Chapter 282 - Chapter 282 282 Captured Alive
Chapter 282: 282 Captured Alive Chapter 282: 282 Captured Alive Luo Xiyun watched Chen Xu’s smile and truly felt an urge to punch him, but she simply ignored him, stood up, and walked toward the neighboring gym.
Chen Xu casually set the badminton racket aside and followed her, and just as she picked a treadmill and was about to speak, he caught a glimpse of a red light illuminating on the opposite wall, his gaze hardened, and he said, “Don’t run for too long, adapt first. I just remembered some matters I need to take care of.” Having said that, he turned and left.
Luo Xiyun had already started jogging slowly until he left the gym; after a dozen seconds, she then turned her head towards the door.
Just now, he had said he would play badminton with her, but now he suddenly mentioned he had matters to attend to, it definitely was something very urgent.
After a while, she redirected her gaze back and increased the speed of the treadmill slightly.
……
Chen Xu arrived at the nearby control center and asked, “What happened?”
The duty personal were Zheng Niu and Zheng Yang, Zheng Niu stood up and said, “Ten kilometers away from the base, a suspicious creature was spotted approaching the base.”
Chen Xu walked to his station and said, “Transfer the image here.”
He had once ordered that when he was with Luo Xiyun, unless it was an urgent situation beyond their handling, they shouldn’t disturb him.
Just now in the gym, seeing that illuminated red light was a signal sent by Zheng Niu, indicating that an urgent issue had occurred that required his personal attention.
A screen in front of Chen Xu immediately displayed an image from an aerial perspective; it was a long highway on the ground.
“To be wealthy, build roads first.” After initiating the production line of high-intensity silicon molecular material, the output was so large that there was more than the base could use, so he straightforwardly used it to build roads. Up to now, the total length was already several hundred kilometers.
On the grassland, such a road was unusually conspicuous.
From the aerial view, not a single animal was visible in the shot; rarely do animals dare to approach the vicinity of the base, and in reality, there weren’t many animals living on the grassland to begin with.
For the first few seconds, everything appeared normal. Suddenly, at the edge of the road, a black dot appeared and then disappeared instantly.
Shortly after, it returned to when the black dot had first appeared, and the image zoomed in. Finally, it became clear, it was the head of a creature, devoid of hair and covered with something resembling scales. Its eyes were large, giving it a somewhat fly-like compound appearance.
Just by looking at its features, one could tell it was certainly no benign creature.
Beside it, a set of data was listed, its head was forty-three centimeters high and thirty-seven centimeters wide. Much larger than humans, which suggested its body size wouldn’t be much smaller either.
“No wonder we couldn’t find it then; it turns out it can burrow.”
The first moment Chen Xu saw it, he guessed that it was the same shadow that had attacked the farm the other days, even if not that exact one, it certainly was from the same species.
“It attacked my farm and now it wants to strike the camp? I’ll send it a substantial gift.”
Chen Xu began issuing orders for combat robots to deploy and secure several directions, only waiting for the creature to show itself so they could act. The only principle was not to let it escape, try capturing it alive if possible, but if not, shoot to kill.
He had always placed great importance on the security of the base, incorporating several dozen kilometers around it into his surveillance area. To resolve communication issues, he spared no material resources and set up many communication bases.
After concluding his arrangements, Chen Xu sat there waiting.
This wait lasted over an hour, and the creature still had not shown itself.
He looked at the time; it was already past 5 pm, gently tapping the armrest, suddenly he stopped, said, “This is now in your hands, I’m heading back. Notify me if you capture or kill it.”
……
Chen Xu returned to the residential area and saw Luo Xiyun washing vegetables in the kitchen, then he walked in, saying, “Let me do that.”
Luo Xiyun glanced at him but said nothing nor did she move away, she just stood there helping him.
Together, they prepared a meal.
In reality, both were quite busy with work and never had, like now, cooked together–which felt exceptionally warm and cozy.
After cooking, the two naturally sat down together to eat.
Throughout the process, no one spoke; neither wanted to break such an atmosphere.
After finishing the meal, they cleaned up together, and after everything was tidy, Luo Xiyun went back to her room without a word.
Chen Xu looked at her room door and slightly smiled.
She had been out of character today, probably guessing something; although she had said nothing, her choosing to cook and eat with him was, in itself, a silent form of support.
Chen Xu knew she still needed time.
He stood for a while, then left the hall.
Not long after, Chen Xu returned to the control center, the duty personnel were still Zheng Niu and Zheng Yang, he asked, “How is the situation?”
