Chapter 302 - Chapter 302 302 Dream Ends
Chapter 302: 302 Dream Ends Chapter 302: 302 Dream Ends During the following period, Chen Xu cherished his time and did not stay in the residential area. Instead, he took Yang Jinxia or Bai Jinxuan around to view the scenery of this alien planet. They even took a landing craft to experience outer space.
However, no matter how much he cherished the time, it still passed relentlessly, minute by minute.
A year later, Yang Jinxia logged off. Then, Bai Jinxuan logged in.
Another year passed, and Bai Jinxuan also logged off.
Chen Xu had spent thirty-three years in the dream.
After Bai Jinxuan left, he did not log off immediately. Instead, he began to accelerate time and continued playing the game; he could not quit halfway.
With each click for acceleration, a month passed by, and with another click, yet another month was gone.
Chen Xu watched as the base visibly changed, successfully conquering the second zone and the first zone and eventually occupying the entire continent.
Then, the base used the resources of the entire continent to climb up the technological tree. One year passed, then two, and twenty years flew by.
After a rapid period of growth, the base had reached a pinnacle of power. Moving forward, advancing the technology level would require centuries. During this period, the only option was to accumulate continuously.
It was then, as Chen Xu neared his eighties, that he finally decided to explore another continent.
As he had guessed before, the underworld of the neighboring continent hadn’t experienced similar earthquakes, so their technological legacy wasn’t entirely broken. After thousands of years of recuperation, they had regained vitality and returned to the surface from the underground.
Chen Xu had intended to communicate with them, but unfortunately, the underworld dwellers were extremely hostile towards him. As soon as they saw his flying vessels, they initiated an attack.
A war became inevitable.
The war lasted nearly ten years. The two sides were nearly equal in technology level and resources.
In the end, Chen Xu achieved a hard-earned victory, and all the underworld dwellers shrunk back underground again.
He won because he used robots in the battle. The underworld dwellers were weak in robotics and had to rely on humans; they couldn’t compete in attrition and were forced to surrender.
After such a long war, Chen Xu captured many important underworld figures and gleaned much more knowledge about the planet.
This planet had a total of five continents, and Chen Xu now occupied the two largest ones. The remaining three were no longer a threat.
Chen Xu also uncovered the truth about the war that occurred a thousand years ago. The most powerful country at that time was constantly pressured by a rising power, along with an economic crisis, causing national power to decline.
Then, a tough leader came to power and applied a series of stern policies, putting pressure on their pursuer. When they learned that their rival had completed a groundbreaking invention first, they resorted to nuclear blackmail, which escalated beyond control due to the manipulation of some ambitious individuals.
Accompanied by a huge explosion, the world plunged into an apocalyptic war.
At this stage, the game was not yet over, so Chen Xu had to continue playing, building up strength. Five years later, he set out for the other three continents.
It took ten years, but he finally conquered the entire planet.
It was then that Chen Xu received a signal from the mothership; they had finally returned. After seventy-five years of departure, they had once again arrived in this star system.
By this time, Chen Xu was a hundred years old.
With the support of the mothership, the development of this planet entered a period of rapid progress.
Thus, fifty years later, the 150-year-old Chen Xu closed his eyes.
“Congratulations, you have completed the two-star dream simulation ‘Exploration Team.'”
After hearing this voice, Chen Xu truly realized that it was finally over. He had been in the game for a full 120 years–thankfully, almost ninety of those years were spent in accelerated time. The thought was terrifying.
There were no points or rewards in a star-level game, something he knew beforehand and didn’t mind. One shouldn’t be too greedy; this game had already given him more than enough.
Thirty-three years in the dream were enough to make him one of the top experts in several fields. Moreover, with the device’s playback function, he could revisit any knowledge he couldn’t remember.
But these were just minor benefits.
The most precious thing was the many years he spent with the three women, ten years with each. That was something no amount of money could buy.
Thinking over this, Chen Xu exited this space.
Chen Xu opened his eyes and saw a pair of red eyes.
“You’re awake–” Suddenly, the owner of those eyes screamed and ran out.
This guy…
The one who had just run out was Chen Ziqi.
Chen Xu learned from Yang Jinxia that since he had become conscious, Chen Ziqi had been at his bedside all this time.
He tried to move, but felt completely weak, not knowing whether it was because he had been lying down too long or because of the game.
Everything from the dream felt like it was veiled in fog, becoming very vague.
This was the device’s addiction prevention system taking effect.
Soon, Chen Ziqi returned with a large group of people, all wearing white coats, who fussed over him.
Several hours later.
Chen Xu could finally sit up. Beside him, Chen Ziqi lay on his hand, asleep. One hand still firmly grasped his, unwilling to let go.
Though thirty-three years had passed in the dream, it had only been eleven days in reality.
Chen Ziqi had vigilantly watched over him for those eleven days, too frightened to even phone home, guarding him alone.
At that moment, the door was pushed open from the outside and Yang Jinxia walked in. Seeing him awake, she smiled, “You’re awake.”
“Yeah,” nodded Chen Xu.
Yang Jinxia glanced at Chen Ziqi lying by the bed, her eyes filled with tenderness, and said, “You have a good sister.”
“Yes, though she can be quite willful at times,” Chen Xu replied in a somewhat weak voice.
Yang Jinxia held a thermos in her hand, went to the other side, opened it, and poured out a bowl. She scooped up a spoonful and brought it to his mouth, saying, “This is porridge I just made, try some.”
Chen Xu opened his mouth and took a bite, saying, “Tasty.”
“Too perfunctory, make it sound more sincere.”
Chen Xu coughed lightly and said, “Tasty.”
“Too exaggerated, being sincere doesn’t mean straining.”
“Forget it, I guess I’ll never learn these types.”
While feeding him, Yang Jinxia said, “I kind of miss the you from the dream.”
Chen Xu replied, “What’s the difference? I am me, whether in the dream or now. Once my memory fully returns, you probably won’t see me this way anymore.”
PS: I’ve finally finished writing this dream sequence. From now on, the plot will focus on reality. Since there’s no outline, I’ll just write whatever comes to mind.
