My Dear Duke(BL)
Chapter 138: True Master

Chapter 138: True Master

"Asher, if something like this ever happens again, please tell me, okay?"

Felix asked with a tired tone and as soon as he said so, Asher grabbed the duke’s hand, gently squeezing it and promising he would be more thoughtful from then on. He would definitely keep this one in his mind so if something serious like this happens again, no matter whatever it is, he would discuss it with the duke.

"I don’t blame you, you know that, right?"

While Asher held his hand and tried comforting him, Felix was suddenly taken back as he felt he might have sounded cold to Asher. He didn’t mean to sound or make Asher feel like he did something wrong but to make him feel like he should not deal with things alone. He wanted Asher to talk to him so Asher wouldn’t have to bear all the burden alone.

However, he already thought maybe Asher didn’t think this to be such a problem. Felix didn’t think Asher was wrong to think that way either since Nala had not done anything big after that, till this tea time where she dared to take out her frustration on Anne which made Felix pay attention to her and feel suspicious of her as her words against Asher that time concerned him.

"Yes duke. I know. Let’s...get past this one."

"Yeah..."

Felix agreed and leaned onto Asher, putting his head on Asher’s shoulder and closing his eyes for a moment. Asher let the duke stay like that till he could feel calm as he knew the duke must be worked up after listening to everything he said.

And, Felix was indeed quite stressed...

He was bothered by the fact he had no idea such a thing happened and someone talked like that to Asher.

It could be before him actually confessing and them getting together, but Asher was still important to him.

So how dare some random maid threaten him and get away without any consequences? Not just actions but words have consequences too.

Isn’t it ridiculous?!

Isn’t it ridiculous how that maid felt bold enough to throw such nasty insults at Asher?

And, it was also suspicious.

Like he said, Nala, a random maid, would not be like this. Felix had witnessed how other maids suddenly became friendlier when Asher was rumoured to be his lover. So, shouldn’t it be the case for her too? Then why did she become so against him all of a sudden and it was also regarding him being his lover?

What made her have the need to let Asher know he was not the best for him?

It was suspicious.

Felix’s assumption was either Nala, that maid herself had bad intentions toward Asher or she was under someone else who led her to threaten Asher like that.

Maybe...Anne knows the truth.

"Asher, can you call Bill and tell him to bring Anne here?"

Felix asked, his head still resting on Asher’s shoulder.

"I will bring her myself, no need to call Bill."

Asher said and caressed the duke’s hair to which the duke agreed.

"Mm..."

"Don’t think too much. We can do something about this."

"Mmm..."

Asher, trying to calm the duke and make him feel relaxed, kept caressing his hair and watched as the duke tilted his head to let him touch more. Asher sighed, then leaned down to kiss him on the head before leaving.

’I don’t want him to be sad like this...’

Asher felt bad but just like he thought...if tough times come, they will stay by each other’s side and go through whatever they are facing, together. That way, they can share the tiresome feelings between each other and ease the tension...

Asher sighed so many times thinking about the situation. It was indeed exhausting to even think about how far this will go now.

Will firing Nala end it all?

Maybe...there will be another Nala again to teach Asher ’his place.’

Asher thought to himself about many more possibilities these kinds of situations would occur again. It was not a pleasant feeling at all, obviously.

He definitely didn’t want anyone reminding him how he wasn’t the best for the duke.

Like he would care...or the duke would care.

Asher was convinced the duke was such a great man who didn’t care about people’s status. In the duke’s eyes, there are only two states one could belong to.

Good and kind hearted, then bad and selfish.

It’s such a blessing he got a good man like the duke.

Ashrr was more than happy to take care of this man, stand by his side and share his love.

That...was the best feeling.

The duke was the best thing that happened to him.

So, obviously, everything about him becomes the best feeling.

’It’s really upsetting when things like this happen.’

All this while, Aaher was settled on the assumption that Nala was just trying to bitch about status in envy or some hatred she had. But now he thinks about it, it indeed felt like she was trying to talk for someone else.

’At that time, she went as far as to say beautiful and kind hearted in such an admiring way.’

Asher thought maybe there was someone who liked the duke. She sent Nala to get rid of him so she could approach the duke. Nala had never spoken to Asher before. Other than a few words they exchanged, there was nothing remarkable they ever talked about.

And, since she only talked to him after the rumour got really loud, it kind of made sense too. And, the first thing she ever said to him also turned out to be about the duke and him.

All those little things made Asher’s assumption more believable.

’I should have thought more about it. She was really suspicious. Could it be...like I thought, there is someone behind her?’

Asher reasoned with himself as he had many guesses. He didn’t know what to believe so he just stuck to one belief and wished things would get solved fast.

"Miss Anne."

Asher knocked on Miss Anne’s room door And went inside to talk to her and go back to the duke with her.

Once they were on their way back though, Asher couldn’t help but steal a few glances at his little miss who kind of felt different.

She...

’Had she always looked that mature?’

There was something different about her.

Asher couldn’t figure it out.

After coming back and sitting down, the duke impatiently questioned her to which she grinned proudly.

"I think my father is really handsome so it’s normal you attract attention."

Anne said as Asher and Felix stared at her, puzzled, yet somewhat not.

"Just say it Anne."

Felix, getting even more impatient, rushed Anne who still didn’t budge.

"Brother Ash, did you think Nala was suspicious?"

Anne turned to Asher who was taken aback by that question which he, well, had an answer.

"Yeah."

Asher took a glance at the duke who was now looking at him before answering, then turning to Anne again.

"Mmm...so brother Ash also felt it."

Anne said and turned to Felix next, smiling before continuing again.

"Father, she is not loyal to us. She is working here, that’s right. But there is someone else that she treats as her true master."

"So do you know who that is?"

"Of course!"

"...Then say it."

Anne tilted her head, just smiling and not saying anything. When she finally opened her mouth to say something, she closed it again and left a big sigh.

"I don’t think you even know her, father."

Anne said, sounding disappointed as she stared at Felix who rolled his eyes.

"That’s okay. Just tell me who that is."

Felix forced her and she then shrugged her shoulders again, mumbling out a name Felix had indeed never heard.

"It’s Lady Shein."

"...Who?"

"See! I told you you don’t even know her."

"...Is she someone nearby here?"

"Mm...Well, you might know her if you hear her new name though."

"New name?"

"She is Ms Pearl."

Anne said and the silence that followed along felt so heavy to Asher.

It’s safe to say, Asher was shocked when he tried to put this woman in the assumption he thought.

’It’s a married woman?!’

Asher took a gulp and thought he must have guessed things wrong.

A married lady won’t have the need to try breaking apart the duke’s relationship.

Maybe, does this woman have a young daughter who likes the duke?

Was it like that?

How old is this Ms Pearl by the way?

Asher had a lot of questions.

While Asher was flooded with questions, on the other side, Felix was dumbfounded about why Ms Pearl was involved in this as he wondered how he ever came across her or why she had planted spies there.

Like...he didn’t even know her...

Felix, feeling annoyed and puzzled, caressed his forehead, trying to think why it was like this. And on the other side, Asher still couldn’t get over the shock he felt as he realised maybe, he over-thought about what could be the real purpose of Nala’s ’true master’ since a married woman wouldn’t want to do something like ’that’.

’So...it’s a married woman that’s...plotting behind Nala?!’

If it’s a married woman that was leading Nala, then she must have a different intention from what he thought, right?...right?

’...It better be...’
