My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 319: Vyrazul’s Tricks

Chapter 319: Vyrazul’s Tricks

After Melina split Vyrazul and Sinoc, I was fighting the mage on one side of the palace while the devil and Melina duked it out on the opposite side.

The palace was the largest we had seen, so even if we were technically in the same area, we were quite far from each other.

Sinoc’s humanity was gone entirely, which was visible from the way his face had changed to look like a rabid monster.

His attacks were getting more intense, but I was still able to deflect them with my bo while simultaneously casting gravity magic to slow him down.

At one point, his energy increased dramatically in less than a second, and he used that moment to approach me and kick me in the face, sending me to the courtyard of the palace and crashing against a statue.

I could feel a drop of blood coming down my face, but I wasn’t feeling any pain, so I ignored it.

Melina’s fight with Vyrazul could be heard all around the area as their attacks were quite destructive, which only made me want to regroup with her even faster.

’Focus, Ichiro... Remember your emotions at that time...’ I thought.

It was time for me to use my awakening, and the one that I knew I could use for sure was my phoenix fire form, which was powered by my own emotions.

Suddenly, Leslie’s memories flooded into my head once again, reminding me of the atrocities that Sinoc committed without a second thought.

Simultaneously, the memories of her reuniting with her mother also made an appearance in my head, but somehow, that made me even angrier.

"You tried to take everything from her..." I muttered as my MP went completely serene, making Sinoc take a cautionary step back.

Then, Yujun appeared in my head, giving me his signature grunts of approval whenever I talked to him, and the moment he thanked me for saving his family.

I never had little siblings, but at that moment, I could feel what it meant to fight for one as my body started to become the flames of the phoenix.

"You said you liked power..." I muttered.

"Let me show you what true power is..." I said, completing my transformation as my entire body looked like it was made out of pure fire.

For whatever reason, Sinoc thought he would be able to land an attack on me while I was on this form and tried to kick me in the face.

Nonetheless, I simply raised my arm to block it, making his leg catch fire as he stepped back and tried putting it out.

"This is phoenix fire, idiot. You can’t just put it out with magic..." I said, closing my fist and making the fire on his leg dissipate.

"Now, if you’ll excuse me, my fiancee is waiting for me," I continued, pointing my palm at Sinoc and creating a vortex of fire that caught his entire body.

When I closed my palm, the fire instantly disappeared, and all that was left of Sinoc was his badly burnt body.

His wings, which were made of pure shadows, were fully vaporized as the ashes slowly cascaded down.

One of his horns had been broken, and both of his arms were burnt to the point he couldn’t move them anymore.

I raised my hand again, ready to finish him off, when I received a telepathic message from Vespera.

["Ichiro, I’m sending someone else to help!"] she said inside my mind.

["Huh? I’m kinda busy right now..."] I replied.

Nevertheless, I felt a massive source of MP coming from the outskirts, which I also recognized.

’Astra...?’ I thought.

It didn’t even take twenty seconds for her to arrive at our location, appearing in between Sinoc and me while her body was covered in wind and lightning magic.

The old sage had a serious expression on her with a gaze that pierced through her former pupil.

"Sorry, Ichiro. I know it’s not my place to ask, but please leave this matter to me..." said Astra without taking her eyes off Sinoc.

Honestly, I only complied with her since I respected Astra a lot and because she used to know Sinoc. Otherwise, I don’t think I would have been able to control my emotions in that state.

I took a deep breath and turned my body back to normal so that my energy would stop depleting, and I gave the sage her alone time with her former pupil as I rushed to Melina’s side.

The energy coming from her fight with the devil could be felt all around the palace area, so I was able to locate them quickly.

However, I arrived a few seconds late as the first thing I witnessed was Vyrazul using her clawy nails to grab one of Melina’s arms and infusing her other hand with shadow magic, hitting her in the stomach and sending her flying at high speeds against a stone wall.

The impact of her body destroyed a piece of the barrier, and as she sat with her back against the wall, unconscious with blood dripping down her face, my body used my phoenix awakening involuntarily.

The simple act of seeing Melina getting hurt was enough to make my mind go blank, with my eyes fixated solely on Vyrazul, who wasn’t hiding her horns or demon tail anymore.

In the blink of an eye, I appeared right in front of the devil with a fist fully charged with phoenix fire, and she was able to block it with her palm, creating a massive explosion around us that destroyed part of the palace’s roof.

I wasn’t thinking about anything during the encounter. My body was attacking and defending on its own, completely fueled by my raging emotions.

Vyrazul would wave her arms to the sides and produce massive arcs of shadows that could slice stone as if it were butter. Nonetheless, my phoenix fire was burning hot enough to vaporize her attacks before they could get to me.

The devil showed a certain admiration at the fact that I could burn shadows with phoenix fire, but then again, I was barely listening to her since the awakening completely overtook my body.

Suddenly, Vyrazul started laughing and took a quick step back to get some breathing room from my onslaught of attacks.

I kept chasing after her with my bo fully charged, and instead of adopting a defensive stance, the devil opened her arms with a smile as her body began shifting forms.

When I was merely inches away from striking her in the head with my bo, I noticed who she turned into, and it was as if my entire body had shut down, making me completely halt all of my movements.

The black-haired devil with red eyes and scary horns now had long, light brown hair and pearly emerald eyes.

"What...?" I muttered.

Her figure had changed to look exactly like Melina in our past lives, the woman who was my wife and best friend and the person I loved the most in the entire world.

She had a soft smile that I hadn’t seen in so long that it made my body almost completely numb, shutting off my awakening and leaving me utterly defenseless in front of her.

I knew that she wasn’t the real Melina, obviously, but my body wouldn’t listen to me and attack her like I wanted.

It was as if my body and my brain were fighting each other on what to do, and as I was stupified before her, she kicked me in the face and sent me rolling back a few meters on the roof of the palace.

I quickly stood up, almost regaining my senses, but once again, when she appeared before me with that form, my body halted its movements and left me open for another strike.

I couldn’t even cast any defensive spells to protect myself, so her strikes were doing the most damage it could do to me.

After spitting out some blood, I closed my eyes, thinking that if I didn’t see her, then I could attack back or at least defend myself.

"Ichi..." Melina’s voice called to me, making me open my eyes by pure instinct.

Nevertheless, the person in front of me was Vyrazul, still looking like my past wife with a wicked smile that was clearly not hers.

Frankly, her evil expressions were ruining the image of my past wife in my mind, but I was mostly frustrated at the fact that I couldn’t protect myself from her tricks.

Right at that moment, I felt like a fatal attack was coming at me, and my body moved instinctively to the side, making me feel a sharp pain on the right side of my chest and pushing me off the roof.

Vyrazul laughed loudly from the rooftop as she jumped down to my location, and when I tried to cast magic to move, I realized she cursed me again.

"Who would have guessed that your weakness would be something so trivial! Ahaha, humans are so stupid!" Vyrazul exclaimed, still looking like my past wife.

I was lying on the ground, struggling from the pain of the curse, and as Vyrazul stood before me and looked down, ready to execute me, I heard the crackling of lightning nearby.
