My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 262: The Mages’ Tower
Chapter 262: The Mages’ Tower
After our group was let inside the tower, we were surprised to see plenty of mages walking around with large tomes in their hands.
Some of them were practicing inoffensive magic spells on one side, others were enthralled in whatever they were reading, and some just hastily walked around to their destinations.
The Mages Tower was the place where people who graduated from the academy would go if they wanted to keep improving their skills.
Of course, if someone who didn’t go to the academy showed up and still proved they had a high level of magic knowledge, they would also be allowed in.
It was the place where the "basic spell list" was created, which was the one I saw when I first arrived in this world that was written in Phelena’s tutorial book.
In other words, these guys made the rules when it came to magic.
Nessa told us that none of the devils were sent to conquer Balinesia since they knew it would be difficult with so many mages taking care of it, so we could at least not think about them suddenly attacking us.
I told Nessa that it was important for her to keep hiding her demonic energy until the day of the assembly, as pretty much everyone in that tower would be able to sense her in an instant.
My plan was to showcase Nessa’s power and introduce her as our devil ally during the meeting. It would be risky, but I thought it was the right thing to do.
The worst that could happen was that we would have to fight everyone in the tower. Still, that could have awful repercussions for the future of this world.
Nessa had invaluable information about the devils’ plans, and if the mages were as smart as they thought they were, they would see the benefits of having her on our side.
As we kept walking around the ground floor of the tower, we noticed they had an elevator, which was pretty surprising.
It didn’t work like a normal elevator with wire ropes that held it and moved it up or down. Instead, it had an intricate enchantment that made it go to the desired floor with magic.
’This was probably made by a reincarnator...’ I thought, noticing the inside of the elevator with the buttons were too similar to the ones in my past world.
There were 100 floors in the tower, and our rooms were located on floor 98, which was apparently the level where all sages and their servants slept.
The people in our group weren’t our "servants," but it was the terminology they used. If we called them "friends," they probably wouldn’t have been allowed inside.
As we walked on the corridor, looking for our rooms, I heard someone calling us from behind.
"Ichiro, Melina!"
"Headmaster Devon!" I replied, turning back and seeing him waving at us, accompanied by another old man.
"Hah, you guys made it, and with time to spare!" Devon said.
"Yeah, we had an interesting encounter on our way here..." I replied.
"Oh, is that right? I want you to tell me all about it, but first, let me introduce you guys to Sage Louie," said Devon, pointing at the man beside him.
Sage Louie was the headmaster at the academy in Vista, and he had been good friends with Sage Devon since they studied together.
Devon took a boat from Sephyr to Vista, where he met with his friend, and then they came to Balinesia together.
They had arrived three days before us, so they had been giving lectures and a few lessons while they waited for the day of the meeting.
"Ichiro, you should do a few lectures for the mages here. That way, they’ll get to know you more before the assembly..." suggested Devon.
As always, Headmaster Devon had a great idea.
I was about to try to convince the strongest mages in the world that some devils were our allies, so if they didn’t know who I was, it wouldn’t have an impact on them. If anything, they would reject my words even faster.
"I’ll do it. But, umm... Where do I go?" I asked.
The two sages chuckled as they had forgotten it was my first time at the tower and said that they would take care of it and talk to the organizers.
After our little talk, we all went to our designated rooms, which were three rooms next to each other that were connected by a door on the inside. Basically, it was three rooms in one.
At nighttime, we went to the 100th floor after Devon recommended it. It was fully covered in glass, giving us a 360-degree view of everything around the tower.
We could see the swamp extending all the way to the east and the place they called "Blue Field" to the west, which wasn’t actually blue.
However, at night, the entire field had these small flowers that would glow with the moonlight, giving it a pretty blue hue.
To the north, a small town could be seen in the distance, and to the south, more of the blue field and part of the ocean.
Don’t get me wrong, we were pretty far from the sea, but we were so high up in the tower that we could still see it.
"Ichi... I’m kinda worried..." said Melina as we both looked at the sight from the tower.
"About?" I asked, knowing that there were multiple things that could be bothering her.
"Mostly about Guanghua. After we helped those people coming here, I almost wanted to go back to their country to look for the devil..." she said.
"Honestly, I’ve been feeling the same... Still, we can’t be too hasty," I replied.
"I know, I know. I just want to be able to travel with you without worrying about these types of things..." Melina continued.
"Any time I travel with you, I feel like I’m having so much fun and living my life to the fullest, so I want to be able to do that for a long time. Ehh, if you want, of course!" Melina said, her face blushing and her voice getting louder from embarrassment.
*pfft* "Ahahahaha!" I laughed wholeheartedly with small tears of joy.
"Sounds good to me. Let’s make sure we can travel around the world without any inconvenience then!" I said, holding her hand with a smile.
’Each day, Melina resembles her old self more and more...’ I thought, clenching her hand and giving her a kiss on the cheek with the sight of the blue field beside us.
