My Dear Duke(BL) -
Chapter 57: Confession
Chapter 57: Confession
Days and days passed by, everything was going just as before. Everyone engaged in their usual routines other than a few more twisted rumours adding up.
Like...
too extra at this point.
Nothing really made Asher feel anything. However, then he heard something interesting.
Maybe people were too bored that now they were talking about how the spreading of the rumour has caused arguments between the two lovers because Asher always looks grumpy for whatever the reason when he is around them.
Asher was laughing his ass off since hearing all this.
How can people be so creative?
However, these rumours seemed to be in a positive way. Like, the maids seemed excited about the duke having a lover. Asher could see the look of pity those maids were giving as he started hearing about him and the duke having a disagreement.
These maids seemed...sad for him?
Whatever!
Asher eventually just let go of finding things because it felt impossible.
And, when the duke gets to know these, he will do what needs to be done.
So, Asher ignored all those rumours and spent his time with Miss Anne who now had a habit of explaining all the bugs in her collection to him.
Even though he wasn’t really interested in the topic, he listened and praised her for her knowledge. It was indeed amazing that she knew a lot of things about those tiny creatures when the first thing he would do after seeing one is to close his eyes and run in the opposite direction as if it’s an enemy. He never bothered to look at how beautiful they are.
There was this Anne. Praising from its wing to the legs.
Truly phenomenal.
Asher felt Anne was specially close and clingy to him ever since she revealed her hobby to him. She randomly gets on his lap and falls asleep. Asher didn’t know where she got her habit but it was actually adorable how she cuddled up in his arms. The duke must have let her sleep like this.
It felt like he was raising his own child, not some noble young lady. She was affectionate and cute. So lovely...
"Asher."
While Asher was sitting still as Anne was leaning on him and had fallen asleep, he didn’t expect the duke to suddenly appear there. He was totally shocked and scared that the duke would get upset about how close he was.
But to his surprise, the duke immediately signed him to be silent and casually picked up Anne from him, placed her on the bed before leaving and asking Asher to follow him.
"Since when does she sleep during the daytime?"
The duke asked as they were both outside the room.
"Since not long ago duke..."
Anne didn’t sleep at daytime before. It was after this when she started to cuddle in his arms that she fell asleep anytime.
"Mm..."
The duke didn’t ask anything else and just mumbled, not very interested, however, then he turned to Asher not soon after as if he remembered something.
But he then just left.
’He is not mad, is he?’
...
’So she is indeed close to Asher. It’s good.’
Felix was going to meet Anne and talk with her about the magic academy.
But only to see Anne sleeping in Asher’s laps, clutching to his clothes like a baby.
At this point, she would make Asher her brother since Felix doesn’t really do much for her...
"Duke, we got a letter."
Felix heard Bill say and got the letter from him.
’From the royal palace?’
The familiar envelope but with the seal of the minister.
What is it this time?
Felix opened the envelope and pulled out the letter reading it attentively. As he read through, he slightly frowned and sat down to read it again.
’What does Count Xander have to say to me? Is he trying to mess with me?’
Felix thought as he placed the letter back on the table. The letter said Count Xander, who was one in that group of counts, had his last wish as to meet Felix and confess something important.
Usually, every prisoner’s last wish is to be granted as long as that isn’t harmful to others. So Felix should grant this wish. And since whatever that matter said to be important, Felix would still need to go and know. He was curious now.
What does he have to confess?
"Bill, send a letter back saying I will come and see him this evening."
It’s better to get it over soon. So he decided to do it that same day. And, after this, he definitely wouldn’t be attending the beheading event. He had never gone to any of them before either. He wouldn’t do any exception for this one too. So...he would say the last goodbye in this last meeting and be done forever.
At least that’s what he thought...
Only for this whole thing to become the beginning of the next series of chaos.
...
As Felix finally arrived at the palace, he was led to a prison investigating room and had to wait until the guards brought the count there. After coming, the count was left alone with Felix. The count sat in the only chair left around the table, facing Felix who was intently glaring down at him.
"I am sorry duke. I know an apology can’t do anything. But I sincerely want to apologise."
The count started by saying, still keeping his face down.
"They are just empty words. If you were really sorry, things would have changed long ago."
Felix said and watched the man raise his head with a sad expression on his face.
"I know...After today, you will start to hate me even more. But you need to know."
The count fidgeted his fingers, hesitating as each word left his mouth.
"Just tell me what you have to say."
Felix said in a calm tone. But then, he felt his heart thump when he heard what he had to confess.
"I know you don’t want to talk about that time...when you got kidnapped. But...there are some things you need to know."
The count said, scared if Felix would go mad and beat him up. He knew they did a lot of horrible things to this child. He never felt sorry because that was just one piece of everything he had done. He had done worse things.
However, he should let him know...
Before he dies he has to let this young man know...
"Duke, do you remember..."
Count continued confessing and Felix felt his heart thumping faster and faster, his throat going dry and his palms sweating.
Opened to a truth he never knew, he felt horrible.
The sick feeling wouldn’t go away.
Just as the count finished with an apology, Felix angrily stormed off back to the mansion.
’No...i-it can’t be...no...Why! Why?!!!’
Felix couldn’t help but feel tears well up in his eyes. He felt like he was back to that sick and horrible time of his childhood.
