My Creation Came to Life on an Island in Another World -
Chapter 19: Time for a Break
Chapter 19: Time for a Break
"I see..."
I placed my hand gently on her head.
As I caressed her for a moment, I asked,
"Do you want to take a walk through the city?"
She simply muttered again, which seemed like agreement.
She stepped slightly away, and we began walking toward the castle exit.
As we walked through the hallways, I noticed she kept glancing at me, then at my hands.
Does she want to hold my hand?
I stopped, and she did the same. I asked out loud this time,
"Do you want to hold my hand?"
She reacted by clutching her stuffed bear tightly, head lowered.
Did I mess up?
Then, she slowly relaxed her arm and grabbed my hand, squeezing tightly.
I felt a numbness, but no pain.
Such a delicate hand, yet with so much strength...
Once the numbness faded and Shubniggurath eased her grip, I closed my hand around hers and we continued walking.
Nothing much happened along the way—we were already on the road leading to the castle gate.
This time, the gate wasn’t empty. From above, Twilight was guarding it.
Upon spotting us, he jumped down from the wall and landed in front of us with his artificial wings.
Kneeling, he said,
"Good evening, my Creator. Heading out tonight?"
"Yes... we’re spending some time in the city."
"I understand. I’ll open the gates right away. Do you need a vehicle, my Creator?"
"That won’t be necessary."
With those words, Twilight opened the massive black iron gate, which made a thunderous noise.
Did he really need to open the whole thing? And why didn’t I think of making a smaller door for casual exits?
Pushing aside those stray thoughts, we continued walking along the bridge.
The bridge had a railing that matched my height, so for a normal person, it’d be quite tall. The street itself was wide, and beneath the bridge was nothing but a void.
That void... the limbo still works here, huh. That’s dangerous. Once someone goes in, it’s nearly impossible to return because of time dilation.
Further ahead, there was another gate, smaller—around 300cm—with detailed carvings.
It opened on its own without anyone needing to do anything.
"Gurath, do you have any idea where we should go?" I asked while looking at her.
Shubniggurath didn’t answer at first. Seconds later, she replied.
"Maybe... the street stalls?..."
Street stalls, huh... maybe the prize ones? Gurath likes those, doesn’t she?
"Wanna go to the game stalls?"
She simply nodded.
Alright... we’ll need to walk a bit, then...
As we stepped through the gate, it closed behind us. Ahead, there wasn’t much—just guards. This area was off-limits to most.
Now finally on public streets, a crowd had gathered near the entrance.
...Seriously? Did the castle gate noise alert them?
Looking at the crowd, I spotted a few "cell phones."
...Cell phone, huh? So the civilization’s tech ended up blending in too. That part was from Alice’s project...
I dropped those thoughts and kept moving. It wasn’t the time to get stuck on that.
Still holding Shubniggurath’s hand, I looked at the crowd—various beings: elves, humans, demi-humans, and more.
Most of them matched the size of the New World’s population.
Why are only the beings I spent more time designing so big...? Did I mess up the model scales somewhere?
As they noticed we were passing, they cleared a path.
From the crowd, I heard:
"He’s huge," said a guy from the middle.
"Kya~, the Hunger Pillar’s so cute," I heard a woman say nearby.
Shubniggurath tightened her grip on my hand.
Is she afraid of crowds? I don’t remember that...
From a group of men beside us, I heard:
"They make a great couple."
"Right? Their compatibility must be super high."
"Man, I wonder if his pistol is proportional to his size... that’d be crazy."
"Shut up, idiot."
Hearing that bothered me, but I calmed down quickly.
That group... why are all guys like this? Even in my past life, I used to hear those kinds of conversations a lot... even if I didn’t enjoy them.
We continued forward as the crowd kept parting for us.
...
With the crowd thinning, I could finally observe the surroundings a bit. The buildings had a European style, but they didn’t look particularly old.
Looking around more, I realized something—
I think I know why she picked the stalls... I wouldn’t even fit inside most buildings...
Walking down the street, I only saw doors up to 210cm tall.
Out of all of us, Gurath is the shortest, standing at 200cm... Even she might struggle with the height in some places.
Of course, there were taller structures—like guild halls.
Speaking publicly for the first time, I asked,
"Gurath, what kind of stall do you think looks interesting?"
A lot of people around us paid attention to my voice.
That made me uncomfortable...
Shubniggurath replied.
