My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 216: Combat World Tournament
Chapter 216: Combat World Tournament
When there were two days left for the tournament to begin, the last participants arrived at the capital, with most of them being students from the academy at Vista.
We were introduced to Lucas and Florencia’s older sister, who was two years older than her twin siblings and seemed ecstatic to meet with them.
I asked Yoru to keep an eye on Takeo to make sure that he wasn’t doing anything weird again, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that he hadn’t left the Ryuken Arena since our encounter the previous day.
The sign-ups for new participants closed down, and all combatants were staying the night at the arena, preparing themselves.
On the last day of preparations, I was called to a meeting with Headmaster Lang and the rest of the referees and organizers.
In the meeting, we discussed the rules and our schedules for the next three days, which was the duration of the tournament.
That same night, as I was walking to my room, I felt something moving on my wrist and noticed that the relic bracelet was moving again, just as it did back in the ship.
I was on the third floor of the building, and the obsidian arrow that dangled from the bracelet was pointing down, slightly pulling my arm.
’Is it telling me to go down?’ I pondered.
The first time that the bracelet reacted to something, it pointed straight north, so I thought that it could be some sort of compass that Alejandro used thousands of years ago.
However, seeing it point straight downward made me change my mind, as it was obviously trying to guide me to something else.
When I went down the stairs, the arrow slowly moved and began pointing forward along the halls of the Ryuken Arena.
I was on the second floor, where all the combatants were staying in their rooms, and as I kept walking, it suddenly turned to point at one of the doors.
’Hmmm, is there something in here?’ I pondered, but I couldn’t just walk to the room without permission, especially since several people were supposed to be inside.
At that moment, the lightbulb on top of my head lit up with an idea, and I opened my void pocket to get one of the prototype invisibility potions that I had gotten from Reinar.
I tried to use sound magic to listen inside the room, but it seemed like everyone was sleeping. Still, that only made it easier for me to sneak in after drinking the potion.
As soon as I took a few sips, my vision turned blueish, as if a camera filter had been layered in front of my eyes. Nonetheless, I understood that it was the potion’s effects, so I didn’t overthink it.
When I slowly opened the door and walked inside the room, utterly invisible in case anyone was awake, all I saw were participants sleeping soundly on their beds.
The arrow kept pointing forward, making me realize that it was guiding me outside of the building. Still, I saw an unoccupied bed, which was suspicious since I knew that all of them had been taken.
At that moment, one of the sleeping fighters started to move, and even though I was invisible, I still panicked a little and decided to leave the room for the time being.
By the time I returned to my room, the bracelet had stopped moving.
*sigh* "I guess I’ll find out what you do soon enough..." I muttered to myself as I stared at the bracelet before falling asleep.

The following morning, it was the day for the tournament to begin, and the arena was slowly getting filled with spectators.
One interesting thing I saw was Headmaster Lang casting a spell on a giant crystal that he placed on top of the building overlooking the arena.
I was curious to know what it was, so I flew up to talk to him and asked him about it.
"This is called a ’magic quartz.’ It can transmit magic to other quartz that had been attuned to it..." he explained.
One of the spells that Headmaster Lang had developed to become a sage was something he called "Visual Transmitter."
The way it worked was simple. He used the magic quartz to connect them to each other with magic and sent them to different nations.
Then, during the tournament, he would cast his "visual transmitter" spell on it, and the rest of the connected crystals would receive the signal, allowing them to watch the tournament matches in real-time.
’Basically, this guy invented live television...’ I thought.
When I asked who possessed the other crystals, he told me that pretty much every nation had one, except for the Guanghua Kingdom, the Northern Empire, and Kalusia, which had been freed not too long ago, so Lang never had a chance to send them one.
I didn’t know it at the time, but in Sephyr, the entire capital had gathered around the central plaza to watch the tournament after Devon enlarged the transmission to turn it into what seemed like a giant screen.
A few hours later, still early in the morning, the arena was packed with spectators, and the visual transmission to other countries started as Headmaster Lang gave a speech.
Thankfully, I wasn’t the first referee of the day, so I got to watch a veteran do it before it was my turn.
One of the first fights of the day was Enzo against a student from Vista, which ended in just a few minutes after Enzo used fire magic to propel his movement and used his sword to push the other fighter out of bounds.
After other combatants had their turns, Florencia went up to the arena against a man who was three times her size.
Her opponent was a graduate student from Kyotora, which made the spectators in the stands discuss whether it was okay for a girl to be fighting such a big guy.
Nonetheless, the match was over in a few seconds after Florencia used earth magic to trap the man and buried him under the arena, leaving only his head outside to breathe.
’Anyone who gambled against Florencia must be regretting it right about now...’ I thought.
