My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 259: The Luckiest Immigrants

Chapter 259: The Luckiest Immigrants

During our stay in Eldariel, my group used the elven railway to visit other settlements, with Princess Eve as our tour guide.

I ended up making more glasses for some of the residents, and Melina used magic to help fix some deteriorated homes and buildings.

It was pretty relaxing to be there, as it genuinely felt like the safest place in the world.

Knowing that nothing could cross the veil was the biggest reassurance we could have when exploring their nation, and after a few days of enjoying ourselves, it was time for us to keep moving.

We left a magic quartz inside their castle after I explained to the chief how it worked, which would allow us to teleport there in an instant from anywhere in the world.

After a large group of elves accompanied us to the border with the veil to say their thanks and goodbyes, Darfin recommended I take a specific path, saying it was the shortest route to Balinesia.

We had to cross the Lunar Forest to get there, but the path that he pointed at would lead us to their border in a few days by walking.

Thankfully, we were flying, so the time it would take us to get there was reduced to one day and a half.

I didn’t know much about Balinesia, except that the mages at the tower were pretty much the ones who governed it.

They had a king, but I remember hearing someone saying that the monarchs were chosen by the sages in the tower, so those guys had the most power at the end of the day.

Sage Devon told me that, apart from the three sages who were the headmasters of the academies, there was a fourth one who was the headmaster of the tower.

The rest of the people who worked at the tower were mages who hadn’t obtained the title of sage, but that was pretty much all I knew about them.

After a few hours of flying, we spotted a group of people walking in the forest in the direction of Balinesia.

It was a convoy of at least fifteen individuals with women and children holding backpacks.

Before I could even tell my group about it, Melina was already descending to their location.

The people were understandably startled after seeing us coming down from the sky, but when Melina sweetly asked them where they were going, a little kid answered that they were going to Balinesia.

It turned out that all the people there were Guanghua citizens who decided to test their luck, and instead of trying to immigrate north to Kyotora, they went south through the easy border into the Lunar Forest.

The Guanghua Kingdom had barely any guards or security on their southern border since they knew that most people wouldn’t dare go into the Lunar Forest, and even if they did, the chances of them getting to another nation alive were low.

Nonetheless, this group of people was so fed up with their situation that they decided to risk their lives than keep living like trash.

After we introduced ourselves to the families, we decided we would escort them to Balinesia as we were already pretty close to their border.

It’s not like we could just leave them there, especially if we were able to help them easily.

Only three of the men in the group had weapons with them, so it was honestly impressive that they managed to get so far with so few resources and protection.

We also noticed that most of them had wounds and bruises from their perilous trail, making us pull out some potions to heal them and regain their vitality.

Out of curiosity, I asked one of the men carrying a sword if they had any strange encounters in the forest.

However, he explained that they believed that a powerful monster had been messing with other beasts and cleared their way during nighttime.

’No way... So, thanks to Salamandra killing everything around him, these guys barely got to see any beasts...’ I thought.

This group of people could have been considered some of the luckiest people in the world, as they were the only ones who benefited from Salamandra’s presence. Still, we kept those details from them.

To make them feel more comfortable around us, we told them that Melina and I were sages who were going to the assembly, making them sigh with relief.

At one point, we stopped with the convoy so they could rest, and I flew up into the sky to check how much longer we had to walk.

’Hmm, if we keep this pace, we could make it there by nighttime...’ I thought as I looked into the distance.

I wasn’t sure if they would feel more comfortable walking in the dark and getting there faster or if they preferred to set up a camp and finish it the following day.

When I descended back down, I told them of their options, and the convoy all agreed that they wanted to leave the forest as soon as possible and would keep on walking.

They had already spent a little over three weeks in the forest, so it was safe to say that they were fed up with it.

Once our rest was over, they all kept pushing and walking towards the nation of Balinesia with my group escorting them.

Thankfully, Vespera and Yoru’s presence deterred any wild animal or beast from getting close to us, making our travels in the forest quite peaceful.

After the dark of the night shrouded the forest, our group kept walking along with the convoy of immigrants for a few more hours until we were out of the woods.

Finding ourselves on a field with small hills, the massive border walls of Balinesia were visible in the distance.

From what we were told by one of the men, Balinesia was taking in all immigrants from Guanghua, the same as Kyotora.

Of course, they weren’t used to receiving many people as most of them didn’t dare to cross the Lunar Forest.

"Almost all Guanghua immigrants in Balinesia were merchants who used their job as a means to escape. But then, the emperor banned all trading, so not even the merchants could get away..." one of the men explained.

’As soon as this assembly is over, I’ll focus my attention on Guanghua...’
