Chapter 271: 271 Aren’t you the same? (asking for monthly pass votes) Chapter 271: 271 Aren’t you the same? (asking for monthly pass votes) The first exploration team was eight hundred kilometers away in a straight line from Chen Xu, with several mountains in between, a primitive forest, and a river to cross.
He felt that the person responsible for choosing the landing site must have had a hole in their brain. With such a distance, rescuing people was a major hassle.
Fortunately, the transport vehicle he was driving was multifunctional and could adapt to various extreme environments, with deserts and glaciers posing no issue. Moreover, it was amphibious, so crossing rivers was not a problem. If necessary, it could even perform short-distance flights.
On the relatively flat grasslands, the vehicle moved quickly, and he completed this stretch in less than half a day. Once he approached the forest, he had to find a detour.
He had a complete map of the surroundings at hand, which was taken by the lander’s high-definition camera during the landing.
Driving such a large vehicle, he had no intention of going straight into the forest and had to take a detour.
The primitive forest was vast, and taking a detour would mean traveling several times the distance.
He advanced along the edge of the forest while observing the trees. The trunks were particularly massive, and the outer bark was tightly patterned, appearing as if wrapped in armor. The leaves were a pale red color and looked quite beautiful.
He also occasionally saw some animals, all of which would run away before he could get close.
“How do these animals survive?”
He was curious. In such intense radiation, it was miraculous enough that plants could survive, let alone animals, and not just a species or two. Just from what he had seen, there were already over a dozen different kinds.
If he hadn’t been in a rush to find Yang Jinxia and Bai Jinxuan, he definitely would have tried to catch a few for study.
“I wonder if there are intelligent life forms like humans on this planet.”
This thought crossed his mind, but he felt the possibility was rather slim. The photos taken by the lander showed no traces of human-like activity.
With such thoughts, he spent a day and a night to finally get around the forest.
He didn’t travel far before reaching the riverbank.
One must admit, the ecological environment of this planet was too similar to Earth’s. If it weren’t for the severe radiation, it could totally serve as a second home for humanity.
Chen Xu stopped the vehicle and took a look. The current was rather swift, obscuring the view of the riverbed.
After some thought, he didn’t dare to drive the vehicle directly into the water. If there were giant water monsters lurking below, it would be a surefire path to death.
The planet had its quirks, and he preferred not to take the risk. Instead, he activated the flight feature, and with flames jets propelling from the bottom of the massive transport vehicle, it slowly rose into the air.
Only when it reached a height of over twenty meters did it gradually fly over to the opposite bank.
The speed of the vehicle in flight was not fast. After all, it was not an aircraft; this feature was meant to overcome obstacles that were difficult to traverse, like cliffs and gorges.
After reaching the other side, the transport vehicle landed and continued to drive forward.
Soon, he arrived at the foot of the mountains.
According to the map, the mountain range was long, stretching for thousands of kilometers. Detouring was impossible, so he had to drive straight up, which was going to be the most difficult part of the journey.
In fact, these mountains were part of that very same forest.
Everything else was manageable, but the most troublesome part was the dense growth of trees. To get the vehicle through, he would have to cut down the trees that were in the way.
“Well then, let’s get started.”
Chen Xu sat in the cockpit and drove up to a tree before stopping. He pressed a button, and two giant shears extended from the bottom of the vehicle and slowly closed in.
Through the screen, he could see the tree, as thick as a bowl, clamped by the two shears. The blade edge cut into the trunk, bit by bit, until the tree trembled and was severed altogether, falling backward. It knocked down many branches and leaves around it, kicking up a cloud of dust.
“These trees are indeed very tough.”
He looked at the data displayed, somewhat astonished. This hardness nearly matched that of some special steel materials.
He didn’t think much of it and continued to move on to the next tree.
………..
While Chen Xu was strenuously cutting trees, elsewhere.
Next to the landing craft, a small campsite had already been established, and dozens of robots were bustling around its perimeter.
Inside the camp, in an area arranged like a living room, Yang Jinxia and Bai Jinxuan were sitting face to face, eating. The wall beside them displayed the time, twelve noon.
The food was quite abundant, with vegetables, meat, and also soup.
On another wall, several screens were showing the scene of robots working outside.
“A year and a half already.”
Suddenly, Bai Jinxuan spoke, showing quite a change from when she first arrived, her brows furrowed with a touch of melancholy. After speaking, she sighed.
Entering the dream world had been more grueling than she imagined. In the first few months, she could still manage not to initiate conversation with Yang Jinxia. But later, she couldn’t stand it. The immense feeling of loneliness was too wearing.
In fact, if it hadn’t been for Yang Jinxia’s presence, she probably wouldn’t have lasted even a month before choosing to exit the game.
As their communication increased, they became more familiar with one another, and their relationship began to subtly evolve.
Yang Jinxia took a sip of soup and said, “In reality, it’s been twelve hours; are you sure everything is fine on your end? It’s about twelve noon there now.”
She fell silent.
This was a major concern. Before entering the dream world, she had specifically told Fangfang that she would take a day off and would sleep in. But if she wasn’t awake by noon, Fangfang would surely be worried, and that would be troublesome.
As a celebrity, she rarely had time to herself. She was constantly followed, even when eating or sleeping. It would be impossible to be like Chen Xu, who could lie down for half a month at a time.
After a while, she said, “I’ll wait for him to come.”
Yang Jinxia smiled, “What, you don’t trust me?”
Bai Jinxuan didn’t answer, which was as good as an admission. In the past, her intuition was always incredibly accurate about who truly cared for her and who had ulterior motives. She could always sense it to some extent.
But when it came to Yang Jinxia, one moment she could feel an overwhelming malice, and the next, it turned into goodwill. Sometimes, it was a mix of both feelings.
If she hadn’t spent over a year with Yang Jinxia, who had acted normally in speech and deeds, she might have thought the other was schizophrenic.
Yet, deep down, she still felt some wariness towards this woman. Because she couldn’t see through her and didn’t know what she was really thinking.
Yang Jinxia set down her bowl and sighed softly, “I thought we had become friends.”
She countered, “Can a relationship like ours really lead to friendship?”
“I don’t quite understand,” she admitted.
Yang Jinxia looked at her, saying, “With your conditions, such a successful career, being a big star, men who like you could probably circle the Earth. Why did you set your sights on him? Knowing he has a girlfriend didn’t bother you in the least.”
Bai Jinxuan sat up straighter, looking her straight in the eye unflinchingly, “Aren’t you the same?”
For over a year, they had never discussed this matter, even tacitly avoiding all topics related to Chen Xu.
Just then, a screen hanging on the wall sounded an alarm, and the image switched to a huge vehicle speeding across the ground.
“It’s him!” Bai Jinxuan blurted out with surprise and delight on her face.