Zheng Niu said, “The unknown creature appeared thirty minutes ago. We have already killed it, and its body has been transported to the biological laboratory for dissection. However, we lost an assault robot.”
“What?”
Chen Xu was somewhat astonished. He wasn’t surprised that they could kill the unknown creature — if it didn’t show itself, well and good, but once it appeared, death was inevitable. The base’s defense system was no joke. But he hadn’t expected the loss of a robot.
Assault robots are specially designed for combat, with thick armor and intense firepower, suitable for frontal assaults.
Did that unknown creature really possess such strength?
He sat down at his station and said, “Bring up the video of the fight.”
Soon, the video appeared on the screen. Two kilometers outside the base’s perimeter wall, a black head emerged from the soil. In an instant, an unmanned drone attacked, launching a red tracking missile at it.
It was extremely vigilant and immediately retracted its head.
Less than half a second later, the red tracking missile burrowed into the soil, pausing briefly before exploding fiercely, creating a deep crater. A huge dark shadow was thrown into the air.
Chen Xu finally got a clear view of the shadow. Its form was similar to that of a human, with two arms and two legs, and proportions similar, only much larger, standing over three meters tall and covered with a layer of black scales.
In the recent explosion, it had lost half an arm, and it seemed heavily injured.
Following that, an assault robot arrived, firing a net that enveloped it.
This was no ordinary net–it was made from high-tensile material and could deliver a strong electric shock, specifically designed to capture large animals.
Watching this, Chen Xu was somewhat puzzled. It seemed seriously injured and caught in the electrified net, presumably incapacitated.
Then, suddenly, a thin dark shadow flashed by. The robot was covered with a black viscous liquid, which quickly seeped into the robot’s internals through the gaps.
A few seconds later, the light in the robot’s eyes dimmed, and it became motionless.
“What happened?”
He was taken aback, rewound the video a few seconds, and using slow motion, finally saw clearly. The dark creature’s black scales moved, and from where its fingers were, a finger-thick dark strand shot through the mesh and out.
As the black scales receded, they revealed the creature’s true form–it was actually a human.
Chen Xu was dumbstruck, never having expected that the original form of this black monster was a human.
The frame froze on that person. He was male, unclothed, about 180 centimeters tall, with black hair. His facial features were not much different from theirs, the only immovable part being his pupils, which were somewhat cat-like.
At that moment, his entire body was twitching, his facial features distorted, and parts of his skin were turning charred black.
He was being electrocuted.
Chen Xu suppressed the shock in his heart and continued watching. After the robot was destroyed, a while later, the viscous substance emerged again and then, a cannonball fell from the sky, exploding on impact and sending up a vast cloud of white mist.
When the mist cleared, the frozen black viscous liquid took on a strange elongated shape, snapped into several pieces.
Clearly, it had tried to escape but was instantly frozen into an ice block and broke upon falling from mid-air.
With that, the battle concluded.
Throughout the process, the tactics employed by the robot and the drone were faultless. Even if he had been in command, the outcome wouldn’t have been any better.
The robot’s destruction was purely an accident. Even the main system’s AI hadn’t predicted it had such an ability.
“Continue to strengthen surveillance.” After watching the video, Chen Xu said and left the control center.
He went directly to the biological laboratory and finally saw with his own eyes the frozen black viscous liquid. It was housed in a transparent box.
It was made of high-strength glass, bulletproof and sturdy enough.
Standing in front of the box, Chen Xu felt a chilling sense of danger, a very immediate threat.
Beside it was a smaller box containing the human’s body. Chen Xu could tell at a glance that he was thoroughly dead.
On the other side, Feng Song was at a lab table, looking through a microscope. Two assistants were fiddling with some equipment nearby, not noticing his arrival.
Chen Xu walked over and asked, “How is it going?”
“Mr. Chen,” Feng Song stood up, his face filled with amazement, “It’s incredible, truly an unbelievable creature. Its cell structure continuously changes, meaning it can freely transform between different forms.”
Chen Xu had already deduced this from the video. The creature had covered the human forming scales that, when hit directly by a shell, only lost an arm, proving to be harder than metal and capable of transforming into a viscous substance. Truly remarkable.
“Does that mean it’s still alive?”
“Yes,” Feng Song replied, “its cells are still active. I cut a piece of tissue from it and after thawing, it came back to life and displayed various remarkable properties.”
Chen Xu patted his shoulder and said, “Keep researching; I will assign you a few more assistants.”
