Chapter 1362: Learning Qi (Part 1)
Now that the others had arrived, Kai found himself worrying about one thing, that maybe the group would start treating this like a holiday even more than they had before.
However, it didn’t take long for Kai to realize that he had been completely wrong about that thought.
As the new arrivals saw the others practicing, their interest immediately shifted. They were eager to see how much progress everyone had made, including their own.
This curiosity sparked an intense wave of competitiveness between the groups, driving everyone to continue training and fighting harder than before.
Outside, in their own designated area, Innu, Gary, Xin, and Kevin gathered in the same spot they had been using previously, only now there was one more person who had decided to observe.
“I see, so that’s what he’s up to,” Kanu said, watching the group. “I have to say, the world of gangs and mobsters certainly seems more interesting than I thought. I always assumed the White Rose was full of politics and other troubles, but hearing about your problems, and this power of Qi, it really makes me wonder why it isn’t more widespread.
“Perhaps only a select few people can learn it, or maybe it’s a matter of secrecy, keeping it hidden to maintain an advantage. In the past, when we relied more on guns and such, I imagine it didn’t seem worth protecting.”
“I spoke to my father about that recently,” Xin chimed in. “I heard they’re considering getting rid of the Non-Lethal Weapons Act.”
Kanu nodded. “Right. If Altereds disappear, then countries will want to replace that force with something else. I just hope it won’t be something we turn against each other in the future, better to keep it for some greater threat.”
Xin chuckled softly. “Are you talking about aliens?”
“Of course I am! Why, do you think they don’t exist?” Kanu replied with a raised brow. “Think about it. With how vast the universe is, with all the planets out there, for us to be the only life form in existence? That’s a pretty arrogant thought. And I’m sure you’ve heard the theory, if something did discover us, their technological advancements would far outweigh ours. We wouldn’t stand a chance.
“So yes, I do believe in aliens. And don’t laugh at me, young lady. If I had told you about Werewolves before, and now that you’ve become one, wouldn’t you have laughed as well?”
The smirk disappeared from Xin’s face as she thought about it. He had a point. And she hadn’t even told Kanu about the vampires. She saw him as an old, retired uncle, someone she didn’t want to drag into this world too deeply.
“I do have a theory, though,” Kanu continued. “Someone stirred up this public outrage against the Altereds and the White Rose.
“In the beginning, the backlash was only toward Altereds in general. Much like how the police force had access to guns and equipment that the general public didn’t, people didn’t care too much about us being Altered. But something has certainly shifted from within. And your friend is trying to convince those in power to switch sides, but I don’t think that plan will work.”
“What do you mean, ‘from within’?” Xin asked.
“A higher power than ours, someone who wishes for our disbandment, for reasons we don’t yet understand.”
Xin wasn’t sure why, but upon hearing that, the first thing that came to mind was vampires.
They had claimed to have lived long lives, influencing the actions of the Altered Hunters. Could they also have influence within the White Rose?
Now that the White Rose served no further use to them, perhaps they had shifted their stance, turning them from allies into enemies.
It was unsettling to think about. Just how much control did the vampires truly have?
Meanwhile, Kai was still trying to get in contact with Blackjack, hoping to arrange something before the big day.
“I did it!” Gary suddenly shouted, leaping into the air with joy. “A whole fist! I managed to stop my whole fist from changing!”
While Gary celebrated, the rest of his forearm was still covered in fur. But it was hard to interrupt him, he was simply too happy with his progress.
“I wonder,” Xin thought, watching him. “Is this something Gary is just slow at… or is it something that’s genuinely difficult to do?”
She couldn’t hold back her curiosity anymore.
While Gary basked in his success and Innu looked utterly exhausted, Xin approached him with a bright smile.
“Do you mind trying just once for me?” she asked sweetly, placing her hands together in a polite gesture.
Innu didn’t have much energy left, he needed to recover to continue helping Gary. But with Xin, perhaps it would be different.
She was a strong Werewolf for sure, but Innu was also curious, did all Werewolves have such large pools of Qi they could access?
Since Xin was smaller, controlling her energy would require less of his own.
Patting the ground, Innu motioned for her to sit. Xin settled down, closing her eyes.
At first, when Qi flowed into her hand, she felt it beginning to transform. But as she focused, the energy steadied. Gradually, she suppressed the transformation, more and more, until it was completely gone.
Her arm returned to its normal state, though the energy remained present.
Innu peeked, watching carefully. Then he slowly pulled his hands away.
“Remember, remember that feeling. Keep it steady and continue on your own,” Innu instructed. “Hold it in your hand, and now, move it to your fist!”
“And now, punch the floor!”
Listening intently, Xin followed his directions. She drove her fist straight into the ground.
BOOM!
A loud impact echoed as a small crater formed beneath her knuckles.
Xin had done it. She had learned how to use Qi, and it had only taken her one try.
