Chapter 191: Envious

Even though Karl was excited, even asked and given a chance, he ended up refusing and rejecting the offer to hold the baby, looking hesitant.

This surprised all of them since Karl wasn’t to hesitate to get his chance to spend time with the baby.

So, this made all of them stare at him with questioning looks which he noticed.

"She is so tiny. I am afraid she will slip through."

Karl said teasingly and just gently caressed the baby’s hair, not engaging anymore with the baby.

But the baby almost seemed offended by his lack of care.

Fussing again, the crying started again.

Karl took a step back immediately, pouting.

"I think she doesn’t like me much. Look! I just touched her and she started crying."

Karl complained and Lucas sighed, patting Karl’s back.

"She doesn’t hate you. She is just hungry. So, don’t worry."

Lucas said and left to bring the food for the baby.

Obviously, Karl would love to hold the baby.

Maybe...he could wait a little more.

He was never good with childr-

"Brother Karl, Can you pick me up? I want to see Bella."

Anne pleaded with Karl, hugging his leg.

Karl chuckled and picked her up, walking towards Felix and letting Anne take a closer look at her sister.

Then, Lucas came there with a baby bottle that seemed to be filled with milk. He handed it over to Asher. Felix, following the situation, gave the baby to Asher to feed.

Then, things were suddenly really calm.

The baby sucked on the milk and soon, fell asleep again.

"Place her back in the room. She wouldn’t wake up anytime soon. Asher can stay here and stretch his body."

Lucas told Felix who obeyed him and brought back the baby to the room, placing her on the wooden box, coming back as he left the door opened as Lucas instructed.

"Any major discomfort?"

Lucas sat next to Asher and asked in a calm manner.

"No. I am fine. It’s just the wound here."

Asher mumbled and gently touched his stomach.

"If something bothers and makes you curious, you can ask me anytime, okay?"

Lucas said and Asher nodded, making Lucas sigh and smile.

They got past the major event.

They all passed it.

Graciously...

Now it’s time to celebrate.

Right, again...babysit.

"She is so tiny. How am I going to play with her?"

The serious atmosphere soon shifted to a joyful one as Anne, who was sitting on Karl’s lap, tugged at Felix’s clothes and asked.

"Isn’t he going to grow up? She will be as big as you very soon."

Felix said and Anne pouted, looking upset.

"Well, till your sister grows up as big as you, you can play with me. Brother will wait with you till your sister grows up, okay?"

Karl said and Lucas couldn’t help but secretly chuckle as Karl seemed honest saying that.

Karl, indeed wished to wait till Bella grew up a little more before even holding her. In his head, he was not that responsible or careful enough to hold such a fragile being in his arms.

It’s best to not risk anything.

He can be patient.

Everyone then fell into their own thoughts, from while to while turning to each other to question the other.

Then they had breakfast which felt devine to Asher as he could remember, he hadn’t eaten for a whole day. He didn’t realise it and didn’t feel hungry but as the addictive taste of savoury dishes touched his tongue, he felt more refreshed.

Last night, neither did Felix have dinner.

He wasn’t really bothered by it.

So he just ate the breakfast like casual but feeling somewhat energetic as his stomach was satisfied.

Other than Anne who was very focused on food, others all observed Asher and offered him something from time to time.

Asher was flustered but thanked everyone as he accepted their generosity.

It’s such a nice breakfast.

And a nice way to start their day.

Then, as the day time approached, they again had lunch, then had discussions, spent time with the baby who woke up and got fed yet stayed wide awake with everyone’s attention.

Then, came the evening when they had tea and some sweets which was definitely Anne’s favourite time.

As the laughter grew and the house got louder with everyone’s cheerings, claps to excite the baby, Lucas, who was feeling somewhat pleased, realised he never felt this strange feeling while in his house before.

His house felt lively. Very different from before...

He liked his personal space.

He liked being alone, the silence. That’s right...

But...this was nice too.

Still, there was a limit.

Lucas was tired.

Last night’s sleep didn’t cut the exhaustion from yesterday’s surgery. And, he even cooked both breakfast and lunch. Then, cleaned. Even though Felix helped and Karl also somewhat helped by keeping Anne occupied.

Lucas needed a break.

It wasn’t unfair to get help, right?

So, who is going to cook tonight?"

Lucas suddenly asked, turning to Felix and Karl who looked at each other.

"What did you expect? I am not letting you stay here for free. Cooperate with house chores. Asher is obviously going to be free from those. And, I am feeling tired today."

Lucas said and Karl smirked at Lucas’s face.

"Honey, if you can eat anything, I mean anything, then you can rest assured. I will cook. And Felix will help me."

"If you mess up, I am going to feed it all to you. And, I am not honey."

"Then we all will have to starve. I mean...you guys. I won’t be."

Karl said arrogantly and Karl dragged him away, getting into an argument.

"...Bastard. I know you can cook."

Lucas complained.

"Yes I can."

"Then what’s your problem, cook for us today, will you?"

"I am not a maid. I need payment."

"I thought you were here to help."

"Yeah. But only Asher and Felix. Not you."

"...Bastard."

"When?"

"..."

"When?"

"Not today."

"Tomorrow?"

"..."

"I might be making your favourite pie too if I get some handsome payment."

"..."

"Mm?"

"...Ugh! Fine! Today. But only if the food is good."

"You know it’s going to be good. And, I will save space for my delicious night snack."

"..."

"I mean...payment. I am going to enjoy your generosity today. Thank you."

Karl said and walked back to the people waiting for them, smiling.

"Oh my! I really feel like cooking today. And don’t worry. I can indeed cook. I was just messing around."

Karl said and sat back on the couch as Lucas followed him with an annoyed expression.

’I did so much but I still have to pay back.’

Even though Lucas was pleased to know what they were going to be doing at night, he complained in secret, cunningly smiling.

He wouldn’t be greedy with this kind of a payment though...

"Brother Karl is cooking today?"

Anne asked and Karl easily answered her.

"Can I help?"

"Obviously yeah!"

Karl replied and Anne gigled.

"I will help you too. I couldn’t help Lucas much before either."

Felix said guiltily to which Lucas smiled, satisfied. At least Felix knew he should have helped... that’s enough for Lucas. But, he didn’t even hold any of them responsible to help around the house anyway. He just felt tired today. He will do all the things like usual from tomorrow.

But it’s nice when everyone shares the house chores. Since it’s basically a group here now.

Whatever...All are good.

House chores weren’t the biggest deal anyway.

They are just having a good time, happy and joyful.

So, that’s what matters now.

It’s nice.

Really nice.

Yet, Lucas couldn’t help but feel a little sad.

’I wonder when we can spend time together like this again. It’s fun. I had never felt so envious about living all alone...’
