Chapter 254 - Chapter 254 254 What about you
Chapter 254: 254 What about you? Chapter 254: 254 What about you? Chen Xu lowered his head to glance at the hand pressed against his chest and said, “Sorry.”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than his hand had caught the other’s wrist, with a twist and a pull he drew the two of them closer, his other hand striking like lightning at a certain spot between the opponent’s chest and abdomen.
“Ugh…”
Brother Jun’s body suddenly arched, his face rapidly filling with blood, a hoarse sound emanating from his throat.
Chen Xu steadied his body, slowly laying him down on the ground, and said, “Lie down for a bit, you’ll be fine soon.” Then he pushed the door open and walked in.
Behind him was Liu Yumeng, who hadn’t reacted yet. By the time she did, the seemingly robust Brother Jun was already down. Chen Xu came in, and she couldn’t help but take a step back in surprise.
She had heard her brother talk about Brother Jun’s background before; Brother Jun was retired from the military and skilled in martial arts, ordinary three or five people couldn’t get near him. Besides being Luo Zhenghai’s driver, he was actually also a bodyguard.
Yet, he was taken down by Chen Xu, who did not seem particularly tall or muscular.
She couldn’t help but think of that night at the bar when Chen Xu had taken care of several troublemakers with a few punches and kicks. Some annoyance swept over her; she should have warned Brother Jun just now.
After stepping back, she came to her senses; why should she be afraid of him? Puffing out her chest, she shouted angrily and somewhat shamefully, “What are you doing here? Get out now, or I’m calling the police.”
Hearing her threat, Chen Xu’s gaze turned a bit cold, “Move aside.”
“I won’t.” Liu Yumeng glared at him furiously, “I’m warning you, you’d better leave now, or you won’t escape the charge of breaking and entering.”
Chen Xu looked past her, Luo Xiyun was not there, she must be in her room. Otherwise, the driver wouldn’t have bothered stopping him.
Facing Liu Yumeng, he said, “I know you don’t like me. You should also be clear that I don’t like you either. You are Xiyun’s friend, and Liu Kun’s sister. For their sake, I am willing to overlook other matters. But if you get in the way of Xiyun and me, I will make you understand what regret means.”
“Hmph.”
Liu Yumeng sneered, “Who are you trying to scare? Don’t wait for later; let it happen now. I want to see how you’re going to make me regret.”
Chen Xu ignored her and walked toward Luo Xiyun’s room.
“Stop right there…” Liu Yumeng tried to block him, but in a blur, he was already gone. When she turned around, he was by the room door.
Her anger intensified, and she said, “I told you to get out, didn’t you hear? Fine, I’m calling the police now.” So saying, she took out her phone.
Chen Xu ignored her, speaking to Luo Xiyun inside the room, “Just now, when I was brushing my teeth, I saw the razor by the washbasin. That was the one you gave me last month. I left it at my rental place, it was you who brought it over for me, wasn’t it?”
“And your toothbrush, cup, towel, slippers…”
“We’ve only moved in a day, and everything is still marked with your presence. Yet, you’re not here. Whenever I think of this, my heart hurts…”
There was a click, and the door opened; Luo Xiyun stood at the threshold.
Liu Yumeng, holding her phone, saw that she really had opened the door and rushed over to grab her hand, “Xiyun, don’t listen to him. A man’s words are not to be trusted.”
Luo Xiyun asked, “For the last time, what do you intend to do about those two?”
Upon hearing her words, Liu Yumeng’s mouth gradually fell open, looking at her in shock.
Those two?
The amount of information implied in these words was overwhelming, so much so that she found it difficult to accept for a moment.
Following Luo Xiyun’s meaning, Chen Xu had someone else on the outside, and not just one person?
How dare he do such a thing?
What shocked her the most was, reading between the lines of Luo Xiyun’s words, it seemed that she would forgive him as long as he promised to draw a clear line with the other two women.
“Impossible, I must have misunderstood.”
