Chapter 90: Chapter 90- Weapon smith
"I might be lucky to find you at the lowest point of your life, Surben," Cruxius said, holding a metal rod that looked like a sword not yet fully forged. He glanced at the blind man, whose walking stick had just been stopped by Darithi.
The blind man stood still, subtly tilting his head to catch the sound and assess the situation unfolding around him.
’!’
"Wh-who are you?!" Surben was clearly taken aback. First, the intruder knew his name, and second, he wasn’t alone—he had come with a woman. This suggested they weren’t here just for petty theft.
Especially considering the force that woman seemed to possess, it was evident she had some kind of superpower.
Naturally, for someone with a superpower to infiltrate the home of a blind man—who possessed nothing but a few clothes and a cat—was deeply suspicious.
"Oh, me? I’m Cruxius Blac. You might’ve heard about me on your radio," Cruxius said, recalling the days he saw this man at the peak of his career—still listening to the outdated FM radios for news since he couldn’t see, yet renowned as one of the top three weapon masters, often hired by heroes who preferred gauntlets or minimal bodily enhancements.
Superpowers granted heroes strength, of course, but sometimes a small enhancement—a strong weapon—could make them comparable to the higher-ranked ones.
A powerful weapon could deal a fatal blow to a monster, making it the choice of certain heroes, though in today’s world, it was often seen as shameful.
Simply put, having a weapon as a hero implied weakness—a crutch to compensate for a lack of power.
That’s why weapons were mostly used by low-ranking heroes. At least, that was the case until a few weaponsmiths—like the man in front of him—rose to prominence.
’!’
"C-Cruxius Blac? The playboy?" Surben was clearly stunned.
He had once heard a radio commentary featuring a short documentary about this man.
Out of curiosity, Surben had found that Cruxius was often seen with random women across different occasions.
"...Which radio station was that, and what was the name of the radio jockey?" Cruxius asked, caught off-guard. In most cases, such information was suppressed by the Blac family, so revealing anything of the sort was rare.
For this blind man to know, it meant the family had overlooked a small FM channel leaking the truth—a surprisingly admirable feat.
"Oh, it was Vex. Devil Vex," Surben replied, loosening his grip on the rod and carefully moving toward a chair, seating himself without help, noting the woman didn’t offer him assistance—a sign she felt no sympathy for a blind man.
"Vex... I see." Cruxius’s mouth twitched slightly upon hearing the name. He instantly recognized it. A brief smile formed as he shook his head, remembering a few friends who often targeted his personal life.
But Vex had never been on that list—mainly because he died like a dog after falling into a dried-up lake while dodging a truck.
The same would happen again—Cruxius just needed a reason.
"So—" Cruxius began to speak about the sword he needed made, but Surben interrupted him.
"I know what you want. Handcuffs, butt plugs, and those perverted toys you ask other weapon masters to make. I won’t do it. Never," Surben said firmly. He recalled the detailed information the jockey had broadcast, complete with proof—Cruxius was known to hire popular weapon masters to forge bondage tools.
"...."
"Master, any orders?"
"Kill Vex. Make sure he falls into a dry lake."
"I’ll hire an assassin now."
"...Gulp. Y-Young Master, please tell me what you need," Surben stammered, shaken by the serious conversation—as if the man named Vex was already dead. His bravado vanished as survival instincts took over.
"I need a weapon, Surben," Cruxius said, glancing at the entrance where Dorothy had left. He had intentionally sent her away, wanting to prepare a gift for her. She would know eventually—but not right away.
"A weapon? Young Master, I might not be suitable..." Surben began to explain that he might not be good enough, especially considering the resources Cruxius had access to. But Cruxius interrupted him.
"A sword. A simple sword made out of cold black metal. I’ll give you the material in two days," Cruxius stated calmly.
The servant appeared slightly confused. If Cruxius was going to bring the materials later, why had he come now?
"I-I understand," Surben replied with a simple nod, waiting silently for the man to leave.
"Pick up that cat. We’re relocating," Cruxius said as he stood, hands tucked into his pockets. At that moment, several guards burst into the room.
’!?!’
"Wh-what the—mmpphh—!?!" Surben was clearly startled by the stampede of footsteps. As he tried to rise, his face was suddenly covered, and his arms were grabbed by two or three muscular men. In moments, he lost consciousness.
thud
He fell to his knees, restrained by two men in suits—clearly bodyguards—on either side. Cruxius gave them another order, his voice sharp as he pointed a finger toward the cat that had just leapt onto the table.
"Grab that cat."
"Y-yes, sir," one of the guards responded, lunging after the cat. But naturally, the little creature evaded capture with ease, springing off the guard’s head and attempting to dash out of the room. Just as it was mid-air, however, Darithi caught it by the collar.
"Here, Master," Darithi said, holding the cat in one hand as she approached Cruxius.
Cruxius stepped forward as well, reaching for the collar the cat wore. It squirmed in Darithi’s firm grip as he pulled a small locket from the collar.
"Hm, it even has a timer?" Cruxius muttered, unused to such a thing, as he noticed a small flickering display on the pendant.
With a simple click, he stopped the countdown—clearly a piece of tech designed to trigger something once it hit zero.
Whatever it was, he had no intention of letting it activate—especially knowing this device could mean the freedom of the man he intended to keep as a weapon-making slave.
"Darithi, let’s go," he ordered, turning toward the door and walking out of the room. The bodyguards and Darithi followed behind him.
