Chapter 246: Elves’ Secret Password

Chapter 246: Elves’ Secret Password

After Salamandra retreated from the beating my group was giving him, I reunited with the elves who were in the trees watching the exchange.

They were all unscathed from the monster, which was a good thing, and when Darfin approached me, I thought he would be thanking our group.

"I’m going to have to ask you people to leave this area. It’s not safe..." the elf commander said.

"Huh?"

"I’m saying. Salamandra will return sooner or later to attack us again, so it’s best if you leave." Darfin continued.

"Darfin. Are you some sort of dumbass?" I asked, making the elf widen his eyes with indignation.

"A wha-...?"

"You just saw us fighting the monster to the point where his master had to come to pick him up, and you are asking us to leave?" I asked.

"If you people die here, there is no telling what the humans will try to do to us next!" he exclaimed.

’Oh, I get it. He is scared that if one of us dies here, the people in other countries might believe it was the elves who did it...’

"Look, Darfin. Nobody here is planning on dying. We are hunting devils, and we know now that there is one close by. We are not leaving the forest, and we are not letting the elves fight them alone. Understand?" I said with confidence.

Darfin glanced at the rest of my group, who nodded proudly, confirming my words.

The elf commander let out a sigh of defeat and closed his eyes in reflection. "We cannot let you inside the country, though. Even if I wanted to..." he said.

"Well, we weren’t asking to enter the country, but I’m pretty sure we could have entered without problems," I replied.

"What? Do you even know what I’m talking about? Our entire nation is protected by a veil that rejects any non-elf from crossing it." Darfin explained.

However, I already knew that since I read it in one of Kyoko’s journals in Kyotora.

"I know the secret password, so I think we can enter. I’ve never tried it, though..." I elaborated.

Darfin looked even more shocked, saying that nobody had used the password to cross the veil in hundreds of years and that they thought it had been lost forever.

At first, we weren’t planning on stopping by the elves’ nation since I thought that we could stay in our forest base and hunt Salamandra from there.

However, the monster’s attack took place near the border with the veil that protected their nation, which led me to believe that Drakzen was trying to do something inside.

If they were planning to attack a specific area, then it would be better for us to be there when that happened.

After we agreed to go with the elves, we walked for two hours under the moonlight until we left the densely tree-populated area.

We ended up arriving at a small, burnt-out field, which was curious since we could see the exact point where the veil divided the land.

’I see. Salamandra burned the entire front of the veil, but his fire couldn’t go past it...’ I thought, noticing how the black scorched earth was perfectly green on the other side of the veil.

"This is where the veil starts. I cannot bring you past this point..." said Darfin before stepping to the other side of the veil.

The rest of the elves followed him, and I saw them talking to each other, but no sound could be heard.

"I see. This veil even blocks the sound from both sides. Not even my sound magic can go through..." I said to my group.

I stood before the veil and inhaled, ready to say the password, but Vespera stopped me.

"One moment, Ichiro..." she muttered, holding onto my shoulder.

"What’s wrong...?" I asked as I used my "search" spell simultaneously.

I couldn’t sense anything, but Vespera had her eyes set in one direction, and I knew she wouldn’t be overreacting if it wasn’t something dangerous.

"I could have sworn I felt something there... Stay sharp." my companion said.

If there really was someone watching us, I couldn’t go ahead and say the password that had been a secret for hundreds of years, so we had to make sure that nobody could listen.

"I’ll go check..." Gina said.

"No. Stay here. They won’t be able to listen anyways..." I quickly replied.

I asked my group to gather closer to me as we stood beside the veil. Then, I cast sound magic to create a dome around us, making everything we said unable to leave the sphere.

"Now, nobody outside this small area can hear us..." I said.

"Quendalas, Edraith."

Speaking the words that were written in Kyoko’s book, the veil glowed for a second, making us a bit excited. However, it looked the same right after the reaction.

"Did it work...?" I asked myself as I stepped one foot into the veil and crossed it.

The rest of my group followed, and our bodies easily went through the barrier without a hitch, leaving the elves on the other side who were waiting for us completely perplexed.

It was the first time in hundreds of years that someone who wasn’t an elf crossed into their territory, so it was expected for them to be surprised.

"I must confess. I thought you were bluffing..." Darfin said, his eyes still widened in surprise.

"Heh, I’m not much of a liar..." I jokingly commented.

The elf commander told us that the nearest settlement was not far from our location and asked us to follow him.

It was somewhat relieving to be inside the elves’ nation, knowing that nothing dangerous could cross the protective barrier.

Still, I slowly started to realize that we would have to explain how we found the password to whoever was in charge.

It’s not that I didn’t trust the elves, but I didn’t really know them, apart from Eve.

’First, let’s try to figure out their intentions and see if they are trustworthy...’ I thought.

After walking for 45 minutes, we reached the first elven settlement called "Silverleaf," where most of the elf hunters gathered to prepare to leave the veil into the Lunar
