My Curse? A Different Yandere in Every Reincarnation -
Chapter 95: Pale Master
Chapter 95: Pale Master
"Oh... what are all these things?" I wonder, as the mistress of the mansion said she wouldn’t give me food, so I came to the entrance of the mansion to see if I could find some little fruits, but I see all sorts of things.
Of course, I waited until morning, since at night there are the frightening vampires, but when I left the mansion and came here to the gate, I see all these things.
There’s food, furniture, cleaning supplies, clothes, and strange bottles with a red liquid it must be some kind of wine since the mistress of the mansion must be very wealthy, even though the mansion is in poor condition.
"..." I look back and see the pale mistress of the mansion. She’s using a small umbrella to protect herself from the sun and is wearing the same tight, elegant black dress as last night.
"...Yuki, these things are for the mansion... and you can eat the food, I don’t mind, just be careful with the red bottles, you can’t drink those, you need to put them in my room."
"O-Okay, mistress," I respond, trying to be polite. The mistress’s gaze at me is strange it’s as if she’s confused, looking at an enemy, but also at something harmless.
I notice she has a book in her hand. She can read that’s incredible. I wish I could read too, but mom and dad didn’t know how and didn’t have any books.
"What are you standing there for? Get moving," the pale mistress says coldly as she places a cloth under a tree and sits down, then starts reading the book.
I quickly start carrying the things inside the mansion, taking as much as I can manage with some urgency.
’She said I can eat... but I should take the things in first.’ I don’t want to get kicked out it’s dangerous out there.
"Mistress, where should I put the wine bottles?"
"Wine? Ah yes, you can put the ’wine’ in my room," she replies. I pick up some bottles and start running with them.
"Don’t run with glass bottles... you’ll hurt yourself," she says, and I stop running.
’Hurt me? Not break the bottles, but hurt myself... she’s kind... maybe she just doesn’t know how to express it.’
"Okay, mistress," I say, with less fear than before. Now it all makes sense she’s kind but doesn’t know how to express it, so it comes across as strange, but she’s concerned about me getting hurt.
After an hour of back and forth, I’ve managed to bring the lighter things inside the mansion, but there are still several pieces of furniture I can’t carry. I go to the mistress, who is reading a book.
She’s almost always reading books with strange symbols and pictures, so I deduce that she’s someone who loves reading.
"Mistress, I can’t carry the big furniture..." I say, fearing a scolding.
"It’s fine," she just says "it’s fine" coldly and ignores the rest. A smile appears on my face for not receiving a scolding. I go back inside the house and get some fruits for myself and the mistress.
I didn’t see her eating yesterday, so she must be hungry. I quickly reach her she seems comfortable reading the book under the shade of the tree. I noticed that among the things that came, there were many books.
"Mistress, have an apple," I offer the fruit to her. Without taking her eyes off the book, she accepts the fruit and takes a bite.
’What sharp teeth...’ I stare at her teeth she has two ’fangs’ that resemble a vampire’s, but there’s no way she’s a vampire just because she’s pale and has two pointed teeth.
After all, she doesn’t have red eyes and is out in the sunlight, and vampires can’t go out in the sunlight and have red eyes, as Mom told me.
She spits out the apple she had in her mouth and drops the fruit to the side, ignoring it as she continues reading.
’She doesn’t like apples?’ I guess she doesn’t like apples since she only took a bite and then discarded it.
"Mistress, have a pear," I offer another fruit to her while taking a bite of the apple it’s so sweet and juicy.
She silently accepts the pear without looking at me, and takes a bite, sinking her ’fangs’ into the pear, then spitting it out and discarding it next to the apple.
’She doesn’t like pears either?’ Now I only have a mango and another pear that are for me.
"Mistress, have a mango it’s sweet and ripe."
"I won’t eat a mango, it’ll make my book dirty. You can have it," she says without taking her eyes off the book. She seems to have a great interest in the book she’s reading. I wonder what it says.
I sit next to her and take another bite of the apple.
