Chapter 148: Didn’t Understand

"I am fine, Asher. You can stop now. Thank you."

After some time, Felix asked Asher to stop massaging as his hands must be hurting but Asher kept going, giving a gentle smile.

"No...Let me do it for some more time."

Asher said next, to which Felix didn’t say anything, just staring at Asher who was also looking down at him.

"Asher."

After a moment of silence the duke spoke up.

"Mm?"

Asher smiled seeing the duke looking at him with a gaze that seemed full of hope. What did he have to say? He looked shy too. Asher was curious.

"I know this is out of the blue. But I suddenly thought I should tell you."

The duke started, his tone now hesitant.

"What is it?"

When Asher asked, the duke broke eye contact, then nervously muttered before saying it.

"...I love you."

The duke said and Asher immediately smiled as he caressed the duke’s forehead very gently.

"...I’m sorry I made you sad, Asher."

The duke said with a shaky voice, seemingly really guilty.

After that, both Felix and Asher just stayed in silence, dazing off to each other’s own worlds.

They stayed like that for a very long time. Long meant indeed for a very long time.

When Asher finally left the room since he had to check on Miss Anne, the duke was now left alone. He asked Asher to come back soon and stayed inside the room, feeling really discouraged to even step out of the bed.

Felix closed his eyes while thinking but was startled when he heard a sound. It..seemed like it came from under the bed.

Felix was sure he heard that sound from under the bed.

Felix was too lazy to get off the bed so he just bent down to see what it was and was again startled when something hit his face.

"Aw!"

Felix covered his nose as he groaned in pain, then looked at the thing that just hit his face.

"Haa...Mr Lucky! What are you doing under the bed?"

Felix asked with a chuckle seeing the black cat walking around. Maybe thinking Felix was calling it since its name was said by him, the cat jumped on the bed, meowing as it then stepped onto Felix’s lap, sitting comfortably.

Felix rubbed its head and chin happily, suddenly quite excited.

"Were you here for a long time, Mr Lucky? Mm?"

Even though Felix knew the cat wouldn’t talk back, Felix still asked. He scratched its chin and watched as it closed its eyes and raised its head so Felix could scratch more.

’Cute.’

Felix, smiling, petted the cat. But then he suddenly paused, realising he was feeling quite energetic and even smiling with this puddle of another happiness being on his lap.

At least the cat could accompany him till Asher came back.

Felix waited for Asher to come back since he promised he would be back soon. But it did take some time so Felix just sat on the bed, petting the cat that now comfortably settled on his lap.

However, as minutes passed, the energetic sense or which Felix thought it to be, vanished as he started to feel sick again.

Felix felt a slight pain in his head but then, it got sharper and sharper within every second passed. Felix hugged his head, gasping as he didn’t want to make a sound. But... It really hurt.

He laid back down and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to make the pain go away. But, obviously, it didn’t work.

He curled up in the bed, hugging his head, groaning.

Even though he was in so much pain and felt like he would die...

Felix was sure...

’I am sure...I heard someone calling me.’

Felix couldn’t get up as he was in immense pain. He didn’t understand what was happening to him out of the blue like this. It was all horrible. He just...wants a break.

Thankfully, once the pain got really really unbearable, Felix felt it disappear almost immediately. His tensed body relaxed and he left a few sighs as he opened his teary eyes to see Mr Lucky sitting in front of his face, on the pillow.

"Agh...What was that headache? I think I should tell Luc-Ug!"

Felix told himself but it...happened again.

The pain.

The voice.

The words.

When it ended again, Felix was sweating, pale and trembling.

Felix literally had no idea what’s happening to him but he could hear the voice...almost like a child telling him something...

’It said it will end soon...’

Felix massaged his head, grunting as he felt his heart thump, worrying he would get another headache. He didn’t think he could bare ano-

’Ugh...No not again!’

It happened again.

While Felix hugged his head and groaned in pain, Mr Lucky, as if worried, sniffed him and then squeezed itself very close to Felix’s chest.

Since Felix was curled up, when he saw the cat stepping into the little space left in the middle, he immediately broke the curl as he thought he might end up squeezing that cat.

But then...Mr lucky just jumped on him, sitting on his shoulder and shoving its head in his neck, then licking his sweat.

Felix couldn’t help but chuckle through the pain seeing this. Isn’t this...amazing?

’Is Mr Lucky comforting me?’

Felix patted its back and laid on the bed, now finally feeling okay again yet helpless as he expected another headache to hit in.

’When Asher comes I will ask him to call Lucas again...’

Felix thought and closed his eyes, but then opened them again.

Then, he suddenly sprung up after a moment when he recalled how he had an important thing to do, almost throwing the cat yet managing to grab it by time.

"I am so sorry Mr Lucky! I-"

Felix, looking guilty, checked the cat if it was hurt by his careless actions. Then, just as he was talking to the cat, Asher came in, looking dumbfounded seeing the duke talking to the cat.

’So he...talks to the cat?’

Asher watched the duke pet the cat and thought as he already heard the duke apologise to the cat.

Asher smiled and went to sit next to the duke, then petted the cat along with him.

"When did Mr Lucky come in?"

Asher asked.

"...He did not."

"...?"

"I mean. I didn’t see him come in. He was under the bed."

The duke said and turned to the cat again. But only then did Asher notice something was wrong with the duke as he closely observed him.
