Chapter 125: The Sultan of Aridonia
After Vespera and Gina arrived at the inn, they asked me about the five people I had taken with me, so I explained to them that I had found out who the leader of the bandit gang was.
Vespera informed me that she had seen a mansion where she felt a lot of people inside, which turned out to be the place where they were keeping the kidnapped victims, but there was no way for her to know that at the time.
Gina said she had seen a pair of people with the same white hoods walking around, but after she tailed them for a few minutes, she deduced they weren’t a threat, which was incorrect.
Since we didn’t have any information as to when they were moving the victims, I thought it would be best for us to free them all that same night. However, I still needed to meet with the sultan to make sure that he wasn’t part of the Sand Cobras.
The bandit I captured didn’t mention anything about him, but I still wanted to make sure.
Besides, I had come to their nation to ask for help in the war against Kalusia, so I thought that if I took care of one of their problems, they would be more willing to assist.
I told Gina to stay at the inn with the people we were sheltering while Yoru and Vespera would scout around the mansion.
"If you see anything strange, or if you see them moving any of the victims somewhere, let me know and put a stop to them immediately," I commanded my companions.
This operation had to be a little different from the one in the Droman capital since we didn’t know the extent of their plans.
With the Crimson Scorpions, we could see where they were taking their victims, which gave us time to devise an entire plan to counter them. But we didn’t know much about the Sand Cobras, so if they took their kidnapped victims somewhere else, we wouldn’t know where.
While my companions surveyed the area, I decided I needed to do an impromptu visit to the sultan, just like I did with the empress.
However, I was in the same boat of not knowing exactly where the sultan was. He was obviously at the palace, but when I visited the empress, I knew exactly where her room was since it was at the top of the tallest tower.
In this case, I had no idea where the sultan slept, so it would be a lot more difficult to locate the man quickly.
’Screw it. I’ll just use force if I have to...’ I thought.
When nighttime finally arrived, I left the inn with my companions and separated on the main street as they made their way to the mansion, and I went to the palace.
It was my first time seeing the Aridonia palace up close, and it was pretty amazing. Its architecture reminded me a little bit of the Taj Mahal from my past world, but with more of a Mughal style to it mixed with Persian.
I flew up high in the air to cross the walls without the guards noticing me and used "search" to get a better idea of which rooms in the palace had people.
On one of the palace’s wings, I felt that there were three people in three different rooms, which made me believe that one of them had to be the sultan as it was further from the other two presences.
When I descended onto the room’s balcony, I saw a fat man sitting on a large couch with women barely wearing any clothing surrounding him, feeding him fruits as the man leisurely read a book.
I thought the sultan would’ve been sleeping, but I supposed it wouldn’t be easy with so many beautiful women around him. Nonetheless, I had important matters to discuss, so I used gravity magic to open the balcony lock.
As soon as I walked into the room, the women turned around, ready to scream. So, I used sound magic to mute them and the sultan for a moment as I tried to explain myself.
The sultan stood up, wearing an open silk robe that showcased his massive belly and silk shorts that seemed like they were about to rip at any second from the man’s fat.
"Hello there, sir. My name is Ichiro, and I come here to speak about important matters with you. That’s why I had to come in with more unconventional methods. Sorry about that..." I said to the man, who was still muted from my spell.
The women were still terrified and moved to a corner of the room, recoiling in fear.
’Am I really that scary? I just look like a 16-year-old, though...’ I thought.
However, the sultan looked quite composed and placed his hand on his chin as his gaze scanned me up and down.
Noticing that the man was calm, I released the mute so I could hear what he had to say.
"Ichiro, huh?" said the fat sultan as he walked to a drawer on the side of the room.
"Yes. Sorry, I don’t know your name, but I had to come here to talk anyways..." I elaborated.
The sultan introduced himself as "Harun Al-Malik, the Sultan of the desert Kingdom of Aridonia." while he kept looking for something in his drawer.
After a few seconds, the man brought out an empty potion vial, which I recognized as the one I used for my potions.
"I’m guessing you must be the same Ichiro that brewed this, correct?" the sultan asked, passing the empty bottle to me.
"Was this a holy panacea?" I asked, seeing that the vial matched perfectly.
The Sultan nodded and explained that his youngest daughter had fallen terribly ill a year ago, making him send soldiers and scouts all over the world looking for a cure.
One of his men made it to the Sephyr Kingdom on a boat and found the holy panaceas at a pharmacy, prompting him to buy them for the princess.
Once the soldiers returned, they fed the princess the holy panacea, and her disease disappeared forever. He even said that she looked much healthier than before getting sick.
"I see. I’m glad it worked." I said, listening to the sultan tell the story of how he came across my name a year ago.
