My Eldritch Horror Wife Followed Me To Another World -
Chapter 62: Lovebirds
Chapter 62: Lovebirds
Sosora and Malak were, as they had expected, not the first to arrive. Five others had already arrived before them.
Kai, Lora, Kavam, Mijko, and Tilo all turned to look at the blushing, awkward couple.
Nick’s, Mijko’s, and Lora’s eyes all shone with an excited light at the appearance of the two. They suddenly got the urge to tease the couple.
Lora didn’t know much about Sosora and Malak. She was just observant. She had gone through something similar with Kavam, after all. There was no way she would miss the flowers blooming in the air around the couple.
Mijko knew about Sosora’s and Malak’s friendship. She was a Gezercher, after all. She knew a lot about the goings-on of the forest, especially regarding one of the key figures of the recent events.
But the way the two arrived at the same time with rosy cheeks like that...That wasn’t a pair of friends. They might tell others and themselves that they were only friends for now. But just friends wouldn’t accidentally tag on ’for now’ at the end of that sentence.
Nick had seen Sosora flirt with Malak, and he had seen Malak blush and get all shy. But when he asked them about their relationship, when the tentacle told him about it being his wife, they had not been this close.
Sosora had used it to flirt with Malak while Malak had entered a daydreaming daze.
Right now, they were carrying everything they had in one arm each. Their free hands just so happened to be facing each other. He could also see their fingers twitch restlessly like they were looking for something they had just been holding.
Their relationship had reached the next level.
Nick was happy for them.
"Stop showing off, you little lovebirds. We’re still waiting for Muhso to bring the meat, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get started. I have a feeling we’ll need a lot of firewood," Nick said, helping out the two who had been locked in place by everyone’s stares. He couldn’t help teasing them, though.
Malak stiffened and his face cramped up awkwardly. He wasn’t sure what to do. There was no denying that he and Sosora had shared a moment just now. But calling them lovebirds? That...He didn’t mind it. But Sosora? He glanced at her.
"Firewood, you say? Alright. Let’s find some." Sosora dropped of their things, pulling Malak along. She then dragged him away to pilfer the forest for any firewood that had fallen on the ground. Since the monster kings wouldn’t like such a grand disturbance of the center of the forest, Sosora pulled Malak away from the center.
Fortunately, the center of the forest wasn’t that big. It wouldn’t take too long for them to go outside it and gather firewood.
It was better to be safe than sorry. She could say that after having a close encounter with the Roaring Boar.
It was definitely not because she wanted more time with Malak.
Back at Nick’s clearing, Mijko exchanged a knowing look with Nick.
"Those two..." She started saying.
"What about them?" Nick asked while expanding the fire pit. It would need to be a little bigger to accommodate the additional cooking utensils.
"Do you think they need any help?"
"It doesn’t look like it."
"I’m not so sure about that," Lora added, putting down a solid, wooden worktable not far from them. It was her family’s contribution to the party and a gift to Nick. It was a better workstation than the plastic foldable table he had. It was so robust that Nick didn’t have to worry about it falling, even if he tackled it with all his might.
A solid slab of wood on top of four trunks.
Nick looked at her.
"Why not?" To him, it seemed like Sosora and Malak were making steady progress. It wouldn’t take long for them to reach the stage where they flirted everywhere and anywhere, regardless of their surroundings and who was watching.
In theory, it was cute. In reality, it was annoying to watch.
"You saw how awkward they were. It’s obvious that they’ve made some progress. But they seemed too happy about it. Chances are, they’ll be content with the limbo they’re in now." Lora’s analysis was critical.
Nick was skeptical.
Mijko nodded.
"They know they’re special to each other. But it looks like they haven’t made it official yet. They haven’t taken that first proper step yet. If it continues like this, they’ll both be too scared to do it, and nothing will come of their current relationship." Mjiko shook her head. It was a shame, but that’s what it looked like.
Nick raised an eyebrow.
"I...think you two are being a little too pessimistic right now. Even if neither says anything, I don’t think they’ll just sit still and do nothing until it fizzles out or a misunderstanding tears them apart."
"Oh?" Lora stopped washing off the workbench and turned to Nick. She and Mijko crossed their arms and looked at him.
"What do you think is going to happen, then?" Lora asked, waiting for his wise and correct answer.
Nick looked between the two. Why had they suddenly sided against him?
He glanced at Kavam and Tilo, wondering if they maybe wanted to be a part of the conversation.
Kavam was busy counting leaves. Tilo was...nowhere to be seen. Nick sighed.
"Well...They’re both young, aren’t they?" He eventually said after a while, hinting at their youthful vigor. They wouldn’t be able to sit still even if they wanted to.
Lora’s and Mijko’s eyes widened as they realized what he was using subtext to say.
"You..." Lora wasn’t sure what to say. She knew from experience that Nick had a very good point. She blushed just thinking about how she and Kavam were.
Mijko narrowed her eyes. She didn’t have the same experience.
"Will they really do ’that’ without taking the next step?" She asked, her eyes full of doubts.
"What makes you think they’re not the same thing?" Nick retorted with a question of his own, blowing Mijko’s eyes wide open.
That’s right. At that point, there would be no doubts about their relationship.
"You have a point, but I’m not convinced. I’m betting that it’ll take at least a month—No, two weeks for them to make any progress."
"One week," Lora added.
Nick looked at the two before sighing.
"Then I have to say that we’ll see progress today." They didn’t leave him with much of a choice.