"Maybe... the plushie ones...?"
Even though she spoke softly, it felt like everyone heard, and I started hearing people whispering again.
Seriously... can’t they just mind their business?
With the moon higher in the sky—maybe around 8 p.m.—we reached our destination.
It was lively, with couples and families walking together, carrying all sorts of prizes. Occasionally, you’d see someone alone, probably just here to enjoy the games.
The stalls were lined up in rows. No one was manning them directly, but there were lines of people waiting their turn.
Spotting an empty stall with a giant bunny plushie as a prize, I wondered—
Would she like that?
I pointed with my left hand—since my right was occupied—and asked,
"Wanna go to that one?"
Her eyes lit up briefly, then dimmed again. She said,
"Yes..."
...Why is our conversation so stiff? I guess that’s what happens when two introverts go on a date...
When we arrived at the stall, it was a basic dart-throwing target game.
The prize tiers were displayed on a digital screen on the table.
100 points: Giant Bunny
80 points: Giant Frog
60 points: Giant Bear
50 points: Any plushie (excluding the ones above)
25 points: Random plushie
Play?
Seeing the frog as a prize reminded me of something.
I completely forgot I added that...
Searching among the frog plushies, I spotted one that was a sad Pepo.
...Seriously, my past? A sad Pepo?
That version had a 5% chance of appearing whenever you selected the Giant Frog prize. Other stalls had hidden variants like that too.
After feeling mildly embarrassed, I focused back on the screen.
I tapped on "Play," my finger nearly covering the whole button.
I looked ridiculous—standing in front of a 200cm-tall stall, under a small awning. I must’ve looked like an adult inside a child’s playhouse.
The darts appeared on the table, and the screen changed to show scoring based on color hits.
Red (center): 25 points
Yellow: 10 points
Blue: 5 points
White: 1 point
Start?
Pressing start, the screen changed again.
0 Points
10 Darts
Letting go of Shubniggurath’s hand, she understood I was going to play and let go too.
Picking up a dart with my fingertips, a target popped up. I threw.
Hit a yellow zone. Target dropped, another rose.
This is harder than it looks... or maybe it’s my position?
Next throw was almost red.
I kept throwing until the darts ran out.
Final Score: 115 points
1 Red, 9 Yellow.
Not too bad...
Trying to hype myself up, but a wave of "not good enough" thoughts hit me.
Sighing, I thought,
I need to train my aim more...
Leaving that for another time, I asked Shubniggurath,
"Which prize do you want?"
She answered instantly,
"The white bunny with blue eyes..."
I clicked the prize on the screen—100 points vanished, leaving 15. A 100cm bunny plushie appeared, sitting on the table.
I held the plush with both hands and turned toward Shubniggurath.
She showed a slight smile—maybe the first emotion I’d seen from her in this world.
She dropped the bear she’d been holding. Before it hit the ground, it vanished.
She snatched the bunny from me and pulled it back.
Seems like she’s more excited than I thought...
Seeing her like that made me want to pat her head again.
I did—and noticed her face turned a bit red. Different from the indifference she had in the hallway. She buried her face in the plush.
She mumbled with her voice muffled,
"There are so many eyes on us..."
Looking around... yeah, there were.
...Sometimes I regret being the creator everyone follows.
Sighing, I pulled my hand away from her head and extended my palm.
Without needing words, she understood it was to hold hands again. We continued walking.
As we explored the rest of the stalls, they were mostly standard—target practice, claw machines, gachas, things you hit. Since this area focused on prizes, the games weren’t very diverse.
"Wanna go to the food stalls?"
Is that something people do on dates?
I answered myself.
...I don’t know. I never really went on dates. Never had the time either.
"Okay..." she replied softly, still half-buried in the bunny.
Does that plush smell good?
I asked myself that dumb question as we walked.
...
At the food stalls, there were unmanned ones and ones run by humanoid golems.
The difference was simple: speed vs taste.
The instant ones were fast—just a tap—but their flavor was always average and lukewarm.
The handmade ones were slower, but had little imperfections, always giving something unique.
Since we weren’t in a rush, we went for the handmade stalls.
She likes sweets... maybe ice cream? Crepes? Mochi? Paçoca? Donuts?
I looked at her. She was staring at something I hadn’t considered—fish-shaped.
Taiyaki, maybe?
"Do you want Taiyaki?" I asked softly, close to her.
"Mm-hm~," she murmured.