"Mistress, do you like to read?"
"..." She ignores me.
"Mistress, do you have a dream?" This time, she takes her eyes off the book.
"Annoying children are hunted by vampires," she says coldly, but I’m no longer afraid. I’m sure she’s just bad with words she let me stay here.
And even though she said she wouldn’t give me food and told me to hunt rats and insects, the next day she gave me food. I’m sure she’s good, she just doesn’t know how to express it.
"Mistress, I have a dream I want the world to be safer!" Without vampires, the world would be safer, but it would be great to coexist with them in peace.
"..."
"I... want to be immortal" she says, and I see a certain sadness in her gaze.
’She must not want to talk anymore.’ I just eat the fruit in silence. She definitely seems not to want to be bothered anymore if I say anything else, I might get in trouble.
After eating the apple, I start eating the mango, trying to make as little noise as possible. I notice that clouds are starting to cover the sky there’s probably going to be a storm.
"Mistress, let’s go inside... the furniture!" I quickly remember the furniture and look at her, but she’s disappeared. I look towards the mansion and see her walking inside, carrying some books.
’When... was I too distracted... she’s so fast.’ I’m impressed. I don’t know what to do with the furniture, so I just run into the mansion, holding the pear and leaving the furniture as it is.
’Maybe the mistress needs a different kind of food... I’ll cook for her.’ I went to the kitchen where I brought the food. There are many things, but I don’t know how to cook many dishes, since mom only taught me the basics.
I know how to grill fish, but it usually ends up burnt, so I’ll make a stew. Making a stew isn’t difficult just put water in a pot, add the pot to the fire, and throw in some seasoning, vegetables, and a bit of meat.
I grab a pot that came among the various things delivered and put a bit of water in a bucket. I lit the kitchen fire with wood, straw, and two stones it took a little while, but I managed it. While the water heats up, I start cutting some vegetables.
"Ah... oh no." I cut myself it’s not a very deep cut, but it’s bleeding quite a bit, staining the vegetables. I think about what to do there’s not much water here to wash the blood off. And I can’t go get more right now.
But I can’t throw away the vegetables in the trash my mom taught me that wasting food is wrong and a very ugly act.
’Well... mom said heated foods clean certain things... if it’s a stew, the mistress probably won’t mind... it’s just a little bit of blood.’
I try to convince myself of that, but I know I’m doing wrong. So after delivering the food, I’ll admit my mistake, and before she eats, I’ll tell her I accidentally dripped my blood into the food. I continue making the stew, being careful not to drip any more blood. The wound stings from the salt, but I ignore it.
After putting everything in the pot, I go take care of the injury I wipe it with a damp cloth and then wrap another cloth around my hand.
It takes me an hour to tend to the stew, and when it’s ready, I turn off the fire and put it on a plate. I carefully carry the tray through the dirty mansion and find the mistress reading a book in what seems to be a servant’s room. Outside, I see that it’s about to start raining.
"Mistress, I brought food..." I entered without knocking, which was impolite, even though the door was open. I should have announced myself.
I place the tray near the mistress and try to get her attention. It’s not raining yet, but it will start soon, and I wonder if the old mansion can withstand the heavy rain.
"Yuki, stop bringing me food, I don’t need it," she says coldly, cutting off my enthusiasm.
"Could you at least try it?" I remove the lid, and the smell makes her stop looking at the book.
"...Alright." She takes the stew with a spoon and tries it.
"It’s good... you hurt yourself, you should be more careful," she says, but she didn’t see my injury since I quickly hid my hands behind my back.
’S-She noticed that... I hurt myself.’ She must have sensed the different taste in the food.
"I’m sorry... there wasn’t much water, so some of the vegetables had a little bit of blood... I should have thrown them out..." I apologize, feeling guilty.
"It’s fine... it’s good like this" she says as she eats some more. I sigh in relief at least she’s eating.
’She’s so kind...’ It probably doesn’t even taste that good, but if she’s eating it, I’m happy.
