Chapter 303 - Chapter 303 303 Youve really changed

Chapter 303: 303 You’ve really changed Chapter 303: 303 You’ve really changed It was already evening, and the sunset hung on the edge of the sky, dyeing the surrounding clouds with a layer of red glow.

Chen Ziqi pushed the wheelchair onto an open space, looking at Chen Xu sitting in the wheelchair with closed eyes, head slightly raised, seemingly enjoying the fresh outdoor air.

She hesitated for a moment before asking, “Chen Xu, what happened before?”

“What do you mean, ‘what happened’?” Chen Xu didn’t move, lazily leaning his head against the top of the backrest, basking in the slanting rays of the setting sun, and appeared exceedingly comfortable.

Chen Ziqi complained, “Do you realize that you’d been lying down for over ten days, scaring me to death? If something had happened to you, how could I explain it to your parents?”

Finally, Chen Xu opened his eyes, turned to look at her, and said reassuringly, “You did well this time, able to withstand the pressure without calling my parents. Otherwise, they would have been sick with worry.”

After praising her, he explained, “Actually, I just had surgery, and as for what kind, I’ll leave you guessing. The surgery went quite well, and now that I’ve awakened, I’m fine.”

This was something Chen Xu had prepared to say, given that he had slept for over ten days; he needed an explanation.

Chen Ziqi, of course, knew he had undergone surgery; she had asked the doctors and nurses, who all told her the same. What she wanted to know was what kind of surgery it was, but seeing that he didn’t want to reveal it, she knew she wouldn’t be able to pry it open and thus gave up.

It was good that he was alright now.

Seeing that she didn’t doubt his story, Chen Xu couldn’t help but reflect that Yang Jinxia was always meticulous in her work. If the doctors and nurses had leaked anything earlier, he probably wouldn’t have been able to bluff Chen Ziqi.

Chen Ziqi thought of another matter, her voice lowering, “Sister Xiyun, she only came once.”

“Oh.”

Seeing his indifferent response, Chen Ziqi felt somewhat concerned, “Are you alright?”

“What could be wrong with me?” Chen Xu said with a laugh, “These things take time; you can’t rush them.”

Seeing him still capable of laughing, Chen Ziqi felt relieved, her main worry being that he might become despondent. Now, it appeared that he was in a really good mental state.

Now she became a bit curious and asked, “Are you truly not in a hurry?”

“I ask you, if your future boyfriend…”

“He dares? I’ll break his legs.”

“Haha…” Chen Xu couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Chen Ziqi looked at him with some astonishment, failing to see the humor. Moreover, Chen Xu rarely laughed so uncontrollably, as he always kept a tight rein on his emotions, whether angry or happy, he would not express them too intensely–loud laughter or swearing in anger was never his style.

What was going on today that he laughed so freely?

She couldn’t help but ask, “What are you laughing at?”

Chen Xu, still laughing, said, “You, with your double standards. Anyone else would curse you out for it.”

“Tsk.”

Chen Ziqi looked somewhat disdainful, then after a while, asked again, “So, what do you plan to do?”

Chen Xu joked, “Dogged perseverance, just sticking to her, for life.”

“Tsk tsk…”

Chen Ziqi feigned surprise, saying, “It seems this surgery has enlightened you greatly.”

“What enlightenment, you’re uneducated–I’m not about to become a monk,” Chen Xu said, catching a glimpse of a familiar figure approaching from the corner of his eye. He commented, “Our leisure time is over.”

“Hmm?” Chen Ziqi looked towards the newcomer, a woman in her early thirties with short hair, who seemed sharp and capable.

“Mr. Chen, I’ve finally found you.”

The person was Liu Shanshan, and her tone carried a hint of reproach. They had just finalized the details of her starting the job, and as the boss, Chen Xu had played the absentee landlord, disappearing for over ten days. The company was left empty; these days, she had been so busy she could have pulled her hair out. It was no wonder she harbored some resentment.

Chen Xu spoke gently, “Apologies, I was hospitalized due to some health issues. You’ve worked hard these past days. Jinxia told me you did very well.”

Liu Shanshan was merely venting a little; after all, Chen Xu was the boss. She quickly adjusted her attitude, saying, “I really shouldn’t be disturbing you at this moment, but these documents require your signature.” She handed over the documents she was carrying.

Chen Xu took the documents without rushing to open them. Instead, he pointed to the nearby bench, “Take a seat.”

Liu Shanshan sat down, noticing the gaze of the young girl next to the boss and offered her a polite smile.

“This is my sister, Chen Ziqi. This is the person in charge of my new company, Liu Shanshan. You can just call her Sister Shanshan,” Chen Xu introduced them, then picked up the documents to review.

“Sister Shanshan,” Chen Ziqi greeted obediently.

Chen Xu, sitting in his wheelchair, began to meticulously review the documents. Since he had decided to start a company, he had to get into the role, and contracts naturally couldn’t be signed carelessly. This had nothing to do with trust but was a matter of basic professionalism.

There were more than a dozen documents, and by the time he had finished reviewing them, an hour had passed. The sky had already turned dark, and the three of them returned to the hospital room.

Chen Xu, finding no issues with the documents, signed them all and handed them to Liu Shanshan, “I’ll be at the company tomorrow.”

Liu Shanshan hesitated slightly, “Your health…”

“My health is not an issue.”

Seeing him so insistent, Liu Shanshan took her leave.

Once she had gone, Chen Ziqi finally spoke up, questioning his decision, “You’re not seriously thinking of going to the company in a wheelchair?”

Chen Xu stood up from the wheelchair, stretched a bit, and said, “Did you really think I wouldn’t be able to walk?”

“You…” Chen Ziqi watched him walk steadily, froze, then burst out indignantly, “Were you fooling me?”

Chen Xu responded with amusement, “You insisted on pushing the wheelchair here, wanting to take me out for a walk. I simply couldn’t bear to refuse your kindness.”

Chen Ziqi glared at him for a moment, her anger inexplicably subsiding, and she said ruefully, “Chen Xu, you’ve changed. You wouldn’t have done this to me before.”

Chen Xu patted her head, “People always change. Didn’t you used to hate the smell of disinfectant in hospitals? We’ll move back home tomorrow.”

Having lived through over thirty years in a dream, even if he had not regained all his memories, his mindset had completely altered from before. How could he not change?

Looking back now, he felt his former self had been too dull.

Most of the time, an interesting life doesn’t just fall into your lap; you need to seek it out and create it yourself.

Truth be told, he was eager to return to his original life in the large city filled with life’s flavors.

In the future, this city, this country, and even this world, would undergo tremendous changes because of him.

He was truly looking forward to tomorrow’s arrival.