We walked up to the stall. Just like last time, I had to crouch a bit.
The golem looked tan, with brown eyes—couldn’t tell if it was male or female. They smiled, but the eyes were lifeless, and they cheerfully said,
"Welcome. What would you like?"
"What flavor, Gurath?"
"Chocolate," she replied instantly.
"Alright. Two chocolate Taiyaki."
The attendant scribbled on a note, "Got it. It’ll be ready in a second."
We stepped out from under the awning.
If I crouch like that any longer, I’m gonna have back pain...
In the back, I saw another golem—blond, lifeless green eyes, also androgynous.
They poured batter into four fish-shaped molds, dropped in chocolate chunks, then closed the molds.
Minutes passed. They opened the molds—done. Placed the Taiyaki on paper and handed them to us on a tray.
We took them, and the golem said,
"Thank you for your patronage. Please come again."
We left the stall, walking through the streets, looking for a place to sit.
I saw many normal benches, but I wasn’t looking for those.
Eventually, I found a tall ledge near a river, and we sat there.
I refuse to sit on a regular bench... it’d be terrible—even for Gurath...
Shubniggurath took the first bite. As she opened her mouth, I could see her sharp, shark-like teeth.
She probably has those double-layered teeth like a shark too—I made her model that way...
As she slowly ate her Taiyaki, I stared at mine, wondering—
How am I supposed to eat this? I have no tongue, no saliva... it’d stick to my teeth. I guess I just swallow it?
Sighing, I opened my mouth wide enough for it to fit, and swallowed.
No taste at all... that was dull...
I finished mine and watched her eat the rest of hers.
Couldn’t help but smile a bit, seeing this world so alive—something I always dreamed of.
She finished, made the wrapper vanish. As for mine? I ate it too, just out of spite.
Hugging the bunny again, she leaned slightly to the right, resting against me.
Seeing that, I asked,
"Did you have fun?"
"Yes..." she answered slowly.
I lifted my left arm—the one she was leaning against—and placed it over her shoulder.
We gazed at the view—moonlit river, occasional small boats drifting by.
So peaceful...
After a while, I asked, noticing her getting drowsy,
"Wanna go back to the castle?"
She yawned and nodded.
"Do you want me to carry you?"
She flinched a bit and answered,
"N-No..." but looked unusually restless afterward.
Yeah... she’s clearly lying...
I stood up and picked her up bridal-style.
She’s so light and small...
She hid her face behind the bunny and leaned a bit against my chest.
I started walking.
Among the crowd, I heard things like:
"So cute~"
"Dude, I wish I could be carried by him li—" forced coughing "I mean, how cool of him to carry her like that."
That sparked laughs and teasing.
"You okay, bro?"
"Since when are you like this?"
Ignoring them, I kept going.
Eventually, Shubniggurath fell asleep. I could see part of her sleeping face behind the bunny.
Hm... did she not sleep well these last three days?
Arriving at the ornate gate, it opened on its own. I crossed the bridge. The castle gate was closed.
Twilight descended again and knelt in front of me.
"Welcome back, my Creator. It seems Lady Shubniggurath is asleep. Shall I open the gate just a little, to reduce the noise?"
...Why didn’t he do that last time?
Sighing lightly, I said,
"Yeah."
He opened it just enough for us to pass—far quieter than last time.
Crossing into the castle,
Her room is two doors down from mine, right?
As I reached the stairs, I adjusted her in my arms and looked at her face before climbing up.
Looking at her sleep like that makes me wanna squeeze her a bit...
Climbing the stairs and arriving at her door,
A door carved with fish—I stepped inside.
Inside was a sea of plushies. In one corner, I even spotted the bear that vanished earlier—at least, I thought so.
I laid her down on the bed and removed her shoes. She was still hugging the white bunny.
Looking at her for a bit longer, I gave in to a small urge.
I kissed her forehead, then turned around.
Was that too much, kissing her without warning? But... it was hard to resist...
Sighing softly, my eyes landed on a plush shark.
That... she used to carry on the first day. And it’s the only memory she has of her family. I remember, in the project’s story, her family and I did that...
Feeling a bit down—writing a story that became reality—I felt guilty.
Alright, I should go... I still have things to do.
Looking at her one last time, I whispered,
"Good night, Nigura."
That was a nickname her family used to call her. I used to call her that a lot too... at least, before all this came to life...
Leaving those thoughts behind, I stepped out of her room.
