My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 221: Heated Semi-Finals

Chapter 221: Heated Semi-Finals

After Yuki defeated her brother, she ascended to the next phase of the tournament, meaning she wouldn’t have to fight until the next day.

Takeo was sent to the infirmary, where fighters were given healing potions for their injuries as he ended up pretty beat up.

By the end of the second day, the fighters from our team that had made it to the final phase were Keiko, Lucas, Florencia, Yuki, Eve, Enzo, Larry, and Sonia.

Out of ten, we still had eight that had made it, so we were feeling pretty good about ourselves that night when celebrating.

I also invited Nessa to eat with us after I saw her trying to leave the arena alone. Of course, I didn’t tell anyone about her secret, so they just thought that she was an ordinary martial artist.

The other people who knew about Jackson were Melina and my companions, so convincing people that some devils were pretty cool wouldn’t be an easy feat.

While Melina and I walked back to our room for the chaperones, she inquired about Nessa’s true identity, saying that she knew I wouldn’t have invited her to join us for nothing.

At that moment, I showed her the relic bracelet and how it kept pointing down to the rooms where the combatants were staying.

I concluded that the relic was a tracker for devils, and while I wasn’t sure if that was its only use, I knew for a fact that it definitely pointed toward the devils’ locations.

"So, that Nessa girl is a devil...?" Melina asked, somewhat calm for the type of question it was.

After confirming her suspicion, I told her about the deal I made with her about stopping her fight if I felt the slightest demonic energy coming out of her body, and Melina seemed happy with my decision.

The following morning, the fighters woke up earlier than usual to warm up before having breakfast.

The arena slowly filled up to capacity once again, and when all preparations were done, the final day of the Combat World Tournament began.

Each competitor would have to win two more fights to reach the final, but as the number of fighters had dwindled down dramatically for the past two days, it wouldn’t take as long.

Yuki ended up fighting Enzo on their first fight of the day, and the black-haired princess managed to come out victorious.

Larry and Sonia, the two third-years, fought against each other, and while it was a great fight, Larry barely came out as the winner.

In the end, it was our own team that was eliminating itself since our group had the most fighters in the last phase.

For the semi-finals, Yuki and Keiko had to fight each other for a spot in the final, while Lucas had to fight Nessa, who managed to climb all the way without using magic.

The hidden devil was responsible for eliminating Eve and Larry, but it’s not like we held it against her or anything. It was a competition, after all.

I was chosen to be the referee for the last fights, with Yuki and Keiko going first.

Both of their families were present at the tournament, and their relationship with them was pretty similar.

Keiko had lost her mother when she was a baby, so the new queen of Lotus, her stepmother, always neglected her and ended up convincing the king that she wasn’t fit to rule the nation.

On the other hand, Yuki’s mother was still alive, but she was treated just as badly as her other family members, who weren’t part of the direct bloodline of the current queen.

They both wanted to prove themselves to their families, but in my eyes, they had already done so. Still, the resolve in their eyes was palpable in the whole stadium.

As their fight began, the two moved quickly around the arena, avoiding the opponent’s attacks and countering with their own.

No words were spoken when they cast their spells, which made me proud as their teacher, and I could hear the spectators praising them for their skills.

It was the longest and most destructive fight of the tournament, lasting for over twenty minutes and leaving most of the arena’s platform in shambles.

I noticed that Keiko was running out of MP, and as she cast her last spell, she lost consciousness, leaving Yuki as the winner.

After I fixed up the destroyed arena with magic, Lucas and Nessa were called out for their match.

Lucas had grown a lot after he started training with me, but I wasn’t entirely sure how he would fare against Nessa’s raw strength.

Lots of people in the crowd were rooting for her, and I could see why, honestly.

If I hadn’t been part of the tournament and came as a spectator, I would have probably rooted for the pink-haired girl who was competing with no magic.

People love an underdog, and having someone beating mages with her own hands wasn’t something people got to witness very often, if ever.

When the battle started, Nessa launched herself face-first toward Lucas, who raised a row of earth walls to stop her movement.

Nonetheless, Nessa’s raw powers allowed her to break the walls with her fists, and while she had slowed down her advance, she was still moving forward.

Surprisingly, Lucas covered his arm with rocks using magic and blocked Nessa’s punch that was aimed at his face, countering with a wave of fire using his other arm.

As the minutes passed by, they kept relentlessly attacking each other non-stop.

Lucas was bleeding from his mouth and nose, while Nessa had a wound on her head, letting out a trail of blood that dripped down the side of her face.

Nonetheless, they were still full of energy and vigor, not paying attention to their injuries as the intensity of their encounter rose.

I was starting to get a bit nervous since Lucas was pushing Nessa to her limit, but I lost focus for a brief moment when I felt the relic bracelet moving.

In that quick second, I noticed the obsidian arrow that kept pointing at Nessa turned abruptly to the opposite side of her.

’Huh?’ I thought, widening my eyes with surprise.

However, just as quickly as it pointed to the opposite side, it returned to its normal state of pointing at Nessa.
