My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 210: Sailing to Kyotora

Chapter 210: Sailing to Kyotora

After the team that would be competing had been decided, a few more days of preparations went by, and before we knew it, the day for us to leave for Port Town Blue had arrived.

The students who were participating, along with the chaperone teachers, were taking a boat at the port town that would take five days to reach Kyotora.

We were also supposed to take several carriages from the capital all the way to Port Town Blue, which would have been a three-day ride.

Nonetheless, Melina and I used our teleport spell to bring everyone there in an instant and skip the long ride.

Of course, we weren’t able to take them straight to Kyotora. Not only was it extremely far from us, but we also hadn’t been there before.

While the students boarded the caravel that would take us to the eastern continent, the headmaster called Melina and me to give a few words.

He expressed that the reason why he was sending the two of us was because we were both sages like him, and he felt that we would make the right decisions in case any sort of emergency happened.

"Headmaster, are you expecting something to happen during the tournament?" I asked.

"I would rather expect something bad is going to happen and be ready for it..." he replied.

Devon was still somewhat stressed after our encounter with the devil, which was understandable, considering he was responsible for the safety of a bunch of kids.

I gave the headmaster a voice crystal in case we needed to communicate urgently and boarded the boat with Melina and my companions.

This time, Gina and Carli were coming with us too, as we thought that having more protection for the students wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Of course, my companions also joined the trip, and they seemed pretty excited to travel to another continent.

During our first day on the sea, I spotted Gunther on the rails looking ill and realized that he was seasick. Fortunately, I gave him a holy panacea, and it worked.

I didn’t know if it would have any effect, but I was pretty glad knowing that it could cure it.

The quarters where we were sleeping were quite nice. I was expecting bunk beds made of rope, but they ended up having futons laid out individually for everyone.

’I suppose these must come from Kyotora...’ I thought as I lay on my futon.

On the second day of sailing, I was hanging out at the tip of the boat, soaking in the fresh ocean wind with Melina by my side.

Suddenly, I felt something moving against my wrist, and when I checked it, I noticed it was the relic bracelet.

For whatever reason, the obsidian arrow that dangled from it started floating and slightly tugging my arm forward as if it were trying to guide me somewhere.

Of course, the force of the bracelet wasn’t strong enough to make me move my arm even an inch, but it kept on pointing and tugging to one side of the boat.

"It’s pointing north..." Melina said as we both watched the bracelet curiously floating and pointing straight in one cardinal direction.

However, we were going east, so whatever the bracelet wanted us to see, we would be leaving behind soon. Still, it was the first time we had seen the relic react to anything.

Wanting to know more, we paid a visit to the navigator of the caravel and asked what was up north from here.

"North? If we were to turn right now, we would be on our way to the Northern Empire..." the navigator replied.

’Hmm, was the relic pointing at the Northern Empire or something else...?’ I pondered.

The bracelet kept moving for a few hours until it finally returned to its dormant state, but my questions about its uses only kept growing.

’Maybe I’ll have to travel north? Was that what it wanted me to do?’ I kept wondering.

On the third day of sailing, Melina and I were hanging out at the back of the boat, looking at the waves we left behind with bored expressions.

"Hey, Ichi..." Melina said, her chin posed against her hands, leaning on the rail with boredom.

"Yeah...?"

"Couldn’t we use water magic to propel the boat and make it go faster...?" she asked, keeping her unamused face while staring at the water.

"Ummm... maybe?" I replied.

After a brief moment of silence, we both abruptly turned our faces to look at each other, our eyes widened and brimming with excitement at her new plan.

Honestly, I didn’t know why I hadn’t thought of something like that before, but using water magic to propel the boat was a simple task. Still, before doing anything, we asked the navigator if it was alright.

At the end of the day, he was the one who knew the waters better than us, so I thought there could have been a reason why the boat wasn’t going any faster.

Nonetheless, the navigator looked confused, thinking that it wouldn’t even be possible, but the man didn’t know much about magic, so it was easier to show him than explain it to him.

When we returned to the back of the boat, Melina and I focused our magic on the ocean currents, making them turn to our advantage while propelling the ship.

We weren’t going super fast like a speed-race boat or something, but it was at least double the speed from before.

The navigator simply laughed in disbelief. "I’ve seen many things in my life. But I realize I’m not even close to witnessing them all..." he said.

A few minutes later, I called the other students to the back of the boat so they could do the same, realizing that it was an excellent exercise for magic control.

Splitting the group into pairs, they all had to propel the boat and control the currents for an hour before switching with the next team.

Thanks to that, we were able to get some last-minute training and also decreased the time of our travels by one day.

On the fourth day, we arrived early to the nation of Kyotora.
