Chapter 56: Lucas’s Visit

"Is that so?"

Asher finally went to meet Mary and asked her if she knew why a rumour like that started. She seemed to be quite upset when he asked about it. Maybe she thought he was suspecting her. However, she then said she had no idea, and also she said Bill also came to inquire about the same thing. So it meant...the duke definitely knows about this now.

Asher thought he should leave the duke to take care of this.

The rumour wasn’t really bothering him.

But there is a saying that a lie that goes around too much can convince people it’s true. It might somehow affect the duke’s reputation. And Asher wanted no part in it.

The rumour didn’t say Asher was a servant , instead they think Asher is someone from an upper class who disguised as a servant. And after what he heard, it seemed like Anne treating him well and keeping him closer also seemed to have sparked the rumour even more.

’But why would the duke even want to spy on the servants?’

Stupid people and their stupid stories...

"I knew it!"

Felix rubbed his forehead upon seeing Lucas laughing and cheering after Felix told him about the rumour going around.

Lucas came to pay him a regular visit and wanted an update of his life so Felix told him about the rumour.

And well, he was not even surprised by Lucas’s response. He always manages to annoy him in the end anyway.

"Daaamn! How could people know such secrets about the all mighty duke’s love affairs!"

Lucas said teasingly and shouted again.

"How dare they!"

Felix kicked Lucas lightly and argued back asking him to stop. Lucas stopped but kept laughing.

"I am sorry. It’s too funny. Haha! Spying?! Hey...what are you looking for? Did you send your lover to look if the servants are bad mouthing you?"

Lucas found humour in everything and talked non stop while Felix regretted even telling him. He should have just kept it in. But well, he always ends up telling him though.

"Okay! Let’s be serious. You are looking for the person who started this?"

Lucas suddenly changed his mood and asked.

Felix nodded to which Lucas also nodded in approvement.

"I should tell Karl you got a lover. I am sure he will be overjoyed."

"Will you stop? Don’t you dare tell him."

Felix grumbled and Lucas laughed again, having fun out of the situation.

"I can’t promise..."

Lucas gave a cunning smile and turned away. Felix rolled his eyes in annoyance as he knew this meant he would definitely do the opposite of what he asked.

"So what does your little lover say?"

"He is not my little lover. I haven’t talked to him about it yet but I am sure he already knows about the rumour."

"Damn! When did this start?"

"What?"

"Your love affair?"

"..."

"I am kidding. I mean the rumour."

"Don’t know. According to Bill, he says it went viral around the mansion after I and Asher left for North Archen. It spreaded during that time."

"I see. Take care of it yourself. I am just here to look after you. So how is your body? Are you having any problems?"

"No. It’s all fine."

"You always say it’s fine."

"I am really fine."

"...I don’t really trust you but I will let go of it this time. What about Anne now?"

"...She is doing fine."

"Does she know the counts are going to be beheaded next week?"

Lucas glanced at Felix and asked.

"I didn’t tell her. She might get to know later."

Felix answered.

"Mm...Right.. talking about Anne, don’t you think you should send her to the magic academy? She’s old enough now."

Lucas asked as he sat down, preparing for a long talk.

"I also thought about it. But I still didn’t ask her about it. I have to talk with her about that before applying there."

"Mmm...you should think about that too. She can improve her powers that way instead of just wasting it on unnecessary things..."

The two talked about putting Anne into the magic academy and their talk took long just talking about her.

"How is Karl?"

Felix asked Lucas.

"He is doing fine. That guy won’t die that easily."

When Lucas said, Felix chuckled and looked at Lucas with an amused look.

"It’s like you’re waiting for him to die."

Felix said and saw Lucas grin.

"Yeah. That bastard is a monster. Almost killed me in the bed yesterday."

"...?"

Felix had a questionable look and Lucas immediately waved his hand around to explain and ask Felix to stop overthinking.

"Don’t imagine anything. It’s not like that! That bastard cries like a baby always complaining the medicine is bitter. I had a big fight with him on the bed trying to pour it all into his mouth. He dared to kick me! Sheesh!"

Lucas said recalling the days his friend is the most annoying person to feed medicine.

"You should visit him sometimes. He whines sometimes about wanting to talk with you."

Lucas said again and Felix looked at him, with no expression on his face.

"Only if he doesn’t treat me like a kid."

Felix said, then took a deep breath.

"Come here, my son! I missed you!"

Both Felix and Lucas initiated the familiar words and the same expression at the same time, laughing at each other after passing a period of silence.

"He does it the exact same way every time. Dang! You’re getting good at making his expressions!"

Lucas hit Felix’s back and laughed as he said. It had always been like this when the three got together. Even though their other friend, Karl, wasn’t there with them, it always brings them joy just talking about him. In Felix’s lonely life so far, it had always been these two accompanying him at his every low point.

"I will go visit him soon. Anne loves it when I go to visit him because he gives me something to bring for her."

Felix said to which Lucas sat down and tidied himself up again.

"Of course he should."

"Yeah, he should."

"Sigh...I am sure he is already crying and looking for me. I should go and feed that baby."

Lucas said jokingly and got up to leave. They had spent a lot of time talking by that time and finally Lucas decided to leave since he might have their other piece waiting for him to come back.

"Come and visit him sometime. He also says he wants to come and see you. But he is busy too. And he is not feeling very well but enough to whimper the medicine is too bitter for his damn royal mouth. Fragile bastard, always annoy me."

Lucas rolled his eyes and complained again before saying goodbye to Felix.

’He always complains about him being clingy and spoiled. But never talk about how he still gives into his every so called whimper. Sigh...’

Felix watched Lucas’s figure slowly disappearing and walked back into the office room.

’I should ask Anne about the magic academy...’
