Chapter 323: 323 Transformation
It was another new day, the weather growing cooler by the moment.
Chen Xu stepped out of the building and distinctly felt the chill in the air. He looked up to see a cloudy sky.
“I’ll take you to the office,” he said, turning to Luo Xiyun, who was just coming out behind him.
This was Luo Xiyun’s home, where he had spent the night before.
Today, she was dressed in a light purple dress and held a beautifully shaped purse in her hand. She said, “No need, Yu Meng will come to pick me up soon.”
After the VR-specific camera had been developed, she decided to take a day off. Chen Xu’s persuasion had been effective, and every so often, she would take a day off for herself.
“Taking a day off, do you really not plan to go on a date with me?” Chen Xu’s tone held a hint of disappointment.
Luo Xiyun noticed a hair on his collar, stepped closer to remove it, and straightened his collar for him, saying, “I have to spend time with my friends too. You should go on with your work.”
In the midst of their conversation, Liu Yumeng’s car drove up and stopped right next to the Maybach.
“Then I’ll be off,” Luo Xiyun said goodbye to Chen Xu and got into Liu Yumeng’s car.
Chen Xu waved with a smile and said, “Have a good time.”
……
Liu Yumeng looked at the black Maybach and then at Chen Xu, who was still standing there, confusion evident in her gaze, but she didn’t express it until after she drove away with Luo Xiyun, then she asked, “Whose car was that just now?”
Luo Xiyun replied, “It’s Chen Xu’s new car. He often has to go out for business now, so he bought a better car.”
Liu Yumeng was astonished, “Where did he get so much money?”
A Maybach cost several million. Even if Chen Xu had started a noodle shop chain, how many bowls of noodles would he need to sell to afford it?
“He opened a lab before and invented a patent, which he licensed to a few companies and made quite a bit of money,” Luo Xiyun said, without mentioning the specific amount because it was too exaggerated.
Open a lab and invent a patent?
This news left Liu Yumeng dumbfounded. Wasn’t Chen Xu just a noodle shop owner? How did he end up opening a lab and coming up with patent inventions?
She blurted out incredulously, “Are you kidding me?”
“This kind of thing, how can it be a mistake?” Luo Xiyun laughed, not continuing the topic. She knew her friend had always been at odds with Chen Xu.
Liu Yumeng could only swallow her questions.
……
Chen Xu watched Liu Yumeng’s car drive away and then got into his own vehicle, telling the driver, “Go to the data center.”
Then, he received a phone call, this time from Yang Jinxia, who wanted to meet with him.
After hanging up, he let out a sigh and said, “Looks like I won’t be able to make it to the data center after all.”
He informed the driver and detoured to Jinxiu Group.
This was Chen Xu’s first visit to Yang Jinxia’s office. Upon arrival at the building, a female employee greeted and escorted him to the top floor.
Once inside Jinxiu Group, Chen Xu noticed that most of the employees he passed were women. Thinking carefully, even the secretaries around Jinxia seemed to be all women. He hadn’t expected her to have such a preference in hiring.
After entering Yang Jinxia’s office, Chen Xu looked around and commented, “You really know how to enjoy life; your office is so grand.”
He walked to the glass wall facing the street, peering down at the road that stretched into the distance, feeling like he had the entire city beneath his feet.
Yang Jinxia, sitting at her desk, had just brewed a pot of tea and announced, “The tea is ready.”
Chen Xu settled back at the desk, took a cup of tea, had a sip, and remarked, “The tea here is really good.”
“If you like it, take some with you,” Yang Jinxia said with a smile.
Chen Xu didn’t hesitate, replying, “Sure.”
Yang Jinxia also sipped her tea, then put her cup back down and suddenly asked, “Are you free this Sunday?”
“Uh…”
She could tell by the hesitation on his face and chuckled, “What, do you have another date?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, I won’t pry.”
Yang Jinxia could guess who his date was from his expression and didn’t press further, instead refilling the teapot with hot water and brewing another pot.
She said, “I’m planning to build a production line for flash memory chips. Equipment and personnel are almost in place. However, the technology is a generation old; I can’t get my hands on the latest one. Do you have any way to work around the patents?”
“Yes, it’s just a bit troublesome.”
Chen Xu didn’t need to think before giving a confident answer, then curiously asked, “Weren’t you always into investing? What made you suddenly want to start a physical company?”
Yang Jinxia placed a cup of tea in front of him with a wooden tongs and responded, “Jinxiu Group has reached a limit. This isn’t the United States; the environment doesn’t allow for a true investment bank to emerge. Last year, there was an opportunity to obtain some shares in a bank from another party. We had already reached an agreement, but they reneged on it.”
“Actually, similar situations have occurred several times over the years. I wanted to get into mobile payments. Just when I had integrated the resources, my license was revoked. Since then, I’ve known that Jinxiu Group has hit a ceiling.”
Chen Xu thought about it and agreed. Jinxiu Group’s influence was already very exaggerated, rivaled only by a few state-owned investment banks. Stretching into the financial domain would indeed be terrifying.
After all, the power behind Jinxiu Group wasn’t sufficient to allow it to expand to that extent.
“Prosperity leads to decline. It’s time for Jinxiu Group to transform,” Yang Jinxia declared.
Chen Xu sensed her resolve and nodded, proposing, “I’ll help you with the patent issue, but first, you need to get me a relevant patent catalogue.”
He wasn’t sure about the current flash memory chip manufacturers’ technology and patents.
“I’ve got it ready.” Yang Jinxia produced a USB drive as if from nowhere.
Chen Xu took it, planning to look at it later. He hesitated before asking, “Are you in some kind of trouble?”
“Not yet, but who knows about the future,” Yang Jinxia briefly shared with him the news about the person suspected to be her father, who had protected Jinxiu Group, now stepping back from the frontline.
“Being a social butterfly isn’t my forte. In fact, in the past few years, I’ve offended quite a few people while fighting for shares in some quality companies. Jinxiu Group might look strong, but it has clear weaknesses.”
Chen Xu listened and nodded continuously. Yang Jinxia’s style was somewhat introverted; she not only disliked public appearances but also seldom left her company. She mostly met with various partners at the office and never attended any banquets or evening parties.
That she had grown an investment company to such a scale with such an approach was indeed an anomaly.
