Chapter 219 - Chapter 219 219 Victory Smile (Happy Dragon Boat Festival)
Chapter 219: 219 Victory Smile (Happy Dragon Boat Festival) Chapter 219: 219 Victory Smile (Happy Dragon Boat Festival) A few days later, Chen Xu finally saved up ten thousand credit points and said to Taichu, “Let’s go. Take me to experience the learning machine.”
Taichu’s voice rang out, “Are you sure? The maximum usage time for the learning machine is eight hours, with the last four hours being the most effective.”
“I’m certain. There’s a saying that goes, ‘Sharpening your axe will not delay the work of chopping wood.’ Right now, I’m earning money too slowly.” Chen Xu had already figured out what to do in the past few days.
To earn eighty thousand points would take at least twenty-some days. That was a very dangerous time frame, by which time the dream was about one-third of the way through and would typically undergo major changes, often accompanied by danger. It might even be impossible to use the learning machine by then.
So, better to reap the benefits first and not worry about the long-term for now.
Taichu said, “Alright, please board Transport Capsule number three. After arriving at the transfer station, switch to Transport Capsule zero.”
Chen Xu walked over to where the transport capsule was, swiped his card, and the capsule door opened. He stepped inside.
Inside the transport capsule, it was like a train carriage, only shorter, with thirty seats. He took the nearest one, pulled down the safety rail in front of him, and locked it in place.
Above the seat, the safety light turned on, and the capsule door slowly closed.
An announcement sounded, “The transport capsule is about to start. Please do not undo the safety rail.”
As the voice ended, the transport capsule slowly started moving, gaining speed, and Chen Xu felt a bit uncomfortable as the safety rail pressed against him.
Here, to move from one area to another, you had to ride one of these transport capsules. This was a mode of transportation that blended features of both an elevator and a subway. It could move up and down like an elevator and horizontally like a subway. Very convenient.
And it was fast, too. Chen Xu had asked Taichu, and during horizontal travel, it could reach top speeds of four to five hundred–a match for the high-speed rail.
Just from this speed, one could guess how large this place was. If this were the size of the refugee shelter from the second dream, such a high speed would have been unnecessary.
About three minutes later, the transport capsule slowly came to a halt, and the doors automatically opened.
Chen Xu unfastened the buckle, pushed up the safety rail, and stepped out, feeling a bit unsteady on his feet after each transport capsule ride.
“Is this the transfer station?”
After getting out, he saw a large space with seven or eight levels above. On the first level were several entrances to transport capsules, each entrance marked by a huge sign reading Line One, Line Two, Line Three…
“The zero Transport Capsule is on the top floor. You can get there by taking Elevator One,” Taichu’s voice came from nowhere in particular.
Chen Xu had gotten used to it. This guy was seemingly everywhere, even when he used the restroom, his voice might chime in next to him.
One could imagine, Taichu’s surveillance was omnipresent. Living here, there was no such thing as privacy.
He followed Taichu’s instructions, went to Elevator One, swiped his card, and reached the top floor, heading towards the entrance of Transport Capsule zero marked by a sign.
As he entered, he noticed that this capsule was very different from ones he had used before. The decor looked much more upscale, with only ten seats spaced further apart.
“Compared to the other transport capsules, this is practically VIP,” he remarked, taking a seat. The material of the seat was soft, and even the safety rail was flexible.
“The transport capsule is about to start. Destination, the Study Base. Please do not undo the safety rail.”
After the capsule started, the difference was stark. It was not at all uncomfortable; the comfort level was on a different scale.
A few minutes later, he arrived at his destination.
Chen Xu exited the transport capsule, and in the corridor ahead, a sign lit up indicating the Study Base.
“Just swipe your card to enter.” It was Taichu’s voice again.
