Chapter 218: Mysterious Pink-Haired Girl (Part 2)

While the first day of the tournament continued, I went to the seats where Melina and my companions were and sat beside them to watch the rest of the fights.

At one point, the girl with the pink hair stepped up against a man who was two times her size, making my bracelet react instantly as soon as she walked into the arena.

Melina, noticing the obsidian arrow floating and gently pulling my arm, asked if it was pointing north again.

"It’s not... It’s pointing at that girl." I replied.

"What does that mean?" she asked.

Still, I had no idea what it meant, so I told her that I was trying to figure it out.

As a test, I took off the bracelet and gave it to Melina to see if it reacted the same way, and sure enough, it did.

Just as she put it on, the obsidian arrow began floating and pointing at the pink-haired girl at the arena.

"So, it always points at the same thing, no matter who wears it..." I muttered.

Melina was looking at the girl intently, suddenly widening her eyes.

"Ichi, that girl has no MP... Or like, she does, but very little..." Melina commented, confused about what she was feeling.

"Yeah, I felt that too. You know who it reminds me of?" I asked.

"Jackson...?" she answered with another question.

I nodded, confirming her thoughts, which only made us a bit more nervous.

Jackson used to be a devil called Jaterno, just like Armaros and Zagor. However, contrary to them, he never cared about conquering the world.

Instead, he wanted to live as a human with the rest, so he renounced his demonic powers to become human.

Still, devils couldn’t just "renounce" their powers, so it was more like a verbal agreement for the devil, where they would decide to hide their demonic energy and never use it.

Even if their lives were in danger, Jackson would rather die as a human than live as a devil.

The reason why Jackson barely used any magic when he was with us was because devils had low MP pools, as their magic was all based on their demonic energy, leaving him to rely more on his physical prowess.

"I used my hidden inspect spell on her before. Her MP doesn’t even go above two thousand..." I commented to the princess.

"Hmmm..." she pondered out loud, placing a hand on her chin.

A few seconds later, the match between Nessa and her opponent started, making the princess and I shut ourselves up as we watched her closely.

The burly man ran straight towards her, wanting to tackle her out of the arena. Nonetheless, his massive body was stopped in his tracks as soon as he reached Nessa.

The girl, who had placed her palms in front of her to block the man’s advance, was strong enough to make him struggle as he tried to push her.

With a swift step to the side, Nessa moved and kicked the man in the ribs, pushing him to the side of the arena.

We were pretty high up from the show, so I used sound magic to listen to the fighters.

"How are you this strong!?" the man exclaimed as he held the side of his torso in pain.

Right at that moment, the man cast an earth spell that shattered part of the arena, hurling large rocks at Nessa.

Nonetheless, the pink-haired girl quickly avoided them as she approached her opponent, giving him a final punch in the gut that sent him out of bounds.

During the entire encounter, Nessa didn’t use a sliver of magic, which would have been impressive if we weren’t suspicious of her.

By the time the sunset arrived, the first day of the tournament had concluded.

After all combatants rested, they were brought to a massive room where a feast was waiting for them, congratulating them for making it to the next phase.

I was hanging out with my students, who were quite happy with their performance as all ten of them won their battles.

However, I noticed the pink-haired girl leaving the feast a bit earlier than the others and decided to follow her using an invisibility potion.

When she made it to the back entrance, which was the one that the participants used, she told the guards she was going to take a walk to relax, and they allowed her.

Fighters had different ways of preparing for their next fight. Some liked to meditate in their rooms in silence, others like going on walks, so it wasn’t strange for a participant to ask for time to wander around.

I left through the same entrance while invisible, making the guards unaware of my presence.

The back entrance led to a park with some cherry blossom trees and a stone path that went around the garden.

Supposedly, it was a famous spot for travelers to visit, known as the Ryuken Garden.

Nessa walked towards one of the cherry blossom trees, with the leaves almost matching her vibrant pink hair, and sat under it, placing her face between her knees.

She seemed sad. Although she wasn’t crying, I could feel a sense of solitude coming from her, which reminded me of myself.

Every participant in the contest had a friend or two with them, and it was evident during the feast that many of them knew each other from past tournaments.

However, this girl had been alone the entire time, and I couldn’t help but feel pity for her.

I waited a moment for my invisibility to turn off, making me appear behind a tree so I wouldn’t just pop up in front of her.

"Hey there..." I said, startling her momentarily as she looked up at me.

"Oh, ref. Everything okay?" she asked softly.

I had brought the relic bracelet with me, and the closer I got to Nessa, the harder it pulled my arm towards her, almost desperately.

"I’m fine, but I needed to ask you some questions..." I replied.

"Oh, sure..." she said nervously, switching her gaze back down.

Putting one knee on the ground so I could be closer to her level, I looked straight at her purple eyes.

"Tell me. Nessa... Who are you?"
