Chapter 91: Save The Cat

"Then shall we sleep?"

Felix also took a bath following Asher and changed into comfortable clothes. After coming out, the duke asked Asher if he was ready as he went to shut off the lamp.

Asher nodded and the room soon went dark. Asher felt the rustling sound as the duke got on the bed, laid next to him.

In the dark, he couldn’t see the duke clearly.

But he kept staring that way till his eyes hurt.

Asher felt his cheeks hurt as he had been grinning like a fool.

What was wrong with him all of a sudden?

Maybe having a person that thinks of him as a ’friend’ for the first time made him extra excited.

He will always cherish these moments of happiness.

The sound of steady breathing in rhythm sounded next to him as Asher closed his eyes, falling asleep, feeling really really happy.

"Ugh!"

Felix woke up in the morning due to difficulty breathing. He felt heavy on his chest and when he woke up realising something was wrong with him, he couldn’t help but suddenly pause.

It was Asher whose head was resting on his chest.

Asher seemed to have somehow flipped around the bed, then ended up using Felix’s tough and firm chest as his pillow which must have been annoying.

Asher was sound asleep and Felix stared at that calm face for a few minutes before telling himself Asher looked very friendly and adorable.

Still, he could not just stare at his face for more as it was almost time for his usual routines.

So, he gently raised Asher from his neck, placing him in a proper position. Then as usual, he let him sleep as long as he wanted while he got ready to leave for work.

Felix had seen Asher sleep in his room before, but this must be the first time he slept there, them not doing ’that’. Felix let out a sigh as he recalled now the next month also coming and they would soon get their heats. It always manages to make him irritated that he will have to face that pain all over again. But, now Asher was also with him together, he felt he could purposefully become useful to him the same way Asher is to him. They must have been born to help each other, haven’t they?

"Sigh..."

Felix opened the door to leave but was startled when he was welcomed with a loud meow.

"Hello, Good morning."

Felix looked around to see if someone was there before half kneeling to lean closer to the cat and pet it. He gently talked to it, and got very long meows making him feel like the cat was answering his question and responding to him.

It’s adorable.

"You stay here with Asher. I am going to the office"

Felix said and walked past the cat, then turned back curiously and saw the cat entering his bedroom through the half opened door.

Little did he know this damn cat would end up causing a big ruckus later...

"Did you see the cat? Shit! It went inside the duke’s room. What are we going to do now?"

The kitchen maids had been feeding a black stray cat that had been coming everyday for food for months now. They often give it some leftovers or would sometimes treat it with meat that they save before cooking. They knew they would be in trouble if they were to get exposed for having a cat around in the kitchen. So they always tried their best to hide it from Mary, the head maid who would scold them for being irresponsible. What can they do? The cat knows how to charm and they can’t resist its cuteness and big blue eyes staring at them, meowing with the sweetest voice.

However, a maid named Nala did say that yesterday, their duke carried that same cat to Miss Anne during their tea time. That maid who said it to them was the one who had always been in charge of the tea times.

So it could be the truth she said she saw the cat with the duke and their young miss.

However, they hesitated to believe her this time because she had lied to them about a lot of things regarding the duke and their young miss, thinking she was giving away worthy gossip and wanting attention. So, they didn’t believe her this time. And, obviously, this time it didn’t even sound convincing.

How would their grumpy duke find the heart to even look at a cat let alone carrying or holding one?

So, yeah, they didn’t believe her.

They had just finished serving breakfast to the duke and the young miss so they were planning to feed the cat next. But today, the cat came late.

They didn’t think anything of it but they were left surprised as they watched the cat not finishing his plate and rushing off to somewhere. This had never happened before the months they had been feeding it. It always finishes its part, taking its time, never in a rush.

But that day, it behaved weirdly and the maids were curious so they followed it but only to see it entering the duke’s bedroom.

This made the maids terrified.

When the duke sees the cat in his room, will he kill it?

They couldn’t bear to see the cat they had been adoring all this time face such a fate.

So the young maids gathered to make a plan and immediately save the cat before the duke would come back to his bedroom for whatever the reason again.

There were four of them.

So they appointed each other with tasks.

One of them would watch to see if the duke would come out of his office.

One would stay in the hallway to get the message and warn the other two who would be entering the duke’s bedroom to catch the cat.

That’s the plan.

However, nothing went as planned, unfortunately.