She couldn’t believe it. Knowing Luo Xiyun the way she did, if something like that truly happened, she would definitely sever ties with this man, never to see him again.
Chen Xu’s breathing paused for a few seconds before he took the object and said in a voice that was not loud but exceptionally clear, “To me, they are the same as you. I won’t give up on any of you.”
Luo Xiyun’s face turned pale, her hand suddenly lifted and then stopped mid-air. She exhausted the last bit of strength in her chest and said, “Go, just go, I never want to see you again.”
With that, she closed the door again.
With a bang, a door separated him from her.
Chen Xu stood in front of the door for a while and finally said, “Take good care of yourself.” Then, he turned and left.
Outside, unbeknownst to him, it had begun to rain. He didn’t have an umbrella and simply walked into the rain.
The rain wasn’t heavy, gradually soaking his hair and clothes, making him feel cold and clammy, which was very uncomfortable.
He walked all the way to the entrance of the residential complex. As the door behind him slowly closed, he stood there, looking up at the falling droplets, feeling somewhat lost.
He didn’t know what he should do.
When he was shaken by Bai Jinxuan’s public confession and decided to accept her, it seemed that an ending like this had already been destined.
Perhaps it was even earlier, when Yang Jinxia dragged him along, barely alive, through those three long months, that it was destined to create an irreconcilable conflict with Luo Xiyun.
Maybe he should have been like other men who would deceive if they could, and if not, then lie – lie until they got married, lie until they had children, until one day, even if the truth was exposed, she might choose to turn a blind eye. Or perhaps, deceive her for a lifetime.
But he couldn’t do that.
If he could have, he wouldn’t have ended up in the situation he was in today.
The icy rain kept pouring down on his face, chilling his heart through and through.
Suddenly, a black umbrella appeared in his line of sight. Turning his head, to his astonishment, there stood Yang Jinxia with the umbrella, “What… what are you doing here?”
Yang Jinxia was less than twenty centimeters away from him, with a gentle smile on her face, “I came to pick you up. You’re still not well, so you shouldn’t be running around.”
Remembering the cold smile on her face last night when the three of them met, and the scoff she gave before leaving, he said, “Aren’t you angry with me?”
“Being angry is one thing, but I wouldn’t just abandon you,” Yang Jinxia said, pulling a silk scarf seemingly out of nowhere and wiped the droplets off his face, “Come on, I’ll take you back to the hospital.”
Chen Xu didn’t move and said, “We had an agreement.”
“In this situation, is there still a need to adhere to the agreement?” Yang Jinxia countered.
Chen Xu knew she was right. How things had turned out, whether or not Yang Jinxia came to find him was no longer important.
He sighed and said, “I thought you would leave me too.”
Looking him in the eyes, Yang Jinxia said, “Do you think that my reaction is too mild, suspecting that I don’t really love you?”
“That’s right.”
Seeing her continue to that point, Chen Xu bluntly stated, “I can understand Xiyun’s reaction; if I were her, I would have been cut to the heart. But I truly cannot understand you. It seems as if you don’t take it seriously.”
Suddenly, Yang Jinxia closed the umbrella, and he realized that the rain had stopped without him noticing.
“When you were a child, did your parents ever hit you?” Yang Jinxia asked abruptly about an unrelated matter. Without waiting for his answer, she continued, “Generally speaking, parents love their own children, but most have hit their children at some point.”
“Human emotions are very complex and can sometimes be contradictory. The deeper you love someone, the more dissatisfied or even resentful you might feel towards them. It’s said that there’s a study which found that couples who have been married for a long time have all thought about strangling each other.”
“Why does it turn out like that? Couples who get married, even if not for love, at least don’t dislike each other.”
Chen Xu didn’t know how to respond, but thankfully, he didn’t need to.
“It’s because in the process of being together, negative emotions can lead astray, making them forget their original intentions.”
“Just like Xiyun, she loves you a lot, and knowing there’s another woman, she feels deeply hurt. Her feelings are then replaced by sadness and anger.”
Finally, Chen Xu couldn’t help but ask, “What about you?”
