My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 299: Leslie’s Memories

Chapter 299: Leslie’s Memories

While I was having breakfast with Yujun, Leslie kept jumping around the room with joy, saying that the "red man" was right.

"What are you talking about?" Melina asked, catching the girl in her arms.

Leslie opened her mouth, ready to speak up, but suddenly realized she was about to blurt out a secret and covered her mouth with both hands.

"Is it a secret?" Melina asked.

"Yes, but... big sister and big brother can hear it," Leslie replied.

It seemed that the little girl was trying to imitate our cautious demeanor of keeping secrets, so I used sound magic to make everything inside the room completely silent to the outside.

Even if she yelled her secret out loud, nobody outside the room would hear it.

Feeling more confident, Leslie told us that when she first found herself in the commoners’ area, there was a man with long red hair and a blonde woman who took care of her for three days.

The two never gave their names to the girl, and on their final day, they returned to the shack with Yujun and left him with Leslie.

’A man with red hair and a blonde woman...’ I pondered.

I only knew two people with long red hair, and only one of them was a man accompanied by a blonde woman.

"Jackson and Karla..." I muttered, surprising Melina as she didn’t think about that.

They left Sephyr around the time that this was all happening, so it was very possible that the two of them came to Guanghua right after.

"Leslie, can you come closer for a bit?" I asked.

The little girl sat next to me on the couch, and I gently placed my hand on her head, using my forbidden memory magic.

When I delved into her memories, my spell could tell me which ones had been forgotten, and as I inspected them closer, I noticed that she didn’t forget them due to some spell but because they were so painful that her body had erased them from her brain.

In one of these forgotten memories, Leslie was getting carried by a blonde woman who seemed to be her mother while her father ran behind them.

The three of them reached a shack in the commoners’ area and sighed with relief, thinking they had lost their pursuers. However, their peace was broken when they heard a knock on the door.

It was a man wearing a robe that was similar to the ones they used at the Mages’ Tower. He had short white hair, deep purple eyes, and a wholly indifferent expression at the terrified family before him.

Raising his hand, he cast a spell that was too fast for Leslie to see anything, but when she turned her head slightly, she saw both of her parents had been killed by invisible blades.

The man stood before the little girl, who was in a state of complete shock with her eyes widened and filled with tears, and raised his hand to end her life.

Suddenly, a side wall broke down as a man rushed in with a spear in hand, forcing the white-haired mage to get pushed out of the shack.

It was my good friend, Jackson, who was also secretly a devil.

"Karla!" he shouted.

"I know!" the knight shouted back as she entered the destroyed shack and witnessed the scene.

She quickly pulled out a pair of potions from a bag and doused the two parents’ bodies with it before taking Leslie in her arms and running away.

The little girl was too shocked to move or say anything, and all she saw was Jackson standing before the mage, allowing Karla to get away until Leslie lost consciousness, ending the memory.

Everything I had seen had been forgotten by Leslie, which made me ponder if that was a good or bad thing. I mean, she forgot her parents, but she also forgot how they died in front of her, so I didn’t know what to make of it.

The next memory was of her waking up in another shack, and both Jackson and Karla were present, giving her a warm smile as she opened her eyes.

The scenes were getting shorter, and after seeing three days worth of memories of Karla and Jackson taking care of the little girl, I found the moment that Yujun arrived.

"Listen up, Leslie. We need to go, or you two will be in danger..." Jackson said to the girl as he gently patted her head.

He looked a little beat up, which made me wonder if he had fought the assassins who tried to kill Yujun.

"I promise, a man named Ichiro will pass by and help you someday. He is my good friend, so I know for sure that he will come here..." Jackson continued.

Leslie had tears rolling down her cheeks as she didn’t know that their stay would be so short-lived. Still, she confidently said that she would wait and protect Yujun in the meantime.

Jackson gave her a warm smile, but I could tell that he felt terrible inside. He was my friend, so I knew when his expressions were hiding something behind it.

’Jackson, what the hell happened...?’

Separating my hand from Leslie’s head and returning to reality, my anger had risen up to the point where I felt I could awaken at that very moment.

The man with white hair and purple eyes matched the description of Sinoc that Lord Bao told me, and after seeing what he had done to Leslie’s parents, my blood was boiling uncontrollably.

I took a deep breath and gave Leslie a hug, which seemed to catch her by surprise.

"His name was Jackson, and he is my good friend..." I muttered, making the little girl perk up with enthusiasm.

"He was right, Leslie. We are here to help you, Yujun, and everyone else suffering in this country." I continued, making her smile brightly.

Melina understood right away that something was upsetting me, whispering that my MP was going wild.

"What did you see?" Melina asked.

In a way, I was glad that I was the one who saw Leslie’s memories, or I was sure that Melina would have gone straight to look for Sinoc at that very instant.

Honestly, it was taking every single drop of self-control in me not to burn the entire palace to the ground with how much anger I was feeling.

Still, I told Melina what I witnessed in her repressed memories, but not before making her promise that she wouldn’t act rashly after hearing it.
