My Werewolf System -
Chapter 1361: A Full House
Chapter 1361: A Full House
With the excitement of being able to stop the transformation of even a single finger, Gary pushed through with determination. It was a worthwhile task ahead of him, one he couldn’t afford to ignore.
Maybe most people wouldn’t be able to keep at it, or even attempt to control such a strange power in such a short amount of time. But Gary was a Werewolf, and being a Werewolf meant being filled with an endless well of energy to push forward in the first place.
Eventually though, by the end of the day, Gary was able to stop the transformation of not just one, but two fingers.
It was only the start, of course. Learning how to control the Qi to stop the transformation was only step one. After that, he would need to learn how to use that Qi to power himself as well.
It was a twofold step, and he was one step behind the path Innu had already taken.
Later that evening, the group gathered in the large open kitchen, sharing drinks and plates of food. They chatted casually about what they’d been working on, the room buzzing with tired but satisfied energy.
Quite a few members wore bruises and had rough markings around their faces. It wasn’t just Gary pushing himself, everyone here was working hard.
They shared a few stories back and forth between bites and sips.
“Wow, Ice, you’re so useful!” Innu said with a grin. “I love my drinks fresh and cold, and you can just blow on them and they freeze over. Alright, I think I’ve got to give the point to Ice over you, Apollo.”
He smirked teasingly.
“I thought you, being a big bear, could do something useful like this?”
“Useful like this?” Apollo repeated, his eye twitching.
“I have to ask, would you like to train with me tomorrow?”
Innu quickly backed away, laughing nervously.
“Haha, unfortunately, I’ve got a really busy schedule with the boss man. Otherwise, I’d love to show you my skills.”
After the pleasant get-together, everyone returned to their rooms. Xin and Gary didn’t go together this time, though they were still staying in rooms close to each other in case anything came up during the night.
Even though the others were resting, Gary couldn’t settle. Sleep refused to come. As he lay down and closed his eyes, he tried to recall the feeling, the sensation he had shared with Innu during training.
It was strange, trying to activate that same energy, but without transforming. It felt like an impossible task, almost like trying to perform two identical actions at once, yet deliberately separating them.
But Gary didn’t stop trying.
In the middle of the night, as he walked to the bathroom down the hallway, he continued to focus. Continued to try.
Until a deafening scream suddenly rang out through the building.
“AHHHHH!”
The next day arrived, and the maids were already busy preparing breakfast. The long dining table could easily seat thirty to forty guests, and it was now nearly full.
As each member of the Howlers woke up, they helped themselves to what was practically a buffet of food prepared just for them.
“Good morning,” Innu said groggily, rubbing his eyes. “Hey, did any of you hear screaming last night?”
“Ah, yeah, I heard it too,” Park replied. “I went to check, but apparently there was no issue. I think it was one of the maids.”
“It was really loud,” Marie added as she joined them at the table. “I honestly thought we were being attacked.”
“Sorry about that,” Gary said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.
“Sorry?” Xin asked, raising an eyebrow. “Does that mean it was you? What exactly did you do to make the poor woman scream?”
At the far edge of the table, Kai sat calmly, almost like the head of the family. He didn’t see it that way, of course, he had simply chosen an open seat.
“The maid said she saw a monster transform right in front of her eyes,” Kai reported calmly. “The glow from the hallway light was shining on its face. It had the appearance of a wolf.”
He glanced at Gary.
“I thought we were being attacked too, but it turns out it was just Gary.”
He gave a small shrug.
“It’s no issue. The staff knows most of us are Altered, but they weren’t expecting someone to transform in the middle of the night while going to the toilet.”
Gary flushed with embarrassment. Of course, he’d been trying to train during the night as well, and clearly, that had caused a bit more excitement than intended.
As he walked over to the table, he gave Innu a quick pat on the back.
“Eat up as much as you can. We need to train hard today,” Gary said. “We don’t have a lot of time.”
It was true. Although the atmosphere here felt light and joyful, with everyone living under one roof and the occasion feeling almost like a holiday, a darker reality loomed ahead.
The countdown was on. The full moon approached. Soon, they would find out whether it would bring trouble… or if they would be granted one more peaceful night.
But it wasn’t all gains for Gary alone. Constantly using his Qi this way, Innu was starting to see benefits too.
Kevin had been right about one thing, in the past, Innu hadn’t trained much when it came to Qi matters. He’d focused more on his body, relying on natural instincts to draw out Qi when needed.
But now, training alongside Gary, pushing himself, his Qi control was steadily improving. Wasted energy was no longer spilling out as he powered his attacks, and he could feel the amount of Qi he could use growing.
Maybe it was because he could feel Gary’s Qi, several times stronger than his own, or maybe it was the fact that he was now using his own Qi to the point of draining it nearly every hour. Either way, the growth was undeniable.
“Oh, what’s this? Everyone’s having breakfast without us already? Man, it looks so good!” Ian said, walking into the room.
Entering behind him were three more figures, Ian, Numba, and Izzy. They had received Kai’s call, and it hadn’t taken them long to arrive.
“It’s strange to see Apollo here,” Numba commented. “I don’t think I’ve run into him since the academy.”
“Hey, we’re all on the same side now,” Izzy said with a smile. “No problems here.”
Shortly after them, the members of White Rose arrived, Kanu, Elijah, Sadie, and Frank. Or perhaps it was more accurate to say ex-members of White Rose now.
“The house is starting to feel a little full,” Kai remarked, though there was a faint smile on his face.
It was amazing to see how much the Howlers had grown, not just from within, but from the allies and bonds they had built outside as well.
