Chapter 275: Chapter 126: Floating in the Mother River Until Losing Contact (Asking for Monthly Tickets) _2
This black and red, hollowed-out rectangle was familiar to Gary Smith...because once it was capped, it would turn into a coffin!
Well, if he lay down in there now, he could go straight for a burial at sea... pretty convenient, right?
While it wasn’t as leaky as he had imagined, receiving a coffin to enter the Mother River wasn’t exactly reassuring for Gary Smith.
"It seems that I can only hope for the contract with Eggy to complete the Spiritual Puzzle and make it look better..."
Gary Smith comforted himself, finding it normal that an incomplete puzzle was unappealing.
The Little Spider tried spreading its inner eye throughout the surroundings, but the range it could sense was limited to where the Spirit Lamp illuminated. The misty area felt like being in a black hole, swallowing even their perception.
"So this is the Primordial Spirit Sea..."
Mousie curiously laid at the edge of the ship, its head moving around to gaze at the new environment. But boredom soon overtook its curiosity against the unchanging gray mist, and it instead focused on the blurry reflection on the water surface.
Mousie couldn’t resist making a face, but what was terrifying was that the reflection in the Spiritual Sea did not mirror its action. Instead, the figure in the reflection split in half, with several wiggling tentacles emerging from its body.
"Cultivator, there’s a ghost!"
This scared Mousie, causing it to suddenly leap, shivering onto Gary Smith. Despite holding the Thousand-faced Soul Tree, it was still terrified of ghosts.
Gary Smith rolled his eyes and said quietly, "I’ve already told you, there are unknown, odd things hidden beneath the Spiritual Sea. This time, you probably encountered what Lilith called a mutant reflection.
It is produced by a congregation of immense Original spirituality, resulting in a peculiar change. It can reflect your mutated form, and if people gaze at it for too long, their minds may even become corrupted, compelling them to sink into the Primordial Spirit Sea and permanently transform into that grotesque figure."
"I don’t want to become that ugly!" Mousie countered softly, carrying a psychological shadow and daring not to look around carelessly again.
Gary shook his head, about to set off, when suddenly he noticed a problem...
There were no paddles on the ship, so how was he supposed to move forward?
It wasn’t like he could maneuver the ship just through the force of the waves, right?
Just as Gary Smith was pondering, the Eye of the Void at the rear of the coffin-like ship pulsed, spewing out a purple flame. The flame’s kinetic force propelled the ship to move forward.
This was actually driven by a Void Engine!?
It had surpassed the manual rowboats of past generations and entered a new era of black technology.
The four Eyes of the Void corresponded to four directions. So there was no need to turn around even while facing dangers, it could simply move sideways like a crab.
"Well isn’t my puzzle ingenious? I will name you...cough, Void Dragon Ant!"
Immediately, Gary Smith changed his attitude, leading Mousie to sneer. Just a moment ago he was criticizing it as a coffin, and now he had chosen a stylish name for it.
Oh, men!
The Little Spider, meanwhile, cheered them on with fists clenched:
"Ying Ying!"
And so, they set off!
As the Void Dragon Ant continued to forge ahead, the fog gradually dissipated. However, it was swallowed up again from behind by the fog. With no landmarks, it felt as if they were going around in circles, causing dizziness and the Spirit Lamp’s oil was depleted to two-thirds.
"Cultivator, I am so bored. Why don’t you let me take over?"
Mousie languished on the ship, waving its little paws to suggest it take over the controls, but Gary Smith ignored it.
It was not that he didn’t trust Mousie. This entry into the Primordial Spirit Sea was simply a recon of the environment. It was better to rely on the ship’s own power to move forward. Any abrupt actions could lead to unpredictable changes.
Lilith had warned him that maintaining calm in the Spiritual Sea was more important than any gains.
The Void Dragon Ant continued its voyage. When the Spiritual Lamp’s oil was only half-filled, the fog in front of them lifted. What appeared was not deeper fog but a colossal creature.
Slowly rising from the Spiritual Sea, with dim-blue water streams flowing along its body back into the Sea, it revealed its true form.
It was a...giant crab!
However, unlike other crabs, it had an incredibly massive body. Its right claw was particularly large, equivalent to half of its body, and had octopus tentacles of dark green color all over. The left claw, surprisingly, was a human arm. Its grotesque appearance, especially the male human face shielded in a gray-shell, looked extraordinarily menacing, with bubbles constantly emerging from its mouth.
The shell on its back was like a giant shield. However, it was not decorated with barnacles or algae but with studded skulls.
Various types of demons and several humans were amongst those. Having been cut off by the giant claw and placed there, it resembled a wall of trophies. They, just like the crab, kept blowing bubbles and releasing painful moans, which echoed in the Primordial Spirit Sea.
"Save me..."
"I don’t want to die..."
"Gurgle gurgle..."
"Woof woof..."
"..."
The combination of these voices turned into bizarre mental fluctuations that swept over the surroundings, threatening to contaminate any living creature’s will and distort their spirit.
"This is...a Mutant Clan!"
Gary Smith’s gaze hardened. In the Primordial Spirit Sea, aside from Beastmasters who had ventured in from outside or demons, the most abundant were these Mutant Clan members.
Some of them were Beastmasters who had previously failed to promote, and others were demons contaminated by the Spiritual Sea. They were those who did not perish under the torrent of spirit energy but instead adapted to the shallow environment of the Spiritual Sea, enabling them to roam freely within its boundaries.
