Chapter 283: Night of Liberation (Part 1)
When talking to Mei Ling about the different families that were written on the document for the slave auction, she also told us about the Yushan family, who controlled most of the food transported in the country.
We asked her to give us directions to the homes of the Wang and Guo family, and after she tried her best to point at them from the window of the room, Melina and I left again from it.
The city was wholly empty, with not a single soul walking around, so Melina and I were able to fly a little lower without fear of being spotted by someone.
Our first target was the home of the guy called Guo Yang, supposedly best friends with Zhao Lan.
His mansion was as big as the Zhaos, but Ling told us that this was also not their main residence, as their family lived in the capital and only came here for business.
Taking down the guards at the entrance with ease, we teleported them to Yuandu and sneaked in by flying above the gate.
We could sense that there were more guards than in the previous mansion, and since we didn’t want to waste more time, Melina and I took them out as quickly as possible.
It took us a total of four minutes, give or take, but when the courtyards were clear, we flew to one of the rooms upstairs and broke in through the window.
We found ourselves in an empty bedroom, which we concluded was probably used by other family members when they visited the city.
When we opened the door to the hallway, I was startled for a moment after I noticed a suit of armor standing right next to me. However, it was just a decoration.
Still, when we looked ahead of the hallway, there were dozens of these armors placed around, which made the entire place look more creepy.
*whapish!* the sound of a cracking whip reached our ears.
’Oh no...’ I thought.
At that instant, Melina rushed to the door where the sound was coming from, so I quickly followed behind her.
"I told you to dance!" said the voice of a man.
*whapish!* another cracking of the whip echoed through the hallways.
Melina, reaching the door first, slammed it down using air magic and stood still for a few seconds as she scanned her surroundings.
I could feel Melina’s MP rising, but it was her own emotions that were making it so unstable.
"Who the hell are you!? Guards!" the man shouted.
He was wearing nothing but a pair of silky pants and the whip on his hands.
Beside him, two women wearing revealing dresses were kneeling on the ground, full of bruises and cuts that stained their fabrics with their blood.
’It’s over for this guy...’ I thought, knowing that Melina was about to go on a rampage again.
Still, I couldn’t blame her for it, so I just let her do whatever she wanted.
"Guards!" the man shouted again, raising his whip and waving it against Melina.
Without moving from her spot, Melina raised a hand and used air magic to create a concentrated slice of air that flew off and cut off the man’s hand before he could wave his arm down.
"Eh...?" he muttered as he looked down at his severed hand.
’This is the second arm that Melina takes today...’ I thought.
The man knelt on the ground and started whimpering from pain, holding the part of his arm that was still connected to him as if trying to stop the bleeding.
I slowly approached the man and used fire magic to cauterize the wound, making him yell in pain. Honestly, I didn’t care if he died from bleeding out, but we still needed to ask him some questions.
Melina, seemingly losing all of her interest in the man, quickly went to where the two girls were kneeling down and doused them with a healing potion, healing all of their fresh wounds.
Then, after she took out a few sheets from her void pocket and covered the two women, she teleported them to Yuandu, returning to the room in less than five seconds.
"Are you Guo Yang?" I asked, placing my mithril dagger against his neck.
The man had a tear rolling down his cheek from the pain of losing a hand but still nodded slightly, confirming his identity.
As we interrogated him, he told us that he kept all his slaves in his dungeon at night, so we asked him to take us to it.
Similar to Zhao Lan’s mansion, the entrance to the dungeon was hidden. However, the entrance was in the backyard, and after he pulled down a torch that was also a lever, a trap door opened up.
As soon as we entered, I noticed the same enchantment that blocked my search magic from before had also been placed in this dungeon.
’That Sinoc guy again...’ I thought.
Inside the dungeon, there were a total of 32 enslaved villagers, and 25 of them were young women.
From what the prisoners told us, Guo Yang had ordered to kill the husbands of the women before enslaving them.
Guo Yang, who was one of the most prominent slave traders in Guanghua, prided himself in being known as the one who sold the most beautiful women. Of course, this only made Melina even angrier.
After she gave a beating to Guo Yang in front of all the women he had tormented, we teleported them all to Yuandu and returned to take care of the slave trader.
We didn’t want to have our kidnapped nobles in different places, so we took the unconscious Guo Yang to the Zhao’s residence.
Yoru was keeping watch of Zhao Lan and her guard, and when we appeared in the center of the room and dumped the unconscious noble’s body on the floor, they got startled.
"Guo Yang!" Zhao exclaimed, still sitting on her bed where we left her.
Her face looked healed from Melina’s beating, which led us to believe that the guard had applied the potion we gave them.
"How dare you!?" Zhao Lan yelled.
Melina approached the arrogant woman with a severe expression.
*slap!* the sound echoed in the room as the back of Melina’s hand struck Zhao Lan, drawing a little blood from her mouth.
"Have you not learned? I wouldn’t mind beating you up again. This time, you won’t get any potions, though..." Melina muttered with anger, shutting her up until we left the room.
