My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 293: The Sickly Noblewoman
Chapter 293: The Sickly Noblewoman
After Mei Ling told us about the three families, we knew what house was the one we needed to take for ourselves.
"The Military Chief might know a lot that we don’t..." I commented.
"Agreed. Besides, Ling said that it was only him and his wife living there..." said Melina.
After Mei Ling sent us the message explaining who the three families were, we sent another message asking for more information on the lion crest.
It was the crest of the Bao family, a middle-aged couple who lived in the capital while their two children, who were adults, took care of their small territory.
The chief wouldn’t return home until nighttime, but that was also the best time for us to take it over, so we decided to change our plans a tad bit.
I opened my void pocket and took out four invisibility potions, giving two to the children.
"When we start drinking this, you two chug it at the same time. Alright?" I said to Leslie and Yujun, who stared at the potion vials with confusion.
As the four of us chugged down the potion and turned invisible, the two kids were scanning their surroundings, commenting on how everything looked "more blue" and how Melina and I looked "purple."
It was a side effect of the potion. When drinking the invisibility potion, everything looked a little more blue, as if a camera filter had been placed in front of our eyes.
Whenever someone who was invisible saw another invisible person, they looked as if a purple aura was enveloping them, so we knew for sure that the two kids were invisible at that moment.
"You two, stay here for a bit and do not go anywhere..." I said, and the two kids diligently sat on the side of the alley.
Without wasting any more time on the potion, Melina and I made our way to the gates of the Bao mansion, where two guards were standing outside.
We didn’t want to use too much magic since we didn’t want to get tracked down by a mage, so we decided to use physical prowess to knock the guards out.
Since we couldn’t teleport them anywhere, we took their bodies with us inside the gates, which would have been strange if a person walked by and saw the two unconscious guards levitating.
We hid their bodies in a bush in the courtyard and took out the other five that were patrolling around. Then, we went to the main entrance and opened it with a strong kick.
Two maids who were passing by were startled, as all they could see was the double doors slamming open with nobody on the other side.
We noticed that the maids had the slave necklaces on them, but they didn’t look as abused or hurt as the others we had seen on the outskirts. Still, we couldn’t risk them screaming and asking for help, so we knocked them out quickly.
The mansion had a total of fifteen servants, all of whom had the slave necklaces on them, and eight guards.
Once everyone was knocked out, we dragged their bodies to the main living room and tied them up, securing the knot with Melina’s sealing magic.
Before the thirty minutes were up, we went back outside to pick up the children and brought them inside the mansion, which was entirely empty for them since everyone was bound in the living room.
There was still one more person in the mansion that we hadn’t seen, but we knew where she was thanks to our "search" magic.
Once the thirty minutes of invisibility ran out, I asked Yoru to get out of my shadow and take care of the two kids for a moment.
Leslie and Yujun were afraid of my companion at first, but when he acted cute and playful with them, their fear was instantly gone.
Making our way through the hallway of the mansion, I took our wooden masks out of my void pocket and put them on before facing the noblewoman.
However, when we barged into her room, all we found was the lady lying in bed, sweating and breathing loudly from her mouth.
’What the-... This woman is ill...’ I thought.
"Wh-who’s there?" the woman asked weakly.
I didn’t know what to say at that moment. I mean, we barged in with the intention of scaring and threatening her, but this woman had one foot on the grave.
The lady turned her face slowly towards us and squinted her eyes to see us better.
"I see... You must be those masked kidnappers..." she muttered.
"Do you know us?" I asked.
The lady showed us a weak smile. "Mhmm, but the title of kidnapper doesn’t suit you... After all, you freed all those villagers..." said the lady with difficulty as her fever barely allowed her to move her lips.
Melina and I were standing in the middle of the room with our masks on, perplexed at the situation and the words that she uttered.
’Isn’t this the wife of the Military Chief? Is she against slavery?’ I pondered.
All of the enslaved villagers who worked inside the mansion looked ten times more healthy than the ones on the outskirts, so it didn’t seem like the woman had a tendency to abuse them.
I took off my mask and approached the sick woman, whose breathing only got louder, and pulled out a holy panacea from my void pocket.
She didn’t have enough strength even to ask what it was, so Melina helped me by holding the woman’s face as I gently poured the potion into her mouth.
As soon as it started making its effects, her breathing returned to normal, and her pale complexion regained some color, making her fall asleep on the spot.
"She must have been exhausted. A sickness like that makes it almost impossible to rest..." I said.
We didn’t want to tie up the noblewoman, but we also didn’t want to leave her unattended, so I asked Vespera to get out of my shadow and look after her.
When we returned to the children, they were sleeping on the ground, using Yoru’s body like a pillow and his tail as a blanket.
Honestly, it was a scene that would melt anyone’s heart, so I took out a piece of fabric from my void pocket and used my picture magic to take a photo of them, printing it on the white silk.
