My Ultimate Blacksmith System -
Chapter 39: Off We Go
Chapter 39: Off We Go
Ms. Cole explained the basics of our mission as best she could. She went on to tell us all the necessary information about this world, emphasizing that it was a medieval-class world.
Worlds were classified into six categories based strictly on their technological level of development: Medieval-Class World, Industrial-Class World, Post-Apocalyptic-Class World, Modern-Class World, Futuristic-Class World, and Mythic-Class World. All of these different types of worlds were still considered dungeons.
While she was explaining, Amelia interrupted with a question.
"Will we be the only class going on this mission?"
"Yes," she answered. "The other classes will have their own special missions."
Tension hung in the air; for weeks, our teachers had been preparing us with all the information we needed, but it was still hard to grasp.
"Now for the important part," Ms. Cole said, maintaining her eerie tone. "Your class will be leaving three days from now. I’ll be accompanying you to ensure you accomplish your mission. You’ll receive more important information upon your arrival."
She then went on to discuss the essential items we would need, such as food rations, clothes, and other necessities.
After she left, we all gathered together to discuss. Amelia quickly took center stage in the class.
"I know you are all worried about what our teacher said, but as she mentioned, we are doing this as a class, so there is no need to worry about anything."
Hikari joined her in calming everyone down.
"Amelia is right. As long as we work together, we should be fine."
The two seemed to have things under control. They had been working well together from the start, and whenever the class needed to have an important discussion, they were always ahead of it.
After reassuring everyone, they began devising plans for how we would tackle this mission. The information Ms. Cole provided was lacking, so there wasn’t much to do but wait until the time came.
When the time finally arrived, we were led into a spacious room covered entirely in white. This room was in one of the buildings that was usually off-limits to us students. It had no windows, and the only light source came from the huge bulbs situated on the ceiling.
"What is this place?" one of the students asked, to which Ms. Cole replied,
"It’s a room specialized for interdimensional travel."
The room was mostly empty except for two strange machines that sat parallel to one another. The only people in the room were us, Ms. Cole, and another some other people dressed in a lab coat.
The students, like myself, were all wearing the academy uniform. Most of us were carrying bags with luggage, while others with functional inventories had their luggage stored inside them.
The men in lab coats then proceeded to attach the same type of watch they had given us during the entrance exam.
"Please don’t take these off under any circumstances; if they get damaged, please go to your homeroom teacher, and she’ll replace it," one of the men in the lab coat said before taking out another device.
It was a small microchip, which he held in the air for everyone to see.
"This chip is programmed with the language of Shae’lyria."
I assumed the chip, the watch, and all the advanced technology in this school were created by the principal himself. From what I had heard, he had a renowned technology system.
"To use this chip is very simple; all you have to do is swallow it. This chip is called Neuro-Lingo."
Following their instructions, we swallowed the chip as we received it. Shortly after, a huge gate opened up, forming what resembled a small tornado of blue energy. The mana that emanated was almost stifling.
But just as we were about to enter, another figure entered the room. It was the principal, wearing a proud smile as he surveyed us.
"Class Qi," he said in a stern voice, "all the other classes have already gone; you’re the last ones left." He strolled around the room, taking in the nervous faces of the students.
"You might not know it now," he continued, "but from this moment on, eyes will be watching you—to see what type of heroes you will become."
By ’eyes,’ I assumed he meant different hero agencies. They were like vultures, some going to the extreme of sneaking into the school to approach promising students. I had overheard some of my classmates say they had been stopped and asked questions about Amelia.
"As you embark on this journey, I wish to bid you farewell. I expect you to carry yourselves in a manner befitting the heroes of the Limitless Hero Academy. Throughout this journey, you will meet many different people; some will pose a danger to you, while others will be allies."
How long will this old man prattle on?
He stopped in front of the gate and stood beside our homeroom teacher, who seemed rather excited.
"At times, you’ll find yourselves in very difficult situations. But it is these situations that will shape the heroes you will become. Our chairman, the number one hero, also wishes you the best of luck."
With the principal’s inspiring speech, we all stepped up to enter the gate, forming a long queue. I watched my classmates pass through the gate one by one until it was finally my turn.
When I stepped through, the world swirled around me, and my vision became blurry. It was just like last time—until everything took a turn. Suddenly, everything went black, as if I had been sucked into a void.
I felt my body floating in an endless space. It felt like I was nothing but a speck of dust being blown in the wind until, in a split second, everything returned to normal—except it wasn’t normal at all.
The heat was the first thing that hit me; not like fire, but more like an invisible pressure bearing down on me. I felt it with every breath I took; it was as if I were boiling from the inside.
I found myself on my knees, crawling on a ground so black that it sparkled like diamonds. When I lifted my head off the piping hot surface, that was when I saw it: a pool of molten liquid flowing through the huge cracks in the ground, almost like a river.
"Is this magma?" I muttered under my breath.
CLANG!!
A loud clang echoed—one that shook the entire structure. It sounded like someone was beating steel.
CLANG!
With every clang, the magma splashed upwards like a tidal wave. I barely managed to avoid being melted alive, making sure to stay close to the wall, as far away from the splashing magma as possible.
CLANG!
The sound didn’t stop; in fact, it seemed to intensify with each passing second. With no idea what else to do, I decided to follow the sound.
CLANG!
As I got closer, the sound became more defined.
It was definitely the sound of steel clattering.
I struggled to keep from fainting under the pressure of the heat. It felt like I was being cooked alive; my skin was already sizzling.
Where the hell did the school drop us?
After a while of walking, I came upon a vast space, and with it, a giant—at least three meters tall with muscles so bulky it looked like it was reinforced by steel. His face was old and gruff, and he was blinded in his left eye, with a huge scar running across the left side of his face.
But what intrigued me more was the lower half of his body. It looked completely deformed, his legs twisted in a way that made it seem impossible for him to walk.
CLAAANNNG!!!
It was him; the loud clanging that was causing the earth to quake was because of him. The more I looked at him, the more I realized something.
He was a blacksmith.
