My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 241: The Lunar Forest
Chapter 241: The Lunar Forest
The following morning, after spending the night at Yuandu, Melina and I did our routine of enchanting their homes and giving them supplies and trinkets.
Contrary to the no-name settlements we saw before, Yuandu had at least 120 residents, which at that point could have been considered a small village.
Nisa and Tony told us that we were half a day away from the border with the Lunar Forest to the south, but that was if we went on foot. Flying would make it a few hours at most.
I told the members of DD to keep a low profile. Considering we attacked a soldiers’ convoy the previous day, the guards would most likely try to investigate the area.
After we were done, we kept moving south towards Balinesia.
However, there was still one large area we had to cross to get there, which was the Lunar Forest, the place where Yoru was from.
I had heard about the Lunar Forest a long time ago when I first met Triana in Glorya, who explained that moonwolves like Yoru could only be found there.
It had always been a mystery to us how Yoru and his parents got to End Forest, which was on a completely different continent.
My companion said he couldn’t remember well, as his memories showed his parents running away from a monster and suddenly appearing there.
My theory was that they had somehow teleported, but I couldn’t be too sure about it.
I mean, the only way that we had to travel between continents in an instant was using the magic quartz, so thinking that they just cast a teleportation spell that took them that far was hard to believe.
While we were flying there, I asked Vespera if she knew anything about the Lunar Forest, thinking that it might have some sort of weird effect like the Illusive Forest.
Nonetheless, she explained that, in that sense, it resembled more End Forest, our home.
"You see, End Forest has a lot of monsters, which come from the devils’ energy. The Lunar Forest is similar, except there are more beasts than monsters, which are linked to Garon..." Vespera elaborated.
"There were no living beings other than plants in the Illusive Forest since it could affect everyone..." she continued.
"The way you put it, it sounds as if the Lunar Forest is the safest of the three..." I said.
"Hmm, well, it’s not that it’s safer, but we have less probability of getting randomly attacked by the beasts than by monsters. Especially with us here!" Vespera exclaimed proudly.
Even though she said it in a somewhat playful manner, Vespera had a good point.
We were going into a forest that was mainly dominated by beasts, so having a Legendary Beast in our party would deter any wild one from attacking us.
Still, while there were lower chances of getting attacked by beasts, in the event that we did, they would be much stronger than the monsters at End Forest.
That’s what Vespera meant when she said it wasn’t "safer" since if we had to defend ourselves, it wouldn’t be as simple as fighting the monsters we were used to.
A few hours later, we reached the southern border of Guanghua and noticed that their security was very lax, with barely any soldiers standing guard.
Most borders were marked by walls to separate their territories, but the Guanghua Kingdom had a simple barrier that could have easily been climbed or destroyed by a beast.
Their northern border wasn’t the same, as they had not only taller and sturdier walls but also dozens of soldiers standing guard.
"They probably think that nobody will be crazy enough to escape to the Lunar Forest..." Melina said.
"Yeah, that makes sense. People who want to escape would definitely go to the northern border and try entering Kyotora rather than coming to the forest..." I said.
After we passed the borders and traveled far enough so that nobody from Guanghua could see us, we descended down into the forest to explore for a bit.
This wasn’t our destination, but we still had a month before the Sage’s Assembly took place in Balinesia, and seeing that we were in a completely new area piqued our curiosity.
Honestly, I wanted to see if we could find any new alchemy materials or some sort of new mineral that I didn’t know about, so I used my "search" spell to look for anything interesting around us.
The forest was primarily covered in tall pine trees, and the Lunar Mountains were visible in the distance all the way to the east.
Although spring had just started, the temperature felt somewhat cold still, but the enchantments on our clothes kept us perfectly warm.
Out of pure curiosity, I inspected one of the pine trees.
<Lunar Pine
Fourth sturdiest wood in the world.
Sap is infused with the moon’s energy and can be used in alchemy.>
"Fourth sturdiest? That’s cool... But what’s this about the sap?" I commented.
It said it could be used in alchemy and that it was infused with the moon’s energy, which sounded logical, considering it was a "Lunar Pine."
"Although, what use is there for the moon’s energy? Apart from maybe boosting our moon magic affinity...?" I pondered out loud.
No one in my group seemed to know either, so I decided to get some of the sap and find out for myself.
Using earth magic, I created a small iron drill, a tube, and a bucket.
After sticking the drill in an upward angle against the trunk, I removed it and placed the tube in the hole, pointing the tip at the bucket on the ground.
Surprisingly, the liquid that came out wasn’t the usual amber-colored substance that all trees had. Instead, it had different shades of blue and aquamarine that glowed in the dark.
Once two buckets had been filled up, I inspected the glowing sap.
<Lunar Pine Sap
It can be used in alchemy.
Possesses a very high amount of the moon’s energy.>
"That did not help at all..." I said with a bit of disappointment.
I felt glad that I found a new material for alchemy, but the vagueness of the information was a bit frustrating.
Still, I sent the buckets to Reinar and Jen using the delivery tablet and a voice message, explaining where we got the sap from and asking them to research it.