Chen Xu took out his card, walked over, and swiped it. A prompt sounded, “Welcome to the Study Base, Third-level Maintenance Worker Chen Xu. Your learning eligibility has been verified, and the time allocated for this session is one hour. Credit points have been deducted from your account. Note that the learning machine is vital equipment; please follow the prompts when operating. Do not perform risky actions to avoid triggering the defense system.”
Chen Xu took note of the prompt and walked in.
The space inside wasn’t large, just about two to three hundred square meters, with nine pieces of equipment placed in the center, resembling opaque human cryo-pods like those in the second dream.
All around the walls were various signs, all emphasizing that the learning machine was a valuable property of humankind, not to be damaged.
“Please enter Learning Machine number one.” The previous voice spoke again.
He went to the machine marked with the number one, following the instructions, took off his coat and shoes, and lay down inside. A transparent face shield popped out from the side and covered his nose and mouth.
“Please relax your body.”
Chen Xu’s body, which had tensed up, started to relax.
With a whoosh, the lid above closed by itself.
“Learning is about to begin, lasting one hour. Please close your eyes and relax your whole body.”
He closed his eyes, and fell asleep a few seconds later.
After entering the Human Alliance Army’s camp, Yang Jinxia faced several robot attacks, and S01 along with another robot sustained some damage. Therefore, she changed her strategy and began to aggressively attack any robots they encountered.
These robots seemed to have lost their command system, each one fighting on its own. Though numerous, they were completely unable to stop Yang Jinxia and her group.
Having previous experience fighting exotic beasts, she led her twenty or so robots through the camp, pushing forward relentlessly. It took several days, but they made it to the heart of the base without a scratch.
When she used brute force to pry open the doors of the control center, she finally confirmed that the humans of this world had disappeared for some unknown reason.
All along the way, she hadn’t seen any signs of exotic beast invasions; all sorts of defense equipment were intact. Thus, she ruled out the possibility that they had been wiped out by exotic beasts.
“Could this be related to the same reason behind Chen Xu’s disappearance?”
Her face showed deep thought as she looked at the incredibly spacious control center, which was continually flashing red lights and activating various alarms.
“It seems the Human Alliance Army did have some integrity; they didn’t set up a self-destruct mechanism.” A captivating smile appeared on her face as she directed S01 to dismantle the energy room door of the control center and forcibly shut down the power.
The alarm abruptly stopped, and the entire control center plunged into darkness.
Then, the system automatically rebooted.
Yang Jinxia commanded another robot she called S02 to cut the backup power.
This time, the control center became completely silent.
She beckoned A01 over, “Take apart the chip room.”
She had about two dozen robots under her command, named according to their functions. S was for combat, A was for engineering, and there were those like 2003 for domestic purposes.
A01 extended several mechanical arms, quickly unscrewing the various screws from the chip room and pulling off the exterior panels to reveal the massive chip assembly inside.
She walked to the innermost part, inspected it, and lifted a panel to reveal several buttons. She mused aloud, “This must be the initialization button.”
As she spoke, she pressed one of the red buttons.
“You are initiating the main system of the control center. Do you wish to continue? Press the button again to confirm.”
Without hesitation, she pressed it once more.
“The main system is initializing, with progress at 0.01 percent.”
She waited patiently, and after an entire hour, the progress bar reached one hundred percent.
“System initialization complete.”
She called out, “2003, come here.”
2003 quickly arrived in front of her. She reached out, removed the shell from its head, pulled out a data cable, and connected it to a port on the control panel. She instructed it, “Transfer your data to the system.”
“Yes, Master.”
Yang Jinxia watched as the light in 2003’s eyes began to flicker, indicating it was uploading data. Her expression was quite serious; she had experimented with this in the shelter.
However, the mainframe here was much larger and more sophisticated than the shelter’s. Whether it would be successful, she was uncertain.
After several minutes, the flickering in its eyes came to a halt.
“Data upload successful.”
The control panel lights flashed on and off continuously.
What followed was a lengthy wait.
Just when she was about to give up, a voice rang out, “Master, 2003 is at your service.”
A victorious smile spread across her face.
