Chapter 283 - Chapter 283 283 Plan
Chapter 283: 283 Plan Chapter 283: 283 Plan The next morning, Chen Xu stood in the newly built robot production workshop, looking at the first finished product in front of him.
Over two meters tall and pure white, with smooth lines, this was a universal-type humanoid robot, the most widely applicable, truly a jack-of-all-trades. It could be used for reconnaissance, combat, or act as an assistant in mining and construction tasks.
Although it was less efficient than specialized robots, it was incredibly handy when needed.
Specialized robots were more useful, but adding a new type would require an additional production line, and he couldn’t afford such luxury at this point.
Chen Xu reached out and patted the robot, saying, “Send it for testing.”
According to safety regulations, newly produced robots had to undergo a year of adjustment testing. However, he couldn’t wait that long and compressed the timeline to ten days.
After ten days, as long as no problems were discovered, they would move to mass production.
He felt considerable pressure as the mainframe had analyzed the combat capabilities of the black, viscous substance he had named “Parasite Armor.” The material was the video of that battle.
The analysis concluded that its combat power was formidable; when it transformed into armor, it was impervious to ordinary artillery shells.
There was also a detail: the man wearing the Parasite Armor had clearly had part of his arm blown off. However, when the parasite left, his arm had regrown.
This meant the Parasite Armor could grant its host incredible regenerative abilities. In future engagements, they would need to ensure a one-hit-kill, or the parasitic foe would quickly recover.
Moreover, once the parasite left the host and transformed into a liquid, it exhibited strong permeation capabilities. Robots were waterproof, but that did not stop the substance from breaching their chips in a mere two seconds.
With the instantaneous speed it had displayed, it could overpower any robot model in a one-on-one encounter.
Fortunately, it had shown no long-range attack capabilities, and its weakness was relatively obvious. As long as he built up a massive robot army, they could simply overwhelm it in a frontal assault.
Then, Chen Xu thought about that human. What exactly was his relationship with the parasite? Who was the master, and who was the auxiliary?
And this planet couldn’t possibly have only one human; there must be a group. Where did they reside?
Various questions emerged in his mind, but unfortunately, that human was already dead, leaving those answers undiscovered.
“It seems I need to intensify the exploration efforts.”
…
Around noon, Chen Xu, carrying a basket, arrived at the study room.
As he entered, he saw Luo Xiyun take off her glasses and walk over, sitting down at the dining table.
“How’s your learning going?” he asked casually as he served the food and handed over a pair of chopsticks.
“Pretty good,” replied Luo Xiyun.
Chen Xu said, “Actually, the artificial intelligence of this world is somewhat different from what I’ve encountered before; its development has taken a slightly different path.”
“Oh,” she responded without much reaction.
Chen Xu continued, “In the previous world, the algorithms were more sophisticated, almost perfected, focusing on maximizing chip utilization. The AI in this world doesn’t have such refined algorithms and relies mainly on stacking hardware performance.”
Luo Xiyun asked, “Why are you telling me this?”
Chen Xu smiled and said, “Just making conversation, looking for topics you might be interested in.”
Luo Xiyun ultimately didn’t say much.
After a few days of interaction, the irritation she had been harboring had significantly subsided. She wasn’t as confrontational as before. Her demeanor was still cool, but she no longer spoke harsh words.
Chen Xu felt this was progress. After all, haste doesn’t bring success. Many things needed time; his goal was to subtly influence and achieve his objectives.
The ten days flew by in an instant.
Having confirmed that the robots passed inspection without issues, Chen Xu officially began production.
The production line he established had a maximum daily output of fifty units. However, they couldn’t start at full capacity–initially, the production was ten units per day.
Each robot, after coming off the production line, had to undergo two days of inspection to ensure they met standards before they could be dispatched to execute tasks.
As the robots were continuously produced from the workshop and distributed to various positions, the operation of the base became even smoother. Moreover, there was spare capacity to expand outward once again.
The direction of expansion was a mine located dozens of kilometers away.
This iron mine did not have particularly high reserves, but it harbored a variety of metal ore deposits that could be used to manufacture a range of alloys. This was very important for Chen Xu’s next plan.
Before he knew it, another month had passed.
“Mr. Chen, we’ve found a suspected entrance to a settlement of the indigenous population,” someone reported.
Upon receiving the notification, Chen Xu immediately rushed to the control center and was greeted with this news, which pleased him greatly. Over the past month, he had sent out several batches of robots, and finally, there was good news.
He asked, “Where is it?”
Soon, a photo of a hidden cave appeared on the screen, along with coordinates.
From its location, it was right in the middle of those mountains.
The first signs of possible human activity were in those mountains. Chen Xu had sent several batches of robots to search the mountainous region.
Persistence pays off, and at last, there was a discovery.
This cave entrance was very secretive, located in a valley and concealed by tall trees, no wonder it wasn’t captured when the landing craft descended.
“Just monitor it for now, don’t startle the snake,” he said.
Even though he was very curious about what was inside the cave, with the base’s current strength, it wasn’t yet time to strike.
Leaving the control center, Chen Xu went to the biological laboratory, which was the place he had visited most frequently over the past month. He had a premonition that this parasite would be the biggest enemy on this planet. He wanted to know its weaknesses so he could target it effectively in the future.
Feng Song made significant progress every day in his research on the parasite. According to him, he could write more than ten heavyweight papers, the kind that could win the highest award in biology.
Chen Xu was not particularly interested in that. He was more eager to know about any other abilities it might have and to assess how much of a threat it posed to the base.
After routinely questioning Feng Song, Chen Xu asked, “Has the bio-brain implant been installed in the clone of the indigenous individual?”
Feng Song replied, “It has been successfully installed.”
“Good, activate him. I have a task for him.”
Feng Song led him deeper inside, to a transparent cabinet where a human body lay–it was the clone of the indigenous human they had created.
The cloning technology here was quite mature, but unfortunately, the memories of the original body could not be cloned. He was essentially a bio-engineered human with the body of an indigenous person.
Chen Xu had instructed Feng Song to implant a bio-brain in his brain.
The civilization Chen Xu came from had already unlocked the technology of biological computers. However, it wasn’t mature yet; it could only store images and sounds and was incapable of reading them. The side effects were severe; in the worst case, they could cause death. He wouldn’t dare implant such a device in his own brain.
After Feng Song operated the controls for a while, the cabinet opened automatically, and the clone opened his eyes, sat up, and stepped out.
“Mr. Chen,” he saluted.
Chen Xu said, “I have a mission for you. Infiltrate the indigenous area and gather all the intelligence you can. Remember, don’t get killed there; make sure to bring back the bio-brain in your head.”
The clone responded seriously, “Yes, Mr. Chen.”
Chen Xu told him to change back into his original clothes and then had someone take him to the cave.
This plan had been devised a long time ago; now that the cave had been found, it was time to officially begin the operation.
Actually, he didn’t have much hope for its success. After all, the clone didn’t understand the language of the planet’s indigenous people, and even if he managed to infiltrate, he would probably be unable to move forward. If he encountered someone who knew him, he would be exposed in minutes.
Nevertheless, even if it failed, it didn’t matter; it was just the loss of one clone, which was inconsequential.
