Chapter 122: His Little Family
"F-father?"
The man, Nicole also asked, seemingly shocked to hear what Anne called this young man, finally showing a different expression other than his smile. He looked stunned and the smile had gone away, looking really relly shocked.
"Yes. She is my daughter."
"But I thought she was your sister you adopted."
"Is that what my aunt thinks?"
"....Yeah."
"Huh! Can’t you see how little she knows about me?"
"I am sorry. But...how can she be your daughter? Are you just trying to mess with people?"
"...I don’t have time to play. She is my daughter and that’s it. No one can question me. Sir, I respect you as a person. But please don’t bother me anymore. I will start despising you too. And...if you feel like it, tell my aunt I absolutely hate her for never caring about me and then pulling the family card just when she met me after years. That’s the most disgusting thing I would ever expect from that so-called family. I didn’t hate her before. But she pushed me to hate her. She is no longer my family. Remind her about it and tell her to leave me alone. Thank you."
Felix said, pulling the conversation into a dead end. The man sighed and walked away after saying goodbye. Felix was upset that he had to talk about those things here but seeing Anne shoving a cupcake into her mouth after causing chaos just seconds ago, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
How can she eat so much like this?
"I have taught you how to eat cleanly. Why are you making a mess?"
Felix wiped her mouth as icing was stuck in her lips and nose.
"I am a child. So it doesn’t matter. I can eat however I want."
"Don’t talk back to me. Get a plate and sit down and eat. Go."
Felix said as he shook her head gently, making Anne look at him and pout.
"Hmph! I was just telling the truth. So...can I eat more?"
"Hm hm. Only for today so...go."
"Thank you. Hehe."
Anne giggled as she walked back to the table again where Lucas was also roaming around.
Seeing them together Felix felt reassured and got another glass of wine to sip on and pass time.
Her aunt had not and most likely wouldn’t attend balls or parties because of an incident that happened. It said when she was young, she had kissed her friend’s fiance at a ball openly after she got drunk. Unlike other ladies, she wasn’t very elegant, and wasn’t very attractive and ladylike either. Because of that, she wasn’t that noticeable or popular. She was awkward around others with her lack of skills to attract attention. Because of those reasons, she wasn’t that close with people other than a few.
The lady whose fiance his aunt kissed was also one of the few people that cared about her. But she betrayed her trust in the most disgusting way. Being drunk wasn’t really an excuse. Since almost everyone there saw her kissing him on the dance stage, she had no way to defend herself. She lost a friend that day too. And, got labelled as a homewrecker even though nothing else happened and that was the first time something like that happened.
Ever since then, every time a ball comes up, she would be a topic for the ladies to discuss. Knowing she would be shunned, his aunt decided to stay under the covers since. She never attended any more parties even if she was to be invited.
That incident had happened maybe 30 years ago before she got married. But, she still hasn’t attended any balls so far. Even if it was with her husband, she never came. Her husband always attended the parties alone.
Felix was sure Nicole must already know about it. Even Felix, who was not even born when that happened, got to know it, so...
That’s one reason why Felix and she hadn’t even bumped into each other since those parties would be the only thing they would at least see each other.
When that day she came to see him, he was actually surprised and had no idea who that was until she started to introduce herself.
With time, people change so much. Since Felix couldn’t clearly remember the people from his childhood, he was stunned why she was there, after such a long time.
But then, he was angry when she talked like he owed it to her and needed to follow her instructions because she only wanted the best for her family. Since she was family, he was supposed to trust and do what she wanted.
Her tone really messed with him.
Because of that, the only chance he would have been respectful and understanding was immediately out of the door due to that attitude.
Technically, she was the only ’family’ he had left. His aunt and Nicole didn’t have any children either so basically, it was only her Felix could say he was very related to.
But he doesn’t want to have any relatives. He didn’t feel the need to.
He likes his lonely life now.
Well, it’s not really lonely.
He has Anne and Asher closest to him.
That’s enough.
It’s better to have a few people who truly care about you than having a lot of people that secretly don’t care but act like they care.
He only wants people he can trust around him.
Like Lucas and Karl, Anne and Asher.
They were enough for him...
He doesn’t want a big village.
The little village meant the world to him...
It’s his little family.
The little yet the biggest support and encouragement that kept him going, keeps him going and will keep him going...
He just loves this family so much.
Despite having problems with Anne, he cherishes her.
Despite having to feel small in front of Karl and Lucas, he respected them.
Despite always feeling insecure about himself around Asher, he wanted to be as close as he could with Asher.
He cherishes Anne.
He respects Karl.
He admires Lucas.
And...he loves Asher.
