Chapter 289: A Report to the Empress
Chapter 289: A Report to the Empress
After our long discussion with the warriors and the kidnapped nobles about our situation, we started devising the next part of our plan.
Now that we had Yushan Wu with us, the food supply of the nobles would be shortened. However, we wanted to stop it completely, so we had to come up with a plan to kidnap Wu’s father.
We needed to go to the capital, which was much further away than Xiulan and Liren, meaning that we wouldn’t be able to teleport to Yuandu straight from there.
However, we had our magic quartz with us, which would allow us to return as long as we had it all prepared.
The following day, we woke up a bit late since Melina and I were regaining all the hours of sleep we lost during our time in Xiulan.
We were staying in a small shack that we built ourselves since we didn’t want to take up a lot of space from the villagers, and we were so tired that we both fell asleep as soon as our bodies made contact with the soft fabric that Vespera left for us.
When I opened my eyes in the morning, I found Melina’s face less than 5 centimeters away from mine, making me blush for a moment before cuddling for a few more minutes.
Our next destination was the capital city of Guanghua, which, apparently, was the largest city in the world.
It was located to the east of Guanghua, and we were pretty far west, so it would take us one or two days to get there by flying.
Since Vespera, Nessa, and the two maids had been seen during their rampage in the town of Liren, we decided they would stay in Yuandu for some time.
"Once we arrive at the capital and find a good spot, we’ll place the magic quartz there..." I explained.
Even if it were just Melina and me who were going, we would be able to bring them as reinforcements later on, thanks to the magic quartz.
"I refuse!" said Vespera while crossing her arms.
"Okay? I know you like seeing new places and stuff, but this is your fault for letting people see you..." I replied, slightly scolding my companion.
"Tch, I’ll just stay in your shadow then!" Vespera scoffed, instantly using her weaving skills to enter my shadow.
"Alright, fine, but you can’t leave unless I ask you to..." I said.
[Understood!] said Vespera with telepathy, her tone sounding enthusiastic.

At the Guanghua Capital, inside the Red Palace, Emperor Xiaojun sat on his throne with poise and elegance.
He was a man in his mid-50s with long, dark hair tied into a bun with a regal ornament that looked like a flame crown.
His dark red robes had golden dragon patterns etched all over, matching the dragon heads that extruded from the back of his throne.
Sitting beside him, Empress Yulian looked even more elegant, as her beauty was enough to captivate anyone.
Her long, dark brown tresses cascaded down to her knees, and her red dress only highlighted her beauty even further.
The two had been called that morning to the throne room for an emergency notice, and as the royal servants arranged themselves in rows and bowed, the news carrier was allowed into the throne room.
A man seemingly older than the emperor entered the chambers wearing light armor with a pin that identified him as the Military Chief.
"Your Majesty, I’m sorry to bother you..." said the chief as he kneeled before them.
"That’s alright, Bao. We haven’t talked for a while..." the emperor replied with a casual tone.
Raising his head but staying on his knees, the chief rolled open a piece of papyrus and began reading its contents to the rulers.
"Over one thousand slaves have wholly disappeared from the city of Xiulan. We also confirmed the kidnapping of five nobles that were there..." Bao said, stopping for a moment as he noticed the emperor clenching his throne’s armrest.
"It seems it took them two nights to get everyone out, and the witnesses say they were two young individuals wearing masks..." Bao continued by naming the five nobles that had been taken.
The Military Chief, Bao, gave his input and said that the culprits seemed to be targeting prominent slave traders, to which the emperor scoffed with rage.
"Also, Lord Yifang has requested the Scarlet Trio to go to Xiulan and look into the matter. It seems like the nobles residing there have been unsettled ever since the attack..." the chief said.
"Hmm, fine. Send the Scarlet Trio to Xiulan and tell them to protect the nobles there at any cost!" the emperor exclaimed.
"No..." the empress muttered in an eerie tone.
From the moment that Chief Bao started talking, Empress Yulian stayed silent with a serious expression. However, when she raised her gaze, everyone in the room was frozen with fear.
"Keep the Scarlet Trio here in the capital and ask them to protect the families of the kidnapped..." Yulian said with a commanding tone.
The cunning empress could see through Ichiro’s plan, and she understood that they wouldn’t attack a city that had no slaves. But more than that, she could see why they had decided to kidnap Lord Yushan.
"Sinoc..." the empress called, raising her hand to the side.
From the shadows, a man with short, white hair materialized, instantly bowing to the empress.
"Yes, your majesty..." he said, awaiting his orders.
"Keep an eye on the old man from the Yushan family..." the empress said.
"As you wish," Sinoc replied, disappearing from everyone’s sight in an instant.
Still, Chief Bao’s report wasn’t over, and he followed up by stating that while that was happening in Xiulan, a group of people had openly attacked the nobles at Liren.
The news shocked both of the country’s rulers, as they couldn’t imagine that anyone would be arrogant enough to wage war against them.
However, the attackers at Liren weren’t wearing masks like the individuals at Xiulan, so they were able to sketch their appearances on wanted posters.
When Bao passed the four sketches to the empress, she clenched her teeth after seeing Nessa’s figure.
’This stupid girl!’ Yulian thought.
However, the emperor had his eyes on the other posters. "Beastkins!? In our country!? How dare they mess with MY people!?"
