.

"Ahhhhh, dammit, dammit, dammit, I hate you! I HATE YO-...!" Vyrazul’s severed head started shouting but got cut off as her chin and mouth disintegrated.

Melina’s awakened state came to an end, and I could feel like she had no energy left, but somehow, she stood tall and looked down at Vyrazul’s head with disdain.

She didn’t utter a single word to the devil, who had no choice but to look up and have the face of her killer be the last thing she would see.

Once the remains of Vyrazul had wholly disintegrated into thin air, Melina was about to plop on the ground, but I caught her in time before she hit the floor.

"Ichi..." she muttered with a tired tone.

"It’s okay, Mel. You are just exhausted from the awakening," I said, trying to comfort her.

I gave her a healing potion to mend her wounds. Even though they weren’t anything that could endanger her life, it would help in her recuperation.

The palace of the Guanghua Capital was half destroyed by our battle, and there were a few districts that were pretty much deleted from the map.

While kneeling on the ground and holding Melina in my arms, I used a voice crystal to send a message to all the squadrons that were battling around the city to let them know that Vyrazul was dead.

I didn’t know how our teams were doing, but I counted on them to complete their missions.

Jackson turned back to his human form and picked up Yoru from the rubbles, who had turned into his wolf form after getting knocked out by Drakzen.

Our mission was over, and all we could do was wait for the others to finish their tasks and advance to the palace.

"Ichi... I remember..." Melina muttered in her exhausted voice.

"Do you mean... You remember everything?" I asked.

She smiled softly and gently put one of her palms on my cheek. "Everything. My first love, my life-mate, my best friend, my husband..." she said.

"Melina, I...-" I spoke up, not knowing exactly what I was going to say, but I got cut off as she grabbed me by the collar and pulled me down for a kiss that lasted for two seconds before she lost consciousness.

"Seems I was wrong..." said Jackson as he approached me from behind with Yoru on his shoulder.

"She really is your wife, huh?" he continued with a playful tone and a bright smile that was Jackson’s signature.

I let out a small chuckle and looked at my friend as he slowly sat down beside me, gently placing the knocked-out Yoru on the ground so I could apply a healing potion on him, too.

"Hey, by the way, thanks for everything..." I said to Jackson while treating Yoru.

"I don’t know why you are thanking me. I didn’t do anything..." he replied with a somewhat sad tone.

"That’s not true, man. If it wasn’t for you, Leslie, Yujun, and their families would have all gotten killed..." I said.

Jackson seemed like he was about to cut me off, but I kept speaking before he got the chance.

"You went through that suffering for years for kids you didn’t even know. I wish all humans were like you, Jackson..." I elaborated.

To me, it felt like Jackson liked to downplay his actions simply by the fact that he was a devil, so I made it clear that if it weren’t for him, this entire country would have been in a worse state.
